  1. Holy crap. I don't know that I'd want to be out in -20 degree temps doing ANYTHING...let alone working on a truck. I think I'd get one of those propane or kerosene heaters...

It's mid 20's ABOVE here and I'm dreading going out to grease the truck. I could PROBABLY get away with waiting 'til next weekend hoping for a warmer day since I just greased it last weekend, but with my luck it'd be 32 and freezing rain instead of 25 and sunny...so I'll bundle up and do it today so I can have the luxury of choosing whether or not to do it next week. I try to get it greased every other week...but in the winter I'll do it more often so I'm not FORCED to do it in unpleasant conditions.

I can't wait 'til I get my shop built....indoor parking/work environment with HEAT! just bought the land 2 weeks ago. B)

It barely broke 50 here in "Sunny South Florida". Had my son wash and grease the truck Thursday-mid 60's. S'posed to be a freeze here tonite and Monday nite.

Sorry to derail, didn't look to see where heater runs from plug.

  2. A local compny runs a side dump. I'll see if the gate is open and take a look today.

Seems though that the hyd. cylinders are two way. Power needed both to dump and to return.

The combo pic you have also looks to show two way via the air valve.

How well do you know the mechics at the company? They may be able to help you.

  3. Other Dog- overall rates are way down due to the economy. Strike one

Some people (Rob) will tell you that if the truck don't run, you don't get paid. Strike two

It seems that you are assigned a truck and get paid by the wheels turning. If the truck breaks, again, do you not get paid?

As an O/O, no work= no pay, but I would think as a company driver you get paid by the clock.

Rob, no employees are the true beauty of being self-employed. No hangovers, wife bitchin', plain ol crap attitudeNot taking care of equipment, yada yada. We're doing good, just wish it was better.

  4. Well, I got done running and then comparing 2008 to 2009.

    Total Income down slightly

    Expenses down signafacantly

    Net income up nicely.

    * Expenses were down due to lower fuel costs.(almost $5/ gal last year)

repairs and Maint. down(seems I had more tire problems last year)

** I payed myself more this year (expense) but i still did OK

I still have several acoounts Rec. worth about $13K

To all the O/O, self employed, or owners of business- how was 2009 really?

  5. Happy new year back.

Sorry that you are now truly unemployed.

Do you plan on doing JUST maint. work (oil changes, grease)? or want to go REPAIR?

If just service, a box van with IBC tote of engine oil Waste tank, grease barrel and air comp. would be a good start.

If you can land a large company and then get all filters on hand ($$$$) you can be draining one and refilling another at the same time. Find service intervals and oil types they prefer.

You have to show how you can save them money while still providing quality.

If you can show them experience and proper training, they may take you on.

Many years ago, I thought of doing the same for Heavy equipment, but the contactor I was going to target turned out to be a deadbeat for money (not mine)

I looked into a Ryder moving truck, small one with the storage over the cab for filter storage.

Blah, blah blah...... Good luck Ed

  6. What a steal. Truck looks good. As a matter of fact, all yhem look good.

One question, with the Granite, after all the chrome was added, could you get more $ for work.

I'd like to add some , but it doesn't pay any more than I'm getting now.

    Good Luck with the CH

  7. GRITS n CHEESE

    Biscuits n gravy

    REAL mac & cheese

    True Southern fried chicken

(but then I'm a white boy from CT. what do I know)

Think we might do some wild hog tonite. Son shot it the other day

  8. I'll vote for that. In the short time I been here, have learned quite a bit about my truck.

Also gettin the itch to look into a rehab project and the parts, info that I will need.

Although I entered the contest, I didn't win ANYTHING

    Thanks Barry for the site.

    Ed

  9. Yeah, you prolly better answer that cause being Christmas and all, it may be of importance.

I was hopin you didn't think that tweezin fresh growth hair while it is soft was playin with oneself. It really is work with a penlight, small mirror, and getting everything lined up so the light, and mirror are in the right place whilst you operate the tweezers. Why if you grabs skin rather than the hair and pull, it is just plain painful and could cause immediate control loss of the bowels. But, we won't talk about that.

    Rob

It seems that you are speaking from prior experience

  10. That sounds real good

I visit a fishing forum(A) that has some people that are fanatics about smoking.

Quite a science of cooking, wrap in foil, yada yada.

I do mine on the grill at about 200 degrees for 8-12 hrs. Always moist

Down here the wood is not as available, so I buy hickory or find some oak.

Have heard that orange tree wood gives a fine flavor. will have to try it sometime.

    (A) I know that there is only ONE forum, and I'm on it now

  11. I think both of those "Hollywood Lawyers" were in the ground when he had his accident.

    Rob
