  1. That is a nice looking truck. Congrats on the win. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. BC Mack, It is a b model and it might be difficult to find a good replacement. If I need to replace the spindle and can't locate one I will look for a place that can chrome it for me. Thanks for the information. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  3. To All, The bearings and cones look good with the exception of some galling on the inner bearings where it meets the wear ring. I found a set of wear rings and will get them installed tomorrow. I suspect that the groove on the bottom of the spindle is not as bad as I originally thought. I think there is a bur there that is making it look and feel more significant than it it is. I will file the bur off and assess the issue with a clear head. So what is the cause for this kind of wear-- bearing too loose or too tight? Trenton Thank you for the information. 4. Hi folks, I have a front spindle that has noticeable wear where the outer bearing sits. The wear is on the underside underside of the spindle. The wear ring is also less than perfect. Is there a repair method for the spindle? Is it acceptable to repair it or is replacing it a must (its a hobby truck)? What is the cause for this type of wear on the spindle and the ring? Appreciate your input. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  6. It's interesting to read that MACK installed them on the drivers and ran the right side airline around the back of the cab. The airlines would be far from equal length with that set up. I took the earlier advice and have mounted my quick release/limiting valve on the front cross member. Thanks for the input. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. To All, Thank you for the quick response. I will mount it on the front cross member as suggested. Thanks again Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  8. Hi folk, I need to install the airlines and quick release valve for the front brakes on my b61. Where should I install the quick release valve? The guy at the parts store told me that it needs to be located some place where both airlines to the chambers will be the same length. The only place I can see where that would be possible would be on the firewall under the windshield washer motor. Where are they normally installed on a b model MACK? I Appreciate any help you can give me. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  9. Thomastractorsvs, I am fortunate to have a couple of different heavy equipment suppliers in my area and should be able to locate the seals now that I have the correct part number. Thanks again for you help. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. ThomasTractorsvc Thank you for the parts number for the seal. I very much appreciate it. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  11. Hey everyone, Thank you all for the good advice. I am in the process of cleaning the grease out and washing them up with Zep purple degreaser. After that I plan to use stripper to get most of the paint off and a wire brush on my angle grinder to clean them up a bit more. I'll wash them again with the degreaser and use my power washer to make sure I've gotten all the grease and grit out. I plan to dry them with a rag and compressed air but I am sure glad that one of you mentioned not to use compressed air on the bearings. By the way- I can't locate the same type seal that I've taken out of the truck do any of you know off hand what type will work in a Dayton hub off of a b 61? All your advice is much appreciated Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  13. Hey folks, I need to clean up my front hubs and through a coat of paint on them. I would also like to clean up the wheel bearings before I reinstall them. What is the safest way of cleaning wheel bearing? Can I wire brush and power wash the hubs without fear of damaging the inner races with grit and rust? Thanks in advise for your help. 14. Thank you all for the advice. I got both of them out yesterday and will start hunting for replacement seals next week. To be honest I don't believe I have ever seen a brass punch before - I will have to go looking for one or machine one for future use. Mike, My be model did not have brakes on the front axle when I bought it. I found all the parts I need to install the brakes on the axle and I am now in the process of getting everything cleaned up and installed. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  15. Thanks guys, I'll get after it tomorrow. Greatly appreciate the advice. Trenton Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  16. Hello, I need advice on removing the wheel seal from B model front hubs. They are currently off of the truck but I have no idea how to remove and replace the seal without potentially damaging the inner bearing and race. Help please? Thanks in advanced. 17. Don't give up. Folks around the country drag cars and trucks home that have not been registered for years and some how get them registered. As others have suggested try to utilize one of the title restorations companies on the Internet, but do your research before you spend the money. Good luck. By the way my first truck came from Connecticut to Wisconsin with no title and only a bill of sale. I went to the DMV and they looked in a master DMV book, noted that vehicles of a certain age did not require registration in Connecticut and therefore no title. Wisconsin DMV Honored Connecticut policy and issued me a title without a problem. Unfortunately the truck was to far gone to restore so I stripped it of every last valuable part and scrapped the rest. Trenton
  18. Hi Leversole, I asked about installing spring brake chambers on my truck a few years ago and a gentleman (don't remember who) sent me these images. The individual fabricated a bracket to offset the chambers and installed offset slack adjusters. Hope it helps. Trenton
  19. Hi All, I would like to install brakes on the front axle of my B61, but wonder if it will be easier to find the backing plates and drums for my axle (axle FA5071) or to swap out the axle with one from a early R model or other make and model? 1. Are any of the backing plates and drums from a R model interchangeable? 2. Have any of you done an axle swap from a R model or other? 3. Any sources for parts numbers? Thanks in advanced for any help! Trenton
  20. Thank you all for the information. Trenton
  21. Hi All, I just bought a '64 b model mack that has(4) six volt batteries on it wired positive ground. Can I replace the (4) six volt with (2) 12 volt batteries wired positive ground? My second question is what does it take to transform the truck from positive ground to negative ground? Thank you in advanced for your help Trenton
  22. I have front brakes off of a 1961 b 61 axle # FA 705 that I would like to transplant on a 1964 axle # FA 717. I believe there are some differences in the bearings in the hub---will that have any effect on my ability to move the brakes from one to the other? Thanks in advanced for the information. Trenton
  23. Thanks for the information. Sounds simple enough to me. Trenton
