Those later 2V 350's seem to be really uncommon. Were they chassis mount charge coolers?
-
The guy told me you could never get the manifold pressure up on a 4 valve like you could on a 2v...
-
Curious to hear from guys who've driven both the old 2 valve Macks and the 4 valve Macks. I'm talking mostly about multi-speed higher horsepower engines. Was there any real noticeable differences. I had a guy telling me that the old 2 valves would smoke 4 valves when the fuel was jacked up...

Evidently its sold...

If your gonna drive it you will have to keep fluid in it,its almost impossible to steer a truck that has power steering that is disabled because of a bad pump or no fluid going to it.How bad does it leak, can you bring enough extra fluid with you to get home?
Yeah, I was told to just keeper' topped off with Lucas stop leak.... But I actually don't know how bad it runs out... He claims its worse when you turn the wheel

The box in the picture is a Sheppard. The input seal is just the same as a 392. Before you get too involved in this one see if you can find a Ross. They are much better in this application. The pitman arms stay tight and the pitman shaft bushings last longer. Back in the day we ran a small fleet of these and found this out. I found a nice one for mine at Global in NH acouple years back. Phil was there at the time and it was only $250. Good luck, Steve
What is the Ross model number? Or should I just say a "Ross" pump for a Superliner 1?

And how much GHG do passenger airplanes generate.... but people hate/fear trucks and LOVE to fly...

yep,but you can tell when it's getting low,no reason to run it dry if you pay attention
Do you know for certain if parts for these old boxes are still around?
-
I'd do like Ron said, filler full of Lucas and put it in the wind,if it gets to steering hard, stop and dump in some more.
If it run dry for very long, would it ruin the pump?
-
A 87 would have different steering box
Would you just run her home like leaking like that?

RealDiehl try this number at the Mack dealer - 6990-HFB640001 that was the seal kit for my 87 and I got it from the local Mack dealer
That has the steering box located on the axle?
-
If you plan on driving it home I would buy some Lucas power steering stop leak or Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer and drive it home. with Lucas in there it would be better than just plain 15w-40 oil, may not leak that bad. rebuild it when you get it home just a thought.
Does that stuff work pretty well?

Does your truck have one box or two and if it does which box is leaking, I have a rebuild seal kit from Mack that I never used on my truck, it was from the passenger side, I had to replace both my steering box's, the driver side was just worn out so I replaced it with one from Mack and the other side was leaking, we opened it up and the outer seal just had to much of a wear grove under it that new seals would of leaked sooner or later so we replaced it aswell. So if you need a kit I have one.
Jack
It has one box located on the steering axle.

Bought a Superliner 1 that is 900 miles away. Runs and drives well, but leaks power steering fluid at the box seal. Leak's pretty bad. I want to drive it home, not the least bit worried about manual steering, but I don't want to do further damage by running it dry.
Guy I bought it off of offered to fix it before I took off, but I want to source parts and any info for him I can beforehand.
So, two questions.
Will I do any damage by just driving it dry?
Second, Can someone get me a parts list for that box? My local Mack shop can't find anything on it anymore. (Thank you Volvo)

I just bought a Superliner 1, haven't got it home yet... but may be interested. These fit all Superliner 1's?

My Brother and I have 2, a 72 R797ST 375 v8 and a 76 RS795LST 325 V8.
Thanks, Josh
What is the difference between the 375 and the 325? pump settings only????

Up until two years ago I would regularly gross 120,000+ with my aluminum framed 79 w900. No worries truck handled it fine.
I've seen them around working hard yet too... I don't know why they had such a bad reputation.....
-
Looks like a R700 with a Superliner hood adapted to it.
Caption under photo translates into "Traksomex, compiled from several types models Mack"

I always think of Hemingway's "Farewell to Arms" when I see WWI military trucks...
That bronze grill surround certainly seems out of place on a military truck. Too good of a target.
-
That isn't the first Superliner Traxsomex I've seen either... There is a photo of a blue one in a book I have.... I'd like to know the production #'s on them.

I'm curious to know where "Rob" is????

I've heard that they make good ramps....
