Maddog13407 Posted September 9, 2011 Share Posted September 9, 2011 several reasons. worn crank or sometime when someone puts the transmission back in they slam it in and knock the thrust washers loose if they are a little worn. just did the same thing to a 673. took the oil pan off to clean the gunk out and found all four washers in the pan. ordered them from Mack, put them back in and replaced pan. probably not good enough for a workin truck but good enough for a recreational driver. rhasler Posted September 9, 2011 Share Posted September 9, 2011 There should be a locating pin in the front and in the rear of the #4 main bearing cap that prevents the thrust washers from turning. Jocko Posted September 9, 2011 Author Share Posted September 9, 2011 thanks rhasler when i was under there i looked at all that and the pins were still good.i think something is wrong with the crankshaft because when i put the bearings back in, the front thrust bearings were loose and the back were tight.could it be that the crankshaft isn't spaced properly.
