  1. This is probably going to be one of the most unusual "shout outs" you folks have had for a while but, here goes....I am building a hand carved Indy car. It ran @ Indy in 1957 thru 1960. It was qualified by rookie Don Edmunds in 57' and rookie Jerry Unser in 1958. No attempt was made in 59'and it was too slow in 1960. Edmunds was selected 57' "Rookie of the Year. The car was owned and entered 'Harriott Trucking' owner Roy McKay and carried both names as the McKay Special, The open-catfish mouth appearing grill sported expanded metal screen a chrome oval hoop with the RH Mack bulldog logo left of center.

This is the purpose of the "Shout"? I need to find that RH bulldog, to reproduce in a rubber mold, small (size of a nickel) and return. If a model truck kit builder out there has a extra "dog" I would gladly make arrangements throught this site or by e-mail to accomplish the task.

    Here's hoping we can "Git-er-done"

    Thanks, Zoom

I agree with doug, i think your best bet is to contact dave natale at american industrial truck models, he has a large selection of vintage mack truck models and has the means and ability to cast one-off parts, i'm sure he could help you if you contacted him............mark

  2. This photo was posted on the old BMT board several years ago. How common was this hood on the R700 series trucks? My 1978 RL755LST has this style hood but I've never seen another myself personally. I have however seen one other photo of a medium blue early 80's R700 series with one.

My hood is original to the truck with the serial number of the truck painted into it on the underside. I also have the turn signals that were commonplace on the later RW series which are also original to the truck. My air horns are however round in the bells.

    Thanks,

    Rob

I have a picture of an RL-700 with this style hood, if i can find it i will post it. It looks to me as trent said, this particular truck has gone through some cosmetic upgrades, re: squared off horns, later model turnsignals, half door-dogs mounted on the fenders, and newer style tubeless type aluminum wheels. If memory serves me, the truck i'm thinking of was cummins powered, maybe a later value liner hood and grille surround adapted to an older R cab? kinda hard to say.......mark

  3. Man, I must be losing it. I started this battle in October of 2007. Guess that has been a little longer than 1.5 years.

If I keep up this pace I'll be sitting in my wheelchair at an asylum gumming creamed corn in front of the tube.

    Rob

Hi rob, were you able to find the link back to when you brought the truck home? i'd kinda like to see that...mark

  4. i was running produce from Philly to Brooklyn every day for a while and my fuel milage was right about in th mid 4's with all the stopping and going. now i run more into Pa or up into Mass and i do much better than that.

Hunts point? my dad ran produce out of vineland for years, was doing just that right before he passed......mark

  5. Gladys is on rt. 501 between Winfall and Naruna. Or between the larger towns of Rustburg and Brookneal. Or the even bigger metropolis' of Lynchburg and South Boston. I'm about 25 miles south of Lynchburg. I actually live about halfway between Gladys and Altavista, out in the sticks.

I was born and raised in Cumberland, Va. and moved to Appomattox in 1979 and lived there until my wife passed away in 2005,and been over here since then.

I went out to 501 and took a right to Brookneal, then took rt. 40 all the way to Keysville. I set the milage counter to check it, but forgot to look at it when I got back-I was thinking of getting the 2 t-bones we stopped and got at the Brookneal Food Lion on the way back on the grill.

10/4 thought that sounded familiar, my moms family was from up around the brookneal area,my grandparents lived in wyliesburg, right off 360 as long as i can remember.we moved down here about 3 years ago to be closer to my mom, but i was born and raised in a little town in south jersey. I'm actually right down the street from warren trucking, right at the intersection of 87 and 220....mark

  6. HI I HAVE A MACK 460 VISION,THE MPG IS 4,5.DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW I CAN GET BETTER FUEL MILEAGE?

You should be able to do much better than that,i also run a 01' CX-613,E-7 460, i get considerably better mpg's but, the freight i haul is relatively lightweight. you did'nt mention what you haul, weight ,areas traveled etc. there are many things you can do to improve mpg, but as already stated, start with the basics.......mark

  7. don't know. I talked to Bulldogman on the phone last Sunday and he said they had gotten about 8 or 10 inches of rain in Millington and they were calling for more, but he was high and dry.

