  1. This is for a dump truck correct, would you consider going with a dump truck stack, you can cut it down to where its just above the cab shield, thats what I did, actually I made my own stack from left overs, also I scored a new Donaldson chrome internal muffler on e-bay for cheap, this setup works well for me,no noise and don't have to worry about hitting any thing with it..This is on a cl but same difference.

  2. "Now lemme' see,i left Bakersfield yesterday, delivered in Indianapolis this morning,dead-headed to Chicago for my re-load,which i'll empty out in Jersey City tomorrow,............now that's carry the one, divided by six, multiplied by 8 hours driving time,10 in the bunk,BINGO! should come out just right"! AND if I stick with it,and don't fritter around,i'll be back in L.A. for the weekend!...................................Mark

That is one huge radio mounted on the dash under his cb..
  3. Macks: how do you get away with no health card. in wa. state even as a farmer working 150 air miles or less from home I must have a valid card.

I certified for EA-Excepted Intrastate, being that I only drive local and I got my cdl prior to 9-9-99 I'm exempt from the requirement. If you are driving a vehicle that is owned and controlled by a farmer and used to transport agricultural products to and from your farm and the vehicle is NOT a combination vehicle ie tractor trailer and you stay within 150 air miles of your farm then you can certify to EA or EI and will be exempt..

  4. Are the injectors held only by the studs with nuts or is there something else too? I haven't started anything yet. I'm trying to wait on my manuals to get here.

Yes use two small pry bars under the ears and see if they will pop out,if not you may need to use an injector puller.Forgot to say just remove the nuts from the studs there is nothing else holding them.

  5. Since I bought the rd I fixed minor details that are normal with an used truck but now I might be over my head..

Truck seems to consume lots of oil ...as much as 1 gallon a week....!!

It does not have any engine leaks ,it does not smoke much and it gets the same gas mileage as my 98 ch613.(which only has 300k & its very fuel efficient)

In the past cold mornings it has refused to start but with ether and I have begun to think that since it has 614,000 miles and 24000 engine hours it might be time for an overhaul.

Truck runs like a champ like the rest of the bull dogs in my small fleet yet this issue concerns me.

What is the best way to go about repairing the engine and since I assume its a bad compression issue due to worn rings or sleeves , what kits are available to fix this issue.

    1996 rd688s , 350hp coupled to a 9 speed maxi.

PS:On mornings with normal temp the truck cranks and fires unenvenly for two secs and it goes on to normal idling. Also al filters changed 3 weeks ago..

    Please help!!

One thing I learned over the years is when a diesel engine is hard to start on cold days it's most likely caused by low compression!!
