  1. smaller on left is an oil ?? did you attempt tracing lines from smaller one  (luber 500)?  going by statement of the 750 gasket is square ; which I'm sure is correct. got me thinking  == there is one large  filter housing having a tapered top which the square o-ring has one tapered side that  faces up when installed to match cover angle.

  2. if your old like me; you can recall when a Doctor could "repair "you from head to toes. today's world of complication there are hand doctors/ finger dr's !!= wait a minute aren't those parts connected to each other !! stay on topic now that 'was just an example. maintenance manuals have to follow the trend of complex. all systems : air/fuel and so on are too diversified. one yr it's - - - fuel pump next yr something different. in the day idea was simplify; today manufactures look for ; how can we make it cheaper and charge more. no manual around could accurately cover things.

Also starter is very hard to get it on mine. You can’t really get to it from me inside of the cab or the outside thank God I’ll never have to change it again last time I changed it. I was only 38 put a brand new one in there…. Bob

removing the small plastic side cover inside wheel well helped very little. gave enough room for someone with a 2x4 to help balance the starter while in the cab mech tried to catch the bolts. two people one standing on tire pulling rope attached to started worked. in the cab twisted like escape artist you end up with a back like I have after unknown number of starter replacing. besides a few downfalls the 600 still fine-looking machine. possibly one reason the smarter folk said " screw that mechanic stuff , I'll drive em"

I don’t remember too many DM600 steel nose but a lot more 800s … bob

there weren't many steel nose 600's sold back then . Mack dumps were either the long nose 800's or fiber nose 600's. that's one reason I can't remember where those two steel 600's were delivered to. I made many trips to O&G torrington for new trucks ;; all were fiber 600's.

That is what I was thinking on the steel washer and "O" ring.  Really disappointed in the "factory" service manual as to alot of things dealing with my truck and engine

from what i see and hear newer manuals have changed considerably . why make one good manual explaining all when they can make a number of volumes which adds to making more money. I DO understand newer stuff is more complicated in todays world and especially when it comes to the electronics which that alone could constitute a number of books. old man thinking == simple solution ;; do away with the computers and truck electronics .

  6. slightly off topic  (no not me ) . if I may ask how did you come up with the Mack31 log in ?? reason for asking is that is what my license plate (ct ) was , I worked for  Mack trucks and Baskin Robbins (31).  had the MACK31 plate for years.

for back to topic; depending on set up/ shop equipt most important= $$$. change over that extreme on occasion it more practical to find a running chassis having matching engine (diesel) with proper ratio transmission/ rear end.do a change over.

  7. if  picture shows 3 tanks passenger side ;; would it also have 3 driver side ?? that's a lot of fuel. deceptive picture ; could almost be a R-700?? don't see a seam on hood fenders indicating an older R . more and more want to travel to the Australian side to see a positive world.

  8. let's see if the "ole timers" know this answer (ok maybe you youngster know. back in had to be mid 70's a construction fleet in CT bought two (2) DM 600 steel nose tractors and trailer dumps from Waterbury Mack . I wasn;t allowed to drive them to delivery- I had to use company car and pick up the drivers. the tractors were red or orange  (not F&F).; thought they went towards Torrington area . this question has boggled my mind since looking at this steel nose DM and also the post of ct construction .

  9. if the greedy lawsuit attorneys didn't drag out the court cases so they can collect their $500.oo plus an hr fee; the innocent wouldn't have to wait years to be compensated for lost loved ones. which in most/all cases there is no $$ amount to bring back those lost. no politics allowed back to Mack trucks

Sure, if you want to wait decades for the lawsuits to make it through the court process.  Eventually, moneys will be recovered, but chances are not 100%, and in the mean time, the port is closed and traffic diverted. The US is going to act as bank, finance the removal and replacement, the costs to our economy is such we can't wait for the lawsuits to be settled, and recover as much as possible when all is done.

it wouldn't take as long to "settle" if the pockets of the unjustified weren't being filled first. billions sent to Ukraine AFTER the news stated the corrupt Ukraine officials pocketed 40 MILION  $$ they were sent which were going for arms and military aid.

Each issue in the series will surely be stunning by it's own design!!  We still have a lot of minting elements and subject matter to put into future coins!  It's cool to try and collect issue numbers if you wish but remember, the issue numbers are mainly to signify that you indeed have 1 of 100 coins issued!  They are hand written and not serial numbered.  With online ordering, we can't hold certain numbers for anyone either...it would be logistically impossible!  If you want a certain number, you are doing the correct thing by asking to trade!

