Hello From Thunder Bay

Sandy

Recommended Posts

Have lurked on this site for a while now , and finally worked up the nerve to introduce myself. My nickname is Sandy and I am a 60 year old gearhead with a passion for all old machinery . The purchase of a 1981 Mack MR686S from a local scrapyard, a couple of years ago has pushed me to spend time here and have learned a lot from your many posters.

The truck is tandem axled and comes with an Edbo 17' hoist. I was able to drive the truck out of the scrapyard to the street after replacing the starter .

At the moment the truck is up on blocks in my shop. With good youthful help from a friend over the past month, we have rebushed the Hendrickson suspension , stripped the wheels for a complete brake job and now are replacing brake and air hoses and repairing wiring that had been "fixed" previously. The rad will need to come out for overhaul , the clutch needs adjusting or replacement . We are cleaning and painting under carriage as we go. Box and cab require paint , also .

Tires are all weather checked and rears are all 3 piece rims . Would like to upgrade from 1100x20 to 1100x22.5 on radial rims. Fronts are 445 275 x22.5 on good rims but tires are checked .

Will be needing wiring and air line schematics to finish . Any thoughts where to buy a good manual(s) ?

Look for a set of TS-442 series on ebay and the like. They show up from time to time and are quite helpful.

Welcome to the site.
