As most know, my Triplex is whipped.   It still gets me there and back but it is rough, noisy, rattling, etc.  With all the other upgrades I've done to the truck I really like to find something else to put behind the 237.  No, I don't want just a 5 spd.

While at Gerharts I was admiring the Yoos brothers R700 and while the hood was up I noticed what appeared to be a single disc clutch bellhousing(looked short like mine)?  It has a 325 hp V8 and I think a 12 spd(was a twin countershaft box).  Did I see right?   It got me thinking if something like that would be a nice upgrade?  Or hens teeth?  Expensive to fix/rebuild?

My buddy keeps telling me to just throw a 13 spd in it.   I told him it is not that easy,  he's not familiar with Mack stuff.  I don't really want to get into major fab work(clutch linkage, pedal, etc).  I can do it, but if there is something simpler?  Like all my other upgrades, I spent lots of time looking, searching, investigating til I have all my ducks in a row and know it would all work.

Just looking for opinions, options, thoughts on the matter.

When I was driving Dave's B61SX dump at Gerharts the quad box was tight as a drum.  Yes, he rebuilt it.  I was thoroughly impressed with it and had trouble shifting the compound because it was so tight(unlike mine).  I wouldn't mind if my Triplex was rebuilt but having that done and the cost?  He luckily found everything he needed, but there is one big bearing that he didn't replace due to the insane price(thousands of dollars).

That was my Brother's R700. It does have a 12spd but it has a twin disc clutch and the 12 spd is a triple countershaft tranny.

That cab... and that interior... came out AMAZING!  Can't wait to see the rest.  Hope you hang a stock air cleaner on it.  Totally takes me back to my childhood when you saw dolled-up Superliners like this running around.

Thanks Guy! Yes I put on a stock air cleaner on it. I'm going for the sharp old school look like you would have seen back in the 80's. That's kind of how I pretty much plan all my truck projects.

  3. Thanks Guys. There's been a lot of late nights on this project.

Could you give part numbers, dimensions and information on the exhaust you used?

The stacks are 6 in. I got them off my cousin a few years ago and I shortened them. As far as the y pipe that was custom built by my brother Ben out of 5 in. stainless with a divider so it smokes evenly. He's one hell of a welder. I didn't get that gift in life but he sure did. The elbows are ones that we've kept off Superliners that we robbed parts from etc. I cut them to fit because we moved the stacks forward to make more room to fit the dump bed. I think elbows and Y pipes off a W900 KW wound have worked but there not stainless and I had every thing here to do it.

There are 3 of us that turn wrenches on the girls all winter to make sure they are ready to go for the summer... we take alot of pride in making sure they are in excellent condition for our drivers... in turn they appreciate the time and effort that goes into them so they are always out cleaning and polishing them when they have downtime... or they will even come in on there own time on the weekends to clean them... we as a company are very fortunate to have such dedicated drivers and not just steering wheel holders

You guys are very lucky. Most drivers I know or work with wont take the time to clean there trucks even if there paid to.

    Thanks, Josh

Congratulations, looks like the passenger door is the worst.

Is that the one that was on FB for $130K?

Thanks, actually both doors are completely rotted out but My cousin gave me to doors with it that are first class. The one that was on facebook for 130 was John Higganbothams truck. It was mint. This one was on Facebook and Truck Trader for sale for 25k or 30K but I didn't pay nearly that much for it.

You mean I won't be seeing it running up 79 anymore? Didn't he have a stainless visor on it?

No sadly you wont be seeing it any more. He bought a really dark green W900L with a big bunk on it and yes it did have a stainless visor on it but I never really liked it on there so I took it off. I'm going to paint the red visor black for now until I find the right visor that came on it.

I  may be wrong but i don't think supers came with the V8 emblem. They were originally on R models.

Albert is right Superliners never came with V8 Emblems from the factory. If you see one with V8 signs someone put them on. All the V8 superliners that have been in my family over the years had them but my dad and cousins put them on.

Two years ago I bought my B755 from Dennis over at Old macks. He had just finished a deal on a truck very similar to this one and for around the same amount of money. Truck went to Australia into a truck museum. The time frame fits. I have to wonder if it was the same truck?

That is not the same Magnum. The one that went to Australia was Tom Browns. The one off Facebook was John Higginbotham's. Too different Magnums.

  8. Just my to cents. It's nice to get high dollar if you can,but You will never get all the time and money out of a truck that you put in it. In a perfect world maybe but we all know this world isn't perfect.

    Just my opinion, Josh