Hey otherdog, just wondered where gladys,VA is ? after reading a lot of your posts, we both went looking for that yellow G-model up in keysville you said it was about an hour from you, its about an hour from me too. I'm down in ridgeway,va bout' 7 miles south of martinsville........mark

  8. By looking at the hood, it is an ED- not sure of the year. ED's had just the trim strips along the sides of the hood. Bigger E's have vents under each of the strips. This probably did start life as a pickup.

That was my best guess as well, though i did consider an EE model too. not sure about it starting out as a pickup though, the body that was on it was off a 3/4 ton international, and the young guy i talked to said when they got it,it had a platform/flatbed body on it. so at this point it's anybodys guess, but i do agree with you,i think its an ED also. mark

  9. So was the backing up difficult because of where you had to go or what you couldn't keep from looking at...??

It was a little of both to tell you the truth! but sometime i'll post the set of pictures i took backing into this place, it was quite the ordeal!...mark

  10. So are you a CHiP?

I was watching "Dangerous Drives" on Speed channel the other night...they had the CHP on I-15 from I think Bakersfield to Vegas. I couldn't even imagine dealing with that...but that's coming from a 'flatlander' here in IL who's buried in a cornfield town has a whoppin 1300 people.

Man that drive can be"interesting" to say the least! especially friday night and sunday night, all the drunks and speeders are headed back to L.A. theres been a time or two when its taken me 8 hours to drive from vegas to los angeles (little over 200 miles)......mark

  11. How about this one? this was at virginia tech in christiansburg a few years ago, this was one of the toughest places i ever backed into! but the scenery was sure nice! i was taking pictures to document the back-in when this walked by......mark

  12. THATS IT???

    ONE???

    FULLY CLOTHED???

Y'all need to run down thisaway. A seat 13 feet high does wonders with 8 foot concrete walls

Man thats just what i was thinking when i replied to that picture you posted the other day! I get down to southern fla. ocasionally, but not as often as i'd like, the "seatcovers" are awsome down there this time of year! mark

  13. What dealer did you buy it from? Horner?

Yes i ordered it from horner, they were "my" dealer for a good long time, till they sold out, i have nothing good to say about the bergey group that bought the dealership ,other than that they still have a great parts guy,(came from horner) he's not afraid to dig deep and find what you need. If you ever get stuck looking for a part, he's worthwhile giving a call at the vineland branch, his name is melvin street (streetzy) he will sure help you out if you need something, and you're not too terrible far from their pennsauken branch. mark

  14. I'm a California "Bear" is what I hear them calling me on the c.b. all the time. I have a soft spot for trucks though, as you can tell I've got my work cut out for me on my ol' H-63. Not too many of my co-workers are fond of my restoration project but like I've told them, I've driven hot rods and sport bikes long enough, I drive fast at work everyday but I've had the most fun driving that ol' rust bucket, blowing black smoke with my little boy ridin' shotgun. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Hopefully next year she'll be all dolled up and back on the road. There's not very many Macks out here, unfortunately it's Peterbilt country. We also have plenty of bleeding heart liberals like the pics posted above, I get to deal with those kinds of people on a daily basis and people wonder why we're not so warm and fuzzy all the time. Only 19 more years until retirement, wooohooo!!!

A bear with an H-63? now i have seen it all lol! thats great! nice to see that someone in california has an interest in something besides a peterbilt.I liked reading about you taking you little boy for a ride, my son sure gets a kick out of riding with me, especially when i let him "drive". I for one could'nt do your job, not in cally anyway.Im always curious where the interst in trucks comes from outside the industry........mark

  15. getting ready to redo my exhuast manifolds on a e9. going to biger turbo and more fuel. has anyone extrude honed and jethot coated them. is there any gain in hp or cooler exhaust temp. this truck is used everyday its not a pull truck so im looking for durability. thanks

