Lol! When my great grandaddy bought his 1st house that had indoor plumbing, the 1st thing he did was build an outhouse out back...because "You don't do 'that' in the house!"

Our great grandads think alike Rowdy. Recently on another thread I posted nearly the same thing. My great grandpa wouldn’t let them put a bathroom in the house when his kids dug a waterline in.

and speaking of that outhouse, the town wants it taken down because it is not sanitary. even though it has been in the current location since it was erected in 1882.

That might all be changing 😁. Suddenly in an apocalypse like environment having a wood box to sit on and do your business instead of a street or a sidewalk might be considered luxurious.

I look at the meat and pork in the local supermarkets and i then go over to the guy i know and pay half as much. Thirty years ago me and my friend bob plumbed his store so when i go in he will take care of me. I raise chickens and i trade eggs for stuff. I have some angora goats and my girlfriend spins the cape wool into clothing she does that instead of giving Christmas presents.

It truly makes me happy seeing people from all over the country that hasn’t lost the self reliance that made this country. It gets depressing on the occasion that I catch the news when over at friends place and it’s nothing but doom and gloom and social media crap. This thread is refreshing break from the norm for me.

I would love to know what the cost to acquire (raise, feed, vet, etc.) your protein compared to store bought.  Obviously there is a freshness component that you have that is superior to the store, but I have too many times heard that it is free when you have your own to slaughter.  Clearly it is not.  Would you estimate that your cost is 90% less than store?  75%? 50%?  Then too you have the factor that allows you to sell some which offsets cost, especially if you build some profit into your sale price after accounting for your time and labor to raise, feed, vet, slaughter etc.

It is probably a pipe dream at 43 years old, but I know enough to be dangerous at raising our own food.  My wife and I think often of what moving from our current life would be like.

You could raise your own food just do your home work (like you are) ask lots of questions and be fully prepared before bringing a critter home and having to learn on the fly while scrambling for supplies. I have a good deal going. I have a tractor, a friend has a hay pasture. I use my tractor to help put up hay, in return I get farm raised critters and part of the hay. The other part of the hay goes to feed out packing stock which carry out any where from 1-5 elk every year for us along with several deer. My wife and I never have to buy meat (and never have had to) from a store unless we feel like it. It’s kind of nice being somewhat independent. We cure our own meats, make our own sausage and vacuum seal and can our own meats and many of our vegetables. We cook quite often in my Dutch ovens on our patio over wood or coal because we enjoy the process. To me it’s important to be part of the process of getting food to my table directly. I love the animals and have great respect for the and taking their lives to feed my family is something that I’m grateful for.

  5. The increased rate also led Cuomo to project that the worst could hit in as little as two weeks.”

The rate has led experts to project an eventual peak demand of 140,000 hospital beds — up from the 110,000 that Cuomo had previously predicted.

Where is cuomo getting his facts? How does he know when the apex is hitting and how many it will affect or is he just hyping in what ifs and I feels?

  6. That’s awful. I imagine she was sent home because the hospital had no room but that’s just speculation. Even if that’s the case it’s still a tragedy in the making. Hopefully she makes a speedy recovery without spreading this. I had to pick a truck up from getting worked on at our shop last week. Mind you we’ve had multiple emails giving us precautions and some rules to go by and one of them is if you’re sick stay home. I arrive at the shop and went to talk to the shop foreman who has access to the keys for the truck I was picking up and from clear across the shop I could clearly see he was sick. Looked pale, mouth agape and lumbering slowly across the shop. I hollered are you sick? He replied yes but I could hardly hear him because his voice was nearly gone and then he started coughing. I got mad and asked why are you here if you’re sick?!  He simply stated they’d think I’d have the corona virus if I called in sick. I asked if he has the corona virus and he said no. I said oh good then you’ve been tested. He said no. I asked him how in the hell does he know if he has it or not if he hasn’t been tested? He had no answer and I promptly told him what a selfish, self centered act that is to possibly spread something in a pandemic because you might have to use some sick days. The company already said if we come into contact with corona or have reasonable suspicion we have it (the latter requires a dr note) they will pay is for 30 days to stay at home to ensure it does not spread at work. A-holes like that mechanic are part of the reason it’s so hard to control a spread like this. I sincerely doubt he has Coronavirus since we are isolated from everywhere out here in BFE but why chance it?