Have fun and watch for the 3rd edition closer to the end of 2024!

THANK YOU SIR  for all you do. no possible quote can explain the positive this site does for us "old timers". for the coin numbers. I would always stay with the challenge of the search. nothing dealing with $$ ' it's the challenge. THANK YOU  again and always.

  12. if only to have the remembrance of the " making a machine run better" WITH OUT THESE ----  computers. it can be done. cleanliness is Godlyness. yes it can be done to make a better performance without $$$. new generation has missed SO MUCH  in old days when knowledge was so important.

Well mecho, hopefully they aren't the two that are on the way to Aus, postage ain't real cheap, cost me just a touch more than double the cost of both coins to ship them. But by the looks of it they'll be worth every penny.

every penny . the fun and enjoyment / challenge of having a complete set same number!! not for $$ but the challenge of a complete set all same number. at 72 just so tired of everything being about the $$ . doesn't anyone do things for fun/ challenge anymore ?

Good work out for the truck today. Empty, I ran up I-84 eastbound to the state line in Massachusetts and back to the house. Ran with some moderate traffic up I-91 through Hartford to I-84 to Manchester, where the road opens up and traffic gets lighter. Up through Tolland you run into some pretty good grades with rolling terrain and you climb up towards the Mass Pike. The return trip is easier as you're coming down a lot of those grades. The truck did well staying with the traffic. It does fall off a bit on some of the hills, but a quick downshift to 4th, Hi-split will carry you over. It falls off like other naturally aspirated engines do, like my old END-673 I had in the B42. Adding a T590 turbo to make it a 262 would give me a little more Power and torque, but I don't think I'll do that. I ran it pretty hard and put over 120 miles on it, to push it. The drive line is pretty quiet, the compound gearshift rattles kind of loud at certain RPM's. Post test run, the driveline is dry. The rear axle pinion seal may need some attention in the future as it had a little oil on it. Wheel bearings are cool and nothing got hot. The upper tank on the radiator was hot to the touch, but the bottom tank was almost cool. So, it does a really good job losing heat. That was kind of a surprise as I thought it would be pretty warm. The temp gauge was showing about 160* the whole time and really didn't move much, up or down hill. Only one grade caused me to drop two gear, to 4th Direct, but it still kept up with traffic. The good thing is the top couple of gears are so close that the down shifts are effortless. and with no clutch. The clutch does need to be adjusted, again. Some of the free play I had in it tightened up. I just need to keep driving it and and adjusting everything to get it dialed in.

Upcoming things for it are a complete alignment check at a nearby shop. When I assembled the frame, I checked all my alignments with a tape measure and had everything within 1/16" to include the toe-in and checked it several time as everything was tightened up. It just needs to be checked for my piece of mind. It holds the road very well, no shimmy, pulls or drift and after 1400 miles I see and feel no obvious wear on the tires. My underbody storage boxes should be in soon. The winch needs to be installed and a cable added. Some electrical work needs to be completed, too. I've got a local sign painter I've contacted about Lettering the doors and a pinstripe job to dress it up a little, but nothing too flashy. It's all coming together and the truck is very comfortable to drive. As I get used to it, my B42 seems smaller every time I drive it. I really love both trucks, but that L cab is a home run for comfort and visibility.

think the fact it is solid red with silver radiator shroud and period correct chrome bumper  just sets it out. others have two tone/ fenders dif color ;; which is also nice and other combos . it's one of the best style cabs having proper amount of chrome and alum. only thing it's missing is "updated" clean alum/ chrome can for exhaust . LOL

The best thing about the loud exhaust is it keeps assholes away from you. Several times I thought I was going to get cut off on the highway by some idiot 4 wheeler. I set the Jake off to start to slowdown and the car rapidly left or slowed down to leave my vicinity. Yesterday I did it in the Hartford tunnel on I84 West. It was mind numbingly loud in there. Everyone stayed far away from me!!

jake in the Hartford tunnel! had to be the best sound.

They are an extra headlight light which hangs below the bumper.. The common brand was Perlux and in the old days you could get aircraft landing light bulbs for them.. With yellow lenses they helped in fog and snow as the yellow reduced the reflection back at you..

Similar in use to the big ole lights you folks added to your Bull Bars!!

to stay period correct. it would be a set of "fish bowls " (perlux) lights under bumper.
