Mack Letter Size

Recommended Posts

I have and use daily a 1969 R611T with a dump body, mostly for hauling the excavator. It has a mid 70's hood with the ridge from the top of the wheel opening running around the back of the fender. I have found what I believe to be the correct hood with no ridge and am looking for the chrome parts. My old hood has M A C K letters that are 5 1/2 wide by 3 1/8 high I believe a 69 should have letters smaller. I have found some 3 3/4 wide by 2 high. Are these correct for the year? Thanks

Would the 3 3/4x2 letters be correct for 69 because I have seen even smaller? Also the hood with the ridge following around the top of the wheel well around the back of the fender is wrong?Right? What is the difference between the early r hoods and the late r hoods? They look the same to mee except this odd one I have that is a middle years hood. Thanks again

the early hoods has a rolled fender opening lip witout the ridge going around the back of the fender. The real early hoods had parking lights in the front of the hood next to the headlights and the rest had them moved t the outside of the fender. When they moved them they also had a reflector mounted below them and that was done away with sometime in the early seventies. sone time in the mid seventies they went to a tie rod end hinge while the early ones had a piano type hinge. Also the flat back cab r models had the small letters.
