at least this shows the "ole man" memory NOT all wrong.  earlier post mentioned , green/white with produce decal ; also the AMT/MATCHBOX. I'm thinking first version was only AMT possibly. didn't get to involved in models which weren't Mack.

Thanks bud appreciate the round of applause I was going to attempt putting the big rig in the garage and do a valve adjustment today but it’s raining so I’ll be in the house all day should be knocking out a lot of the model

you won't be alone with the "rain outside "will be possibly doing a long a waited model build myself. at least at the other rent I could do mechanic work; having even a place to paint models, did some small model painting in basement recently == boy did I hear about the smell. here don't have anywhere to do that work; and it's ONLY three times the rent!! NO wasn't my idea to move

  3. at this point since I don't own one; so be it.  however I don't see in the book where it states 15/ 40 only10//40 which in the day before all the synthetic was closer to hyd oil which comes closer to ATF , ALSO  no where  on the page is it stating ALSO change the PS filter ;possibly indicating by then 10/40 was standard leaving those few old people stuck in their ways of using ATF.

I have never seen a older Sheppard box that anything other than engine oil has been called for in the spec's. If you have documentation of ATF being used in Sheppard boxes, I'd like to see it.

66 would likely have the old 2 digit boxes "29, 39" etc and these were "low pressure" boxes.

only documentation available is from the "book" called old school. sorry

  5. in cases where the pitman don't remove too easy even having the puller on it; sit-in cab and work steering wheel back and forth ::: engine off of course. it's been known to be helpful ;; the twisting motion . better then beating the arm with a hammer. total removal of the set screw (it's a long bast- - -d) is better so it;s not in the way of puller jaws. a good bearing puller installed first behind the arm will give more area for jaw puller. never know it may slide off.

belt driven "66 most likely came through with ATF; doesn't mean you can't change over to 15-40; only concern from this old man is whether or not the  15-40  may be too heavy for the filter slowing  down the flow giving impression there's a PS problem??  far as the pitman arm removal ::: don't forget to back off/ remove the allen set screw(s) on back side of arm. a decent jaw puller will work along with slight tap on top/bottom of arm.

unofficially it has been done where the filter is removed from reservoir when changing over, new systems don't have filters anymore (like alot of cutbacks) . still have a sealed system; one less item to relace on PM's

I’ll be rebuilding the steering box soon I bought a rebuild kit in San Jose last summer that came with a sector bushing 200 bucks and I wanna make sure I got the right oil in it after I get it done Not even sure how I’m supposed to get the Pitman arm off. I’m sure I’ll have to borrow a puller somewhere.

Yes, I don’t know. I have to tell you that I left a couple of parts off and all that chrome shit is hard to deal with you know how it is scraping all that shit off so the glue will stick on these tiny parts didn’t put on the oil cooler or the power  steering pump might as well just tell you that right off the bat

NO oil cooler !!!! you can't start a V8 not having the cooler. next you will tell us you didn't put a double disc clutch in it .😱:SMOKIE-RT: LOL

I would walk down there and get some information but the guys an idiot  lives two doors down has like 12 cars. They’re all fords and keeps buying more and it doesn’t do anything with any of them that is pretty common around my area. I’ve been passing this ass clown for 20 years driving nothing but fords won’t even look at me. but I live in a hillbilly area where everything goes. We have it all… horses roosters. Cattle dogs guns junk cars anyway now I’m going on and on, oh wait did I mention we also have bozos here but this guy just got this thing recently. It wasn’t always there. it might be a cyclone.

"hillbilly area where anything goes" is definitely better then living in yuppieville where they drive around in their BMW's/lexus live mile away but stop and tell you to clean up the yard .  ALMOST  anything goes is old days farm country.

'60's Mercury comet/ cyclone ALWAYS  had my vote. so classy yet simple square design. Dyno Don Nicholson had a fantastic race car in red!!! fact my first car was a '67 ford Fairlane .square but practical.

warm weather may be just around the corner ; and the 5spoke chrome rims with raised white letters may be going back on the Mojave for summer. If I can only figure this posting picture thing. and possibly I can get up the courage to say "NO I can't fix your stuff, my stuff is priority ; I.m not getting any younger.  thinking today would be a short day :(wrong)trailer came in at the farm with pain in a-s emergency line leak UNDER 5h wheel plate. least it wasn't side of road upstate NY.

I stopped for a broke down truck northbound 99 Manteca some of you probably know where that is. This was about 30 years ago young kid just started accelerator spring broke. All I did was Ben the spring a bit . It was still hanging there and hook it back on. The kid was standing there scratching his head. Oh my God you’re a magician it took longer to tilt the nose aaaaaaaaahhhhh the good old days

and  you didn't have to plug in a computer so as to recalibrate the fuel system; did you !LOL

  13. that's the challenge  for us old folk ;; WE ARE OLD ENOUGH TO know more then that.  words can't explain . didn't need to be a shirt and tie ;; it was the positive attitude . I drive every day on I-84 in ct. parts are which are 3-4 lane. there are tractor trailers in 2nd lane going up hill lower then posted speed (65 mph) while 3/4 th lane empty !!! NO ONE CARES .  not patting myself on back ;; BUT  yrs  back couple of disabled trucks  were repaired by stopping and assisting. no $$ just "gettum going'

Don’t know man society in general is all different now ,,,really a lot of talent went away with time…  I did change the water pump on an R model on a offramp that was 40 years ago. I was surprised I had everything I needed with me back then I really didn’t carry a whole lot of tools except for a small box. Bob

without a doubt different  today's world. main reason : liability; also lack of knowledge . yrs ago -after full day of work, did road call from CT to Maryland to change alternator on company COE. then there was a road call to upstate NY to change a steering box on K-123 COE during ice storm after a 8 hr work day. stayed in motel that early morning, today's world seems to say _ tow it in , were not chancing road calls.
