Hello all. This is my 1970 CF Mack that I bought. Where can I find the lenses for the ICC lights on the roof? Mine are all cracked with some of them taped together!
Barry right here at the B-model store has the replacement lights you're looking for, also try www.class8truckparts.com/grote they have all the replacement parts as well.grote lighting is the original manufactorer of these lights. hope this is some help to you,...mark

north out of minot nd. on 83
Did ya see that B-model up on the constuction company sign just before you get into minot? when ya crossed into canada, see that huge excavator crane working in the pit mine? that thing is huge! i have tryed to stop and get a picture of it,but theres really no good place to pull off the road there......mark

looked like kansas
Where'd ya go? i run central/western canada quite a bit, pretty nice country up there when its not snowing! i think i hung my chains more this past winter then i have my entire trucking career!....mark

Personal preference: I don't like rain caps except on a genset with vertical exhaust. A coffee can works very well for my applications if the truck is stored out of doors which mine typically are not.
Rob
Just gotta'remember to take them off before stating! fired my R-model up years ago, blew the coffee can off, right onto the hood of my freshly painted pickup!...mark

Mark, It was A 359 musta hit the wrong # That is the truck ! The guy who owned them was Izzy Spiegel he bought a bunch from A.P.A. in No. Bergen. They had 250 Cummins, 10 sp. r/r and the biggggeeessssttttt dam single axle rear I have ever seen !! And boy he ran those Brock's for many many years they where real good truck's BULLHUSK
Thought you'd like that! my uncle was apa's dock forman down in philly (aramingo ave.) for many years, the guy that drove this truck was the posterboy for apa! used to wear a tie,old time drivers hat and all! this truck was his baby! I'm right there with you, these were GREAT trucks. Just like you remembered, this was a 250 cummins,10 spd.road ranger. this particular truck did a shuttle from allentown to philly twice a day. i got to hang around there quite a bit when i was a kid....mark

Your B looks just like mine, same year also. Bet you dont know the serial num. do you? I wonder how close they were in production.
No, don't know the serial# but sure i can find it out,i'm still in contact with the guy that bought the truck, he has a few macks that he "tinkers" with. I'll see what i can find out......mark

I generally dont't go for the modified look in a classic truck, but after re-reading the entire set of posts,i had my doubts about the final outcome of this truck, but i have to say it came out great! I admire good craftsmanship, and i for one would like to compliment your welder! really slick job on the tailight setup! the fit/finish is second to none i've seen. Everyone associated with this project should be proud of how it turned out!.............mark

Gotta agree with bullhusk, electronic ignition is the only way to go,relatively simple transplant as well. JFYI, all the MB's i've ever been around were notorious for clogging fuel filters, just something else to keep in mind. A LOT of the big common carriers used MB's for years,i drove one myself and it was a damn good truck!..mark

Great story, I remember those Old Hess tankers running up and down the NJ Turnpike and route 130 hitting all the Hess Stations- and I had one of those B model Hess tankers when I was kid! Glad to hear that your work on that truck made it worthwhile and got to learn on it and best of all it is still around, but the current owners should let you buy it (first) when they finally are ready to let it go!
Firemack
Thanks for the kind words! yeah i hope when/if they do decide to sell they'll give me first crack at it, i'd sure like to bring it home, these single axle b-models are getting harder to find everyday!....mark

This is a picture of the first truck i ever drove,it was a 1963 B-61T,END 673 thermodyne, backed by a triplex. My grandfather ran a small truck farm in south jersey and we used our trucks to haul produce from farm to market (apples, peaches).Pop being a product of the depression, never bought anything new,so when we needed a truck for me,we went to an auction in north jersey, this had been an old hess oil truck. At the time i believe this truck was puchased for right around $800.00! in running and driving condition. We spent about 3 months going over it,both mechanically and cosmetically. I was taking auto shop classes in school at the time, and i did all the bodywork and paint,we thought it came out pretty well for an "amature" job. I got the standard tutorial in the triplex from both pop and my dad,i spent that summer spotting trailers and getting to know "my" truck. Some of the best memories i have were spent in this truck. It was here that my life-long facsination with mack trucks began. My dad and grandfather taught me all i know about trucks and trucking, which was about half of what they knew! both are gone now,and there is'nt a day that goes by that i don't miss them. Between the 2 of them and me,there is almost a hundred years experience behind the wheel.Pop retired in the late 80's and all the farm equipment was sold at auction,i was un-able to buy the truck, but it is still in existance and NOT for sale! maybe someday?...........mark

I drove a twin sister to Deremack axle forward ch pulling a 26' enddump for 3 years. DAYS OF THUNDER. Grossing about 120,000 lbs every time it rolled (loaded like a rail car, driving like a race car.
I never pulled that kind of weight,i started in a 28FT.bathtub dump in my younger days,i have a lot of respect for guys that run dump trucks,i personally never liked it.Give me a dryvan on level ground anytime!......mark

Don't feel bad. Last week I put a bedside on an 09 Chevy 1/2 ton because the owner jacknifed his trailer full of ATV's when it got away from him backing up. This guy hauls new Caterpillar equipment for a living on both Lowboy, and dropdeck, but freak accidents can humble us at any time.
Rob
Hi rob,we were having a picnic at a lake near us a few summers ago,it was something to see! people trying to back these small 1-2 axle trailers with boats and personal watercraft down the ranp and into the water! after struggling for about 45 mins.to get turned around, one couple actually un-hooked their large boat and turned it around in the parking lot so as not to back up! i don't know much about boats. but i bet this was a 12-1400 lb. boat.almost every vehicle i looked at had a bent-up bumper or some type damage.........mark

wella wella,, my vote is the green spokes with silver ring,,and i really put my fashion eye on it,,,Randy
Hey randy, fashion eye for the mack guy? LMAO!.....mark

Haha...I don't have any pictures to brag... But you should swap me trucks and you hop in my 186"wb daycab + 23' trailer and I'll hop in yours...see who crashes first!
Nah,no deal! i pulled a 28ft. container once holy shit! took me about a half an hour to get it backed in!could'nt get that short SOB straight to save my ass, i was ashamed of myself! lol......mark

I personally like the spyder painted the same color as the truck with a gray lockring,or the "classic" mack look, contrasting colors ie: green truck with mack red wheels and gray lockrings etc. but i also like what you have done with yours.......mark

Hi Herb, it was gas and really clean. I think it had just about 74,000 miles. Other than having a difficult time getting out of it's own way, was a nice car. Belonged to a customer of mines mom that passed on.
If it had been a diesel turbo, I'd have bought it.
Rob
Hi rob,i have an uncle who just sold a diesel/turbo rabbit recently, he bought it new, kept it inside, really nice little car, exceptional fuel mileage,i wish i had bought that one myself. Most of the similar volkswagens i have seen for sale are junk!...mark

were 335 cummins engines reliable? What are the differences between a 262 and a 335? Are there any known problems to making a b73 into a b773 by simply installing a 335 as long as it has the cast radiator.
Thanks
I always heard the 335's were a damn good engine, never ran one myself however, My dad spent 50 years in a truck,so if he said so i tend to agree!...mark

Neat looking truck. Keep digging up those "old school" pictures. Hope someone could tell you some new info on it.
I'll sure keep em' coming as long as anybody wants to look at them, i have three generations of truck pictures. my familys been in the trucking business almost as long as there have been trucks!....mark

Do NOT forget a fire extinguisher. Wiring can dry out and it seems to be a favorite of rodents to chew on. Have a helper stand to the side with it and a cell phone.
Thats good sound advice!......mark
