  1. If you have inside storage any of the antique car people will most likely be able to take care of you. Hagerty,Condon&Skelly,J C Taylor. Gulfway does not require inside storage and has no milage limits, their main requirement is no comerical use and don't think that would be a consideration with a Fire Truck. LOL
  2. Go to the liberiary and get a "Motor's or Chiltons" truck manual from 60s-early 70s will have the info you need. There was about 6-7 different gas engines, and none were V6 all inline.
  3. Donna : Gald to hear you got it going. Get ahold of a voltmeter and start at the generator at about 1200 RPM and see what voltage you get there should be around 12.8 to 13.8 depending on battery charge. But even before doing that with the engine off ,momentraly jump the Bat. and Gen.or Arm. terminals ofthe voltage regulator. That will polerize the generator and that may be all that is wrong. If you have the correct voltage at the Gen., then check at the Bat. terminal of the regulator. If good there check at the S/P switch terminal where the wire from the amp meter connects. If the Gen. is putting out these checks should tell you where your problem lies. As to the Gen. pull the cover band and make sure the brushes move freely in their holders. With the engine running take a piece of Shoch Brite and give the armature a cleaning. Sometimes you need to pull the regulator cover and clean the contacts in there Carefully!!!
  4. Ok first things first. The Speedo cable connectin will be on the bearing retainer housing, where the trans shaft comes out with the drive shaft yoke on it. Look for a short male thread that the end of the cable could screw onto, OR a hex plug inthat housing about 1 inch or so hex. If the cable has not ben connected for a long time things may be buried under grease etc. The connection may point up,down or tothe side. AND it may not have one ,remember what I said about the hex plug. Sometimes people did not order speedos or had aux. trans that would have it there, or front wheel driven. If the trans has been changed that may be the answer,no drive. You see the plug that means no driven gear and a good chance the drive gear onthe trans shaft has been replace with a spacer. Even if the connector is there it only sticks up about 3/4 inch and is a 7/8s thread so a gob of mung can hid it.
  5. Donna: The term "cranking " means the engine is rotating with the starter. Mistakes in termanology between people working at a distance causes no end of fun. "What you think I'm saying is not whay I'm saying " LOL Like David said pull the fuel line and blow through it to make sure it is clear , then lighty presurise the tank to force fuel to the injection pump. Give'r hell.
  6. First ? is the engine turning over? Also the S/P switch should NOT spark. You have a bad / loose conection? Also if you are not trying to crank over 30-35 seconds at a time it should NOT get hot. Next do you have enough battery capacity and are the batteries Good and fully charged. Low battery voltage causes the starter to draw more amprage than it's suspost to. Your started it'sself may have internal problems. Go to your nearest libiary and look in a "Motor's Truck" repair manual , they still showed the wiring for a S/P swithch untill the 80s books.
  7. AND while we are on this subject ALWAYScarry a spare fuel filter and a quart of ATF to prime it with.
  8. Yep you are 100% corect it ain't stock, there was a repower sometime. If I remember right the REO OHVs didn't come out untill the early 50s. Look around for a number stamped in a pad somewhere. ie OH 200 or simular.
  9. If it is a Bendix gov. the ports are labeled .
  10. Larry: With your B model with Mack engine & trans you most likely have a Mack PUSH style clutch which adjusts like a regular car clutch. Only the pull type clutchs do you rotate a ring in the presure plate.
  11. John Evans of Phoenix AZ. 30+ years HD truckparts man. Been collecting Class 7&8 trucks for 10 years now and dogs forever. Nowdays run escort for O/S loads to make a buck.
  12. Hey Bob do you want the rear parts with Spokes of Budd hubs? If Budd will work give me a call.
  13. Jim : Be sure you adjust the clutch presure plate it's self and not the linkage. Once the presure plate is right then and only then adjust the linkage.