  7. There’s no internet police. Go reread your posts. Your panicking and lashing out which helps no one. Have some concerns on things going on in the world?  Bring them up in a logical, reasonable way and no one will have a problem with it. Take a deep breath, don’t panic. We all are going to have to ride this out together whether we get along or not and I prefer getting along and helping one another. Good luck.

Its odd to me that Mack is offering these heavy rear ends yet removed themselves from the big HP market. in most cases the heavier the GVWR of the truck the more HP is speced under the hood.

it like saying Mack has heavy rears to carry the load but we fall short in the HP to move it ( when compared to other MFG) not the idea way imo

Can you say neutered?  Probably offer the heavy rears to get a customer in the door.  Then when they find out they can’t spec what they want under the hood the sly salesman pitches them a Volvo.

  9. She’s a tough cookie!  Dr Redfield seemed irritated and looked bad by trying to give a politicians answer like he wanted to but she held his feet to the fire until she got a yes or no publicly from him. Good for her.

Why in the world would you ever describe anyone in a derogatory way on a public forum?

What is your deal? Since this corona virus stuff started you’ve been making lots of odd and rude posts on different threads. That bored that you feel the need to troll BMT? Find something productive to do. More than happy to hear someone else’s view on things but not when they go straight to name calling and flaming.

This isn't helping you in Connecticut but thought I might interject. In Pennsylvania there is no inspection for vehicles registered as an antique. Classic vehicles still require an annual inspection.

One thing of note in PA. Don't get caught by the pigs (a cop) hauling anything with a vehicle registered as an antique. This past fall heard about a homeowner who had an dump truck registered as an antique that got nailed for hauling his yard waste to a dump by (LEO) Barney Fife who was bucking for sergeant.

    Displayed what attitude?

I didn't mean a rolling codded up POS dumpy looking truck. I mean a nice 1969 Chevy C-30 Truck with a tilt dump body. The guy was using the truck to haul yard refuge.

Maybe by calling law officers pigs for starters.

Croatia is ahead of the game! All countries should do this.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Reuters  /  March 17, 2020

Croatia’s government proposed on Tuesday to postpone tax payments for at least three months and make loans available to struggling business in response to the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

“The goal of our economic measures is to save jobs and secure sufficient liquidity,” Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic told a cabinet session. Parliament is expected to approve the measures this week.

The postponement of tax payments on profit and income, as well as other salary contributions, will be extended for an additional three months if needed.

Finance Minister Zdravko Maric said at the end of the six-month period, taxpayers would be able to pay overdue taxes in up to 24 monthly installments without any interest.

Did you see that they dropped the mortgage rates to near zero? Not saying it’s the answer but it can’t hurt to ease some families that are missing work due to these shut downs.

Utah Sen. Mitt Romney has a plan he thinks can help: Give every adult in the US $1,000.

“Every American adult over 18 should immediately receive $1,000 to help ensure families and workers can meet their short-term obligations and increase spending in the economy,” a press release from Romney said Monday. “Congress took similar action during the 2001 and 2008 recessions. While expansions of paid leave, unemployment insurance, and SNAP benefits [the program formally known as food stamps] are crucial, the check will help fill the gaps for Americans that may not quickly navigate different government options.”

The proposal to give every adult $1,000 is one of several put forth by Romney to try and address the pandemic causing panic in ALL Americans.

More crap for the "GIMMES Basement dwellers.''   Only thing I got free from the Gubernment was Olive green clothes and a rifle   ;)

Bush tried it and I believe Obama did as well.  The “stimulus Package” didn’t work either time. Handing taxpayers their money back to just hand back to the government through taxes when it’s spent is a joke.

People are so brainwashed by the profuse marketing blared at them from corporations with something to sell, (toilet paper in this case) they have never had to experience, (or even know of) other options prior to convenience products being developed. When my daughter in law first come around she was appalled that all we had was an "outhouse" to use at our family property, no running water, and "only", a trailer house for eating, sleeping, and getting out of the rain. The mobile home was actually a step up from the original surplus Army mess tent in the years prior.

My dad told me when he was a kid his dad and all his uncles got together and dug in a water line to my great grandparents house. Gramma finally got a sink and a washing machine. Grandpa put the kibosh on the bathroom. Told my dad nobody’s going to crap in my house, that’s gross. Dad said it would be below zero and great grandpa would bundle up and go spend 30 minutes in the outhouse doing his business and reading the news paper.
