  1. Sorry to hear about the engine troubles, I think I would have to stick with the big cam, I like the N14 idea and obviously I'm all for Mack engines. However the 855 Cummins is a solid engine, and you can in frame that engine cheaper than an E7. I wouldn't worry about the block unless it didn't meet specs, if the counterbores can be cut smooth and the crank and cam are good ID in frame it with Cummins parts and three reman heads. While your at it you can swap your injectors out for a set of CARB approved 9 hole injectors, the 48state injectors are 7 hole if I remember right and the better atomization helps power and economy. I don't know if they are still doin it but Cummins used to in frame big cam engines for like $8500 with reman heads, water pump and oil pump, and it was all Cummins parts not PAI.

You can inframe a Big Cam cheaper than an e7? Wow have times changed. Anyone else remember how cheap it was to infame a e6 back when Mack was Mack?

  2. Ahh ok. I'm only familiar with the ones that were on there from the previous website design, so I only had those to compare too.

Mack actually built a few Pinnacle demo trucks around 2008/2009 with the Maxitourqe 6 speed for companies to test out, as I remember reading the articles about them. I guess the promoting didn't help as shortly after that the 6 speed was dropped from the line. It must have been their last stitch effort to see if anyone was still interested in that type of trans.

Instead of improving on it and offering a 400hp maxidyne / maxitorque 6 speed combo they push their non servicable mechanical marvel M-drive. Just as in the late 60's and 70's it is beyond a lot of fleet drivers to shift a range shifted transmission properly. A modern straight 6 speed Maxitorque behind a real Maxidyne has a valid place in todays market if it was marketed correctly.

  3. "Rambling Man" - Gregg Allman 1973

All kidding aside, I enjoy hearing stories about the dump truck drivers having grown up around the clay pits along the Raritan River. I remember seeing Covenny Trucking's (from Succasunna) all shiny black fleet of Mack Westerns and Brockway 361's pulling dump trailers delivering sand to my dad's asphalt plant in Keasbey. Every now and then I would catch a glimpse of DiPaolo's V12 Kenworth bringing in rock from Mt Hope Quarry. What a sweet-sounding truck! Good times.

Are you talking about Gallo's palnt in Keasby?

  4. B M Underwall from Linden had some nice V- 12 Brockways and nice Autocars back in the late 60's and early 70's

    BULLHUSK

I remember hearing the stories from my Dad about Underwalls iron. All with big power, big brakes 8" shoes on truck and trailer, and lots of options. Had Autocar tandem dumps with 318's with n70's, Brockway tractors with V12's hauling City dump trailers. He even had some Ford LT9000 Tandem dumps with Montone bodies which my uncle bought used from him. (They were junk and the first and last Ford big trucks my uncle (FERNEL Trucking) ever owned.) They were black cab with red frames and were lettered for P&F trucking out of Freehold NJ.

His drivers used the big power and brakes to run heavy and not look it! I just love hearing stories from "back in the day trucking in NJ".

  5. Well im going off 35+ yrs of experience on just macks and the fact that when a local company bought a bunch of trucks in 86 or 87 and they wanted tip turbines so mack put 2v heads on for the tip turbine. these were 350 12 speed combinations

The factory never installed a tip turbine on a 4vh but it will fit. I have seen it done.

  6. The air is still leaking down over a few days. It seems the air leaks down quicker when the trailer lines are disconnected. I bought a TP (tractor protection) valve from Barry. I am going to replace the TPV and see if it helps prevent leakdown.

BTW, does anyone know what the Blue knob/valve does? I never use it, just the Yellow (without trailer) and both Yellow and Red with trailer.

If the truck holds air for a "few days" I wouldnt be chasing any more air leaks if it was me.
