hello.

they look almoost the same on the outesite but i don`t know the difference in the numbers.

Hi Leon, I'm not absolutely positive but I think the 7220 series is double overdrive where you original is a single overdrive. Exterior dimensions are the same and it will fit your truck.

so i have to take them both appart to change that.

but first i have to look if the spare transmision is good.

i will take the covers of and see if i can find anything odd.

Hi Leon, if you have spring brakes I wouldn't swap over the brake drum parking brake. If you don't have spring parking brakes I would seriously look to install them. No particular reason other than they are much better at holding the truck anchored in position.

hey Rob.

my truck dosn`t have spring breakes.

the drum break holds the tracter well but i didn`t had a trailer on it yet.

i did buy a trailer that weights about 9000 kilo`s,

so i don`t know if the parking break can hold that weight.

so maybe i have to put sringbrakes on it.

Hi Leon, that is a very heavy trailer, about 19,900 pounds!! There are 454 grams in a pound so when the math is done, 9000,000 grams divided by 454 grams equals 19,823.79 pounds!! I would definately look into spring brakes for the tractor.

Lot's of meat there. Looks like a nice trailer.

The TRD720 and the TRD7220 are both double overdrive duplex transmissions.

The "0" after the 72 or 722 denotes that.

A TRD72 or TRD722 would be single overdrive (o.d. in the compound only).

The 720 had more o.d. in 5th gear than the 7220. The 720 is an older transmission, the 7220 a later model one, relatively speaking.

Regarding the spring brakes, it's not just a matter of holding the tractor stationary when parked, it's also a matter of being able to make an emergency stop if you lose all your air pressure suddenly. The little drum brake on the transmission is worthless in that scenario.

With a 7220 the top speed at 2100 will be a little slower due to slightly less overdrive in 5th gear.

I don't have the exact transmission ratios in front of me right now, or I could calculate an exact speed depending on your tire size and rear axle ratio.
