  1. The "measuring stick" is a trammel gauge and is calibrated in both metric and inches. I've used that same gauge on automobile and truck frames for about 30 years. Wouldn't be without it. It is quite accurate with differing lengths of pointers to clear obstructions.

Glad to hear the cab is mounted correctly. The hood gap between the back of the hood panel, and the cab front where it breaks over from the horizontal, to vertical plane is about 25 millimeters with the hood closed. Along the sides it is a bit wider and I've not measured the distance.

None of my hoods protrude further than the front edges of the frame rails. I can't say for sure if a 600 series truck differs from a 700 series and I only have a single R700 model with a steel frame. The other two are aluminum frames and use the pivot pin type hinge instead of the tie rod ends for hood tilt.

Hi rob,i have been following this post, and had a question for you,i saw your measuring device, and never knew what it was called until the post, where might something like this be purchased? it looks to be very handy especially for hood alignment, collision repair etc.....thanks in advance, mark

  2. After seeing yesterdays post about the L-model armoured car listed on ebay,i thought this might be of interest. This is a mack BQ with an armoured cab made by V&W in new jersey, the all aluminum trailer was also made by V&W inc. This outfit was used by arrow carrier corp. in paterson,NJ to transport valuables in the NJ/NY metro area (silk, textiles, etc) if anyone knows more about this trucks history,i would like to hear from you...........mark

  3. I would like to see some pictures of other APA trucks that anyone else has, they ran predominately macks and brockways so i'm sure other members have some photos they'd like to share. A lot of my family (including myself) worked for them, and strangely enough i never took a picture of the MB-400 that i drove.......mark

  4. Rob, I think It's for the 5 or 6 spoke wheel's 20"&22" part # on that adapter should be 513925 an the other two would be 26 & 27 inboard & outboard. Unless It's a different adapter ? But I've only seen those three BULLHUSK

Ernie, i believe you are right,we had one of these in our shop, and used the adapter you talked about on dayton type spoke wheels, which was pretty much all we ran at the time..........mark

  5. any of you mack pros could tell me if i could turn up my 355/380 ??? every time i go to a dealer here in jersey they give me a run around story

ab2,who'ya dealing with up there? cambria? this is a pretty straight-forward operation, any mack shop should be able to help you out,or at least steer you in the right direction.....mark

  6. Finally, after all these years, we decided to start a resto project of our own! Here are some photos of a B61 Tandem Axle that we just bought and towed home from Massachusetts. It's in decent shape, solid sheet metal and runs like a champ! I'm gonna try to keep a detailed log as we start the resto.

  8. Wow,lots of good lookin' Macks and Brockways here! Looks like you did a fine job on the B-61 too.

I took a load from Enterprise, Al. up to Lakehurst N.J. earlier this week.

Thanks for the good words! i lived about 50 miles south of lakehurst, down in south jersey about 26 miles east of the delaware memorial bridge right off U.S.40, little town called elmer up until about 2 years ago when we moved to virginia.......mark

  9. wish i would have went that way, i should have hauled but for siox falls, been laying around bismarck since thursday.

here is where my inexperience really shows, i don't know when to set, or when to bounce 500 miles, i got a feeling monday afternoon im gona have to bounce anyway...........

Yeah, i know what ya'mean, can be slim pickens finding ANYTHING to reload out that way,but you should be ok,i see ALOT of flatbed freight posted out there, sometimes ya'just got ta'suck it up and go where the money is! best of luck!.....mark

  10. Great! What do you haul, new office furniture or general home furniture store type furniture?

The first time I passed through Butte was at night and there were lights everywhere, all over the mountainsides and I thought "wow, this place is huge".

Then when I saw it in the daytime it wasn't nearly as impressive-size wise that is-still beautiful country though.I wouldn't mind living out there.

Hey otherdog,i haul mainly new store display type furniture, also new office furniture, only difference is that i haul directly to the customers location so it's all LTL,i go out with up to 6-7 stops, sometimes i'm out for a few weeks. Don't know for how long though, one of our biggest suppliers (stanley) just closed their plant in martinsville, moved to mexico, put about 500 people out of a job.....anyway,i like this part of the country too,i got a good friend who lives in great falls,MT we used to be leased to the same co. and ran together quite a bit, so i got to spend sometime with him and his family out there. Was'nt for the winter,i'd move out there in a minute, but mama don't like the cold!.......mark

  11. know what you mean about no place to park to get picture at mine, thats the first thing i thought, seen lots of old farm equipment along 83, i delivered just north of mohall, could see canada, but did not cross the border, must have missed the b model

Oh ok,theres a big construction company on the bypass just south of minot, they have a HUGE sign with a B-model pulling a lowboy with an old caterpillar dozer on it,i've been trying to get a picture of it,but the weather has been crappy the last few times i've been up there.I cross into canada about 35 miles north of minot.....mark

  12. BULLHUSK,Talking about those 359 brockways, i used to run from south jersey up to binghampton,NY every night with a load of apples to a packing plant there, bring a load of empty boxes or glass bottles back. Just about every night 2 or 3 of these defazio trucks would pass me on the northeast extension or I-81 cummins just screamin'!...mark
