I-78 is a mess from east of Krumsville to Allentown.  Perhaps it is time to find an alternate route.

Taking the PA green stamp to the Reading exit (Route 222) and then north on 222 to Allentown is an extra 17 miles (~20 minutes) and $14 additional toll.  May give it a try when I attend Trucktoberfest in September.

Several times a week, I travel from Baltimore back home to the Lehigh Valley. Almost always go 30/222, unless there is an issue there. I-83/ I-81/I-78 is downright dangerous.

  4. Carl - glad you got stopped without any issues.  Did you need to clean your shorts?

I went thru that area earlier but traffic was just starting to back up.  Looked like a van was rear ended by a pickup pulling a travel trailer.

  5. On Saturday I picked up a new tank (22QE31178M) from Barry.  Perfect match.  Perhaps I will try my "luck" on the LH tank.

UPDATE: posted the wrong part number for the RH tank....correct number is now listed.

  6. I heard 705 vehicles were at the show.  One of the best shows in recent years.  Other than a "damp" start on Thursday, the weather was GREAT!  Always nice to see friends, trucks, and the "walking stock" was not bad either.  Met a few new BMT members.

Mike - thanks for the transportation!

    BTW, goodbye Ron!

We are coming up Saturday morning with our three single axle macks, does anybody know what time the show starts saturday?

Someone should be at the registration area by 8am (for sure by 9am).  Saturday morning will be busy.

  8. Plan to arrive Thursday after lunch.  Stopping by the hotel first to check-in then lunch at Pizza Slut.  Rain in the forecast for Thursday but hopefully not a "gully washer".  Like to find a "high spot" to park just in case.  Safe travels everyone!

  9. Tried to "band aid" the tank today.  It was to the point of not holding any air.  So I pulled the tank and found a corroded hole about 1/4" diameter between the aluminum step and tank.  Several other places with bulges just waiting to leak.  The date code on this tank is 1991 so it is likely the original tank.  I found a replacement tank (date code 1999) in good condition and will install on Monday.  Going to put a rubber insulator between the step and strap.  Hopefully this will minimize any galvanic corrosion.  I ordered a new replacement tank from Barry and if the ports match I will buy it as a spare (insurance).  I am speculating the LH tank is next.  If anyone finds a spare LH or RH tank in good condition, please let me know.  Thanks!P6120666.JPG

we are staying at the Hawthorn. I remember  a few years ago we all went to dinner at the Fogelsville Hotel. I know it was me and the wife, Randy, Ron and Vlad and a few others?? I forgot about the picnic. I was thinkin about leavin the truck at the show Friday and tryin to bum a ride back to hotel and from hotel to show sat morning?/

I plan to park my MH/trailer at the show on Thursday afternoon and "bum" rides.

Are you thinking of Trucktoberfest?  I remember several years ago, a group met at the Hotel for dinner Friday evening.  If Vlad was present, then it was likely Saturday evening after the ATCA show.  Vlad and his son were at the NIT emporium on Thursday evening with the rest of us distinguished people.

Tom, how the heck did we not see you last year? You must have been in some super secret disguise! Ben and I will be there yet again this year and we are hoping to see everyone there! We're probably heading out Thursday morning.

How did I miss seeing/hearing you at the Martinsburg Show?  It is only about a two (2) hour drive to Martinsburg so you could wait and head out Friday morning.

  12. UPDATE:

Struck out at the local salvage yards.  I been told the Mack replacement tank may not have the correct ports and/or locations.  So the search is still on for a good steel or aluminum RH dual compartment tank.

  13. The RH steel air tank on my MH has a leak caused by rust under the support strap.  The tank has two compartments.  The approximate tank size is 12" dia X 16-1/2" length (welded seam to seam).  The overall length would be about 19".  I would like to find an aluminum tank as a replacement but open to anything that is in good condition.  I can get a new one from Mack but $3xx.  I am also going to check a couple local truck salvage yards to see if I can "match" one from another truck brand.

  14. Willie,

I see you are in Virginia.  In addition to Macungie, an excellent show is the ATHS Tri-State show in Winchester, VA September 22-24, 2016.

As others have stated, Macungie is about (two) 2 hours northeast of Carlisle, just southwest of Allentown.  Trucktoberfest will be in September (typically) at the Mack Museum in Allentown.  Barry's (Watt's) show is August 20th at New Alexandria, PA.
