  7. all this talk bout GMC's makes me want to go to West Memphis,Ar & see if my granddad's ole 74' GMC 9500 S/A Tractor w/ 671 (238) Detroit 5&2 tranny belly blower exhaust double frame & 23k r/a is still @ his old buddies shop .

my pop traded "LIL Jim" for a Kawaski 4wd 4 wheeler in 2004 a year before he passed . i didnt speak to him for a month over that . that truck was in the family business & on the farm since i could remember & for so long that it was 1 of my favorite trucks. & besides next to old dog & a 1370 Case Tractor it was 1 of 1st things i learned out to drive . used to like to hear that ole 238 LOPE ON A COLD WINTER MORNING . NEVER Had to use Starting fluid on him just make sure he had a HOT 8D Battery in the Battery Box & that ole 238 would come to life .

last time i seen it it was sitting behind his old buddies shop on Hwy 70 that was 2 yrs ago when i went to Heartland Equipment just outside of W. Memphis w/ a buddy to pick up parts for a 1566 IH Black Stripe Farmall. just hope lil jim wasnt sold for scrap . i may ride over the bridge this weekend to see if its still there . my curosity is up now . ;)

    :mack1:

  8. Nice trucks There im a fan of the steel nose Bulldog's myself (or Flintstone as our Friends down under call them ) & ya i like the sound of a 237 too . thats what i was rasied on was a 711 Thermodyne & a E6 237 Maxidyne . like the sound of a 673 & 711 Thermodyne just shade better but still the 237 is 1 of my favorite motors esp stright piped . when i was growing up & i herd A 237 start up & i didnt have to go to school that morning i was running out the door to catch our driver & ole Red (our 77 DM Tandem dump ) :loldude: . the drivers used to laugh & Shake thier heads cause id come out the door running after those bulldogs . i had rather been in a cab of a :mack1: than my maw maw Cadillac or my pops P/U . ;)

    :mack1:

  9. Gotta go with Tom on this one,1967 GTO (in my opinion) was one of the best looking cars ever made,my number two choice is the 1970 Buick GS.......................................Mark

Mark ive Got a uncle by marriage who has a 69 Buick GS Fully restored when he 1st bought it it was in a field & he had to cut a sapling tree out of the engine compartment . now it looks like it came off the showroom floor & it does pretty good down the strip too .

    :mack1:

  10. My dad bought the B422T Thats in my profile pic from friends of the family it had a blown 438 Mack gas motor & dad took the gas motor out & put a 711 down in "old dog" left the 10spd duplex & 6:17 Ratio Rear end in it & old dog wont run but about 48 to 50 mph flatout but will pull a house down when he is running .

The Truck was 1 of our farm trucks (the only 1 that would pull 1,000 bushels of soybeans & wheat out of the bottoms loaded) the other trucks were gas bunner ford & Chevy's & a 74 GMC 9500 S/A W/238 Detroit & 5&2 tranny

old dog was also in our small excavating company so it did double duty & was our lowboy for many years & hauled our D5B Cat, 955L Cat & 225 Cat from job to job round the Memphis area .

Another friend of the family has old dog now & gonna get him running & hopfully restored & put under a lowboy to move his dozer around on the farm & from field to field or from the farm shop to the field .

I Know we are talking bout a B 42 But i know a B422T Is similar specs cause i remember when i was growing up & after my dad passed when i was 2 . My granddad & great uncle still had a few B42's that dad bought for parts still on the farm .

Good luck w/ your project & keep us posted .

:mack1: (my namesake is my profile pic ..lol )

  11. Always remember Vinnster - Photos lie! It was really rough and rusted out all over from spreading fertilizer.

Ya Fertilizer can do a number on a truck seen a lot of trucks through the years @ sales i was interested in buying then get to looking @ it close up & it would be rusted out due to salt or fertilizer thats when i back away FAR AWAY From it .

    :mack1:

  12. If the wrecker company I had been working for wasn't bought out, I would have used their trucks to get my CDL...I had my permit and was being trained into the medium/heavy duty wrecker. Shit happens, though, and I ended up going to a 2-week school....tested the first day they let us (I was the ONLY one that passed that first day) and got the hell out of there. 3 weeks out with a trainer (they usually did at LEAST 4-5 weeks) after the trainer's truck lost it's ECM....he said I was good enough to not need that last week or two, and I've been out here on my own ever since. Really started learning HOW a truck works while hauling logs...part of my job was doing the routine maintenance (oil changes & grease) and would be the truck boss's extra set of hands for any other minor repairs (he was an ex-Mack mechanic). Major stuff still went to Mack...but we did quite a bit in-house. Realized wrenching on big trucks isn't all that much different than wrenching on cars & pickups (which I've been doing since before I could drive)...you just need bigger wrenches....and ever since then, I've ALWAYS carried tools. Of course now that I own the truck that I drive, my on-board tool kit takes up a bit more space than it ever did as a company driver (24" x 24" x 36" side box stuffed full as opposed to a simple 18 to 20" tool box). Tearing into the engine, transmission, or center sections of the drives is about all I won't do these days. If I was completely out of debt and had plenty of money in the bank to cover the bills for a while, I might tear into those as well....but when you need the truck to be running, you don't have time to "figure it out" as you go & some things are just best left to those who know WTF they are doing.

...and yeah, I remember no AC in the summer time like it was today. Come to think of it, it WAS today...and yesterday....and the day before that....and the 4+ years before that. I sure hope I never have to fire myself, because most drivers you see these days are pansy-asses and view AC as a "necessity" rather than the luxury item it really is. Mankind survived for thousands of years before the invention of AC....we can do without it today, too.

Yup we did everything in house except the major stuff sent the major stuff to our mechanic in the backwoods of Millington,Tn . I Pretty much had a rolling shop on a 84' K3500 GMC 1 Ton flatbed & a 89 F250 Ford 2wd p/u if a dozer or other piece of equipment went down in the field or 1 of our dump trucks or our lowboy went down on the roadside. your right bud ya gotta know how to turn wrenches when you are an O/O & Try to saveas much $ as ya can .

We had 1 truck that had A/C On it & the driver was so used to going w/o A/C For years he hardly used it this part of the reason why i hardly use A/C In a work truck to this day .i now work for the guys that sold us our tires & the 1 ton i drive @ work has A/C On it & i wont use it most of the time cause if i have to get out it makes it worse on me Getting in & out of the truck . ive got sick this way before & i learned from it after a hose busted on a Cat trackhoe many years ago & i had to get out & fix it .

  14. Back in high school I always liked the "herbal" variety.

    Rob

Was into the herbal thing during my high school years & early 20's cause of my MILD Case of C.P on the left side now its out of the system totally but @ 1 time i was so into the habit my granddad handed me a $ 50 bill said go get some 2.5% limo tint & you & your brother tint the windows on the 2590 Case your operating . he said i know your hurting but i dont need my clients seeing you smoke while your working w/ the tractor & pan . was a sight to see the bottom half of the back window on the 2590 cracked & white smoke rolling out . the others on the crew would get on the radio & say well we know What :mack1:'s doing he hurting again .

Randy seen the pics on FB I Had to take a 2nd look @ the tranny fer what was wrong but finally seen it & @ 1st i thought it was an 18spd Mack tranny . ;). hope ya get that big tranny fixed & back to making $ soon bud .
