Something about that ROPS that looks a little...............big. Is everything bigger in Texas?

Looks home made to me. The only rops on Galion, and Champion graders around here were formed round tubes.

yeah Rob, you are correct, it still has the original umbrella holder on the side, the rops is homemade, and a pretty stout one at that, its about a late 68 or early 69 model with a 3-53 detroit, 3 speed forward and 1 reverse manual, all hydraulic except blade pitch is manual by loosening a couple of bolts. Im gonna give it a little restoration, I do a lot of driveway and farm road jobs and i liked it for its compact size, price, and old school look sitting behind killer B. I already knew my mileage down and back Rob, fueled before i left and when i got back refueled and Killer B got 7.8 MPG going down empty and returning loaded, it seemed a lil hard to believe, i checked and rechecked, but thats what it got, I thought that was pretty good for a naturally aspirated engine. LOL,,the guy in the pic with killer B's hood up is the guy I bought grader from and he was slobbering over truck so much he wouldnt move so I could get a decent picture. Few lil things and leaks to fix on grader but its pretty tight, will let you know how it goes,,later,,,Randy

Oh yeah Rob, forgot to mention, I swear by Power Service diesel fuel supplement "cetane Boost" and dont tell anybody but slong with that add a small amount of 2 cycle engine oil along with it,,,but am sure its environmentally friendly 2 cycle oil,,,randy

I too like the Power Service line of products. Use it quite frequently in fact. Our local oil distributor, (Mobil Products) and good customer of mine for many years custom blends fuel adding some type of cetane booster. I believe it is Siloo, or Schaefer brand. I also have one gallon of two cycle oil mixed in at the plant per 100 gallons to make up for the lacking of lubricity these older engines require. Not noticed any problem with too much smoking but old Mack, and Cat engines really put it out anyways.

Later this spring or early summer when I have my B67 back together, (I'm still healing) I'm going to start using it often as you do yours. A friend of mine wants me to have his 1968 Austin Western grader which is about the same size as yours with a full cab that needs reskinned. It also has a 3-53 and runs well. It is small and could be very useful around here.

Rob, I looked pretty hard at an austin western grader before I bought this one, kinda liked it, design and all, bout the same size as galion but it going to require a little more work, time, effort, and money to whip into shape, I think it was a 68 too. Im going to check the galion out pretty good in the morning, tandem oil levels and stuff like that, move it to a driveway job that all i like on it is just finish grading, then take it back to yard and start tinkering on it,,,needs gauges,,engine stop cable, couple of o-rings on valve bank,,just little stuff. I do know it is gonna cut my dozer track wear down considerably, I been finishing out farm roads and driveways and all with dozer and it adds too much time and wear,,nobody wants dozer cleat tracks in their roads so have to always backdrag my way out to get rid of them,,I think its really gonna simplify and speed things up a lot. I also may not be mixing enough 2 cycle oil, I dont mix near that much, was kinda depending on power service to boost lubricity a lil bit,,claims it does anyway. I been using a pint to 50 gallons,,think I ought to sweeten it up a bit more?,,,Randy
