Can't believe the price of tires, just got a price on Goodyear 12/24.5 from the tire shop I always use and who always has the pest prices he told me 690 apiece, just last summer the same tire was five and change even the continental tire in that size was almost six hundred,he also told me the price is just gonna keep going up along with the price of oil and everything else,Not looking good at all !!!
We used to run 12r24.5 on the drives of our tri axle dump but with the prices of tires we down graded to 11r24.5 since the prices have soared. I know you need the weight capacity on a tandem dump, but they really hit you on the price of the 12's. I used to run Conti Hsc's and they were right around $400. They were over $600 when I switched to the 11's. Bought 8 11r24.5 Yokohama 16ply 501za for $405 a piece last may. I dont want to know what they are now.
I just priced getting some of my own casings re-capped and a 11r24.5 is over $200 on MY CASING! I dont want to know what they are going to get for a 11.00 24!

Is that your full flo filter mounted behind the cab? If you wouldnt mind posting a pic of it and the mounting bracket. My brother has a 67 R607 and the engine mounted full flo bracket has always been a problem. It has been welded and fixed so many times that we are thinking about mounting the filter on the frame. I just want to do it so it looks factory. Thanks

The first gen Dmax 01 to 04 had injector problems. There is also a glow plug problem, and the worst of it is them seizing in the head, but can be solved with anti sieze if done early enough. They are also known for weak water pumps with stock ones going anywhere from 50k to 100k and cheepie rebuilds going even sooner. The Allison is the best performing automatic out of the big three in the time period you are looking at. They have consistant shifts, are probably the strongest of the diesel pick up automatics. The tow haul mode will downshift the trans and lock the converter when the brakes are applied and has excellent compression braking for an automatic equipped truck. The early transmissions had problems with neutral safety back up switch.

That is a rare truck and with the family history make it priceless. I am glad to see it still in the family and that you are planning to restore it. I just finished restoring a B81SX and it is a true labor of love but well worth it.

I also love the "east coast" look, with multi colored trucks with spoke wheels. It is a shame that hub piloted wheels came along and spokes became less popular. There are still some spoke wheel hold outs here in NJ, mostly on heavier trucks.

Extended service was an option. It also had the large primary fuel filter and the large water filter. Service intervals were doubled if I remember right.

Wanted a FA601 front axle and springs preferably with power steering. Will take whole front cut off. Let me know what you have. This axle is the 16,000lb unit found in B61SX trucks.

What brand are they?
-
I think its called "power engine gray".
-
I agree with Fifthwheel. Check powerdivider and driveshaft for wear

Wow someone was a real "craftsman".

Does your truck have a frame mounted spring brake? the reason I ask this is the rod laying on your camelback spring. If it does why not leave the rotochamber and the mack style brakes. You have good lining left on the shoes.

My grandfather was a Dodge man and my father was a Chevrolet man so we always had a mix of trucks and pickups between the two. I my self have owned both brands. My main gripe with Chrysler was that they didnt know how to build decent sheet metal, and their first real good body was the 94 and up ram. After owning a 87 d150 and a 92 d150, both great trucks, the sheet metal was lacking. Chrysler always had killer drivetrains with sub par to average sheetmetal. I still loved my Dodges tho.
GM had better parts interchangability in my book, with more simple vehicle systems. (how about that Torqueflite kick down linkage, ha)

If your rear suspension is under 58,000 lbs, then the swing set needs to be slid out of truck. If that is your front loader then I would cut the swing set out with a torch and replace with this http://stengelbros.com/MackParts.htm I have heard of guys cutting the load tube out of the swing set and welding in a new one, but most fabricated swing sets develop cracks at the bottom or rust from the inside.

Better rethink your coverage. Ha

The Anti-Mack garbage over on the ATHS forum really annoys me and I hardly ever read that forum. Your V8 really looks great, and it sounds like its going in an equally neat truck. Is that a single axle tractor? Please keep us posted with more pics.

Try John Chalmers as i just got some gaskets from him for my 864.
Wow that v8 looks great and an aluminum case quad. What is it going in? Not to hijack but I think you need to post some more pics of your resto in a new post.
-
You did a really nice job. I like how you kept the truck original including the 864. That would of been a rare truck here in NJ too.

A 237 and a 5 speed is one of the best and most rugged combinations in my opinion. We ran a 72 R00 with 237 and 5 speed for years with a dump trailer always at 80,000lbs. Might not have been the fastest but slow and steady wins the race. I wouldnt think twice about putting one out to work.

KD lighting is out of business. FYI

Really Cool