I have an E-7 460 in a 01' CX-613, and have had my exaust manifold jet-hot coated since 2006, i initially did it for looks truthfully, but as another poster noted, i did see a noticeable drop in pyrometer temp. but no noticeable increase in horsepower/pulling power. mark

  16. Been kickin' 90 all week here in "Sunny South Florida" Humid, and love bugs are here.

good wax on truck and dryer sheets work wonders. Hard hat is not much of a sun hat (holds heat in)

    post-4436-127318162996_thumb.jpg

Also skirts get shorter as the weather gets warmer

    post-4436-127318168685_thumb.jpg

NICE PICTURE! thats one of the few perks left in driving trucks anymore, seeing those short summer skirts pass you by!......mark

  17. Got a few shots of "B" on daily duty today when I wasnt wiping sweat, I dont know where everybody else is but it got HOT in texas today, didnt seem to bother B but I think my reactor pile came close to meltdown,,,Randy

Thats a real nice lookin' outfit there! i've been home a few days now, and its been right around 90 here too!.........mark

  18. Be glad you guys were able to buy some classy machinery new like that. I most likely won't be able to and don't want to buy anything new nowadays... It'll all be 'new to me' but not new. B)

I agree, i would not buy a new truck in this economy either, i am a firm believer in taking care of what you have.I was fortunate things worked out for me as they did,i was single then, ran my ass off! looking to slow down a bit now,but you're right, its damn hard to make a decent living with a truck anymore, not impossible, but hard! I have about 10 years to go,if nothing changes i dont want another truck that i have to make money with, just an old R or B-model that i can play with....ya' know? mark

  19. Thanks for the compliment. I am from Holmdel, in Monmouth county. Its probably not the truck since it lived out in Bayshore Long Island all its life until '05 when I bought it. I only worked the truck for a couple of weeks having fun with it and then its been apart getting restored. Its about 85% complete now. Where are you from originally?

Oh ok, there are still quite i few B-81's working the NJ/NY metro area,so could have been some other one.I am from salem county in south jersey, little town named elmer, lived there all my life up until about 2 years ago, we just had to get away from the taxes, corrzine, and the cost of living! but we still miss jersey, its a different world down here!.........mark

  20. real nice mh vision....that was the first truck i ever owend an old superior carriers truck. i'm also from jersey, i live in east rutherford

Thanks i appreaciate the comment! i'm south jersey myself, down near the delaware memorial bridge, between 295 and the turnpike......superior carriers was a tank outfit corrrect? mark

  21. Don't know if much of you watch Fox news but there were four high school students that were threatened with suspension on May 5th which is Cinco De Mayo for wearing t-shirts with the American flag on them. They were pulled into the principal's office and were told to turn their t-shirts inside out because it was disrespectful to the Mexican students who were celebrating Cinco De Mayo. The students refused to do so because they thought they were showing patriotism for the U.S. They were then sent home for refusing to comply with the principal's request. Maybe I'm the only one here but I've always thought that if people have come here from another country then obviously they would be patriotic towards America since they have the opportunity to have freedom and chase their dreams. I have no problem with them celebrating their heritage but don't knock the U.S. The fact that people have come here in search of something better would tell me they weren't content where they had come from. Be proud of your new country and for all of the opportunities you now have. Next they'll be taking down the American flag on those days I guess. Still proud to see a certain court Judge here in my town still makes people stand and recite the pledge of allegance every Friday morning when I'm in there. Sure he'll be getting some flack for that in the future.

When did it become a crime to show pride in being an american? i saw this story too, and it really made me mad! the united states is still the greatest country in the world, and we ALL came from somewhere else at one time, but if you are living here, you are an AMERICAN FIRST ! not a "mexican american" or "english american" etc. i am an american of german ancestry, proud to be! i want to know when it became wrong to want to be a part of this counrty legally and by the books ie: citizenship, learning english etc. my ancestors are indeed proud of our heritage, but we are above all americans first!I am so tired of hearing stories like this its not funny! there is no other country on gods green earth that enjoys the freedoms and priveleges that we as americans do, and its about damn time people should stand up for what we have earned in this country! god bless america! mark
