  2. if my bad eye sight is correct; the dumper "opera" aka the black bitch is a short wheel-based R-700. sure would be great to see more pictures and specs on the "black bitch " always for me mind -boggling the major differences in equipment from U SA and the wonderful "land down under."

That's a big plus....I'm the same way....as Lynrd Skynrd Said "I know little....Baby we can guess The rest"

from reading the forums here ' that sentence seems to be the way of the dealer mechanics today at $150-200 per hr. they know little but guess and just change parts till problem fixed or at least a little better.

Interesting to see a hub mounted backup bell still installed on something.....

now YOU have distinguished Yourself as a detective / mechanic. It's  the small items noticed which make a difference. to have only a $1.oo for everyone of those bells I installed.!!! major construction fleet in CT having bought (#356-376)first batch of DM686 SX dumps I had to weld a 1/2 (5/8?) fine thread nut onto center of axle cap allowing install of the backup bells. couldn't use the brackets due to deep axle cap. also welded nut center cap for hubometers.

Oh, that’s the truth. I got 19 more weeks before partial retirement. I can’t wait to have more time on my hands to accomplish all kinds of stuff and.Hi Paul lol bob

hope your semi-retirement is different then most! will be interesting after 8-10 months of retirement to up date us with " how much more time you have"  !!LOL I try to hide from the world and I'm still found. yesterday was rear wheel bearing on grandsons jeep == yea an all day freebie job; outside with crap tools and no pullers. and the three days a week of "be at the bus stop (35 minutes away) to get daughters youngster from school and -----! never mind. get back to topic.

  7. reality is the fact it's so dam sad a person (working/homeowner) has to go to the extremes of protection and the low Lifes have more rights !! while gassing up my vehicle this afternoon; a Veteran walked out of the convenience store and sat at outside table. I back my jeep up so He was able to see the back window which proudly states "NEVER FORGET OUR VETERANS AND WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR OUR COUNTRY/also a P O W decal. He thanked me ; next He said " and the immigrants (meaning border crossers ) get all the freebies. It sadden me to hear and realize He was right.

  8. sadly, today's world, homeowner is in more trouble when trying to protect their own property. trick is as mentioned  1-make sure not only are the scum IN your house but ;; 2- put enough shots in same spot so law enforcement can't tell if shots came from the back or front. unless of course you are using a 12 ga .my favorite.

  9. sadly it's only going to get worse with the thousands of border crossers. most having idea "we have more rights then you AMERICANS .  politicians need our votes they told us to come over  to this country.

  10. trucks looking real sharp. the alum tank definitely sets it off . it is  with out a doubt different then most. not just the model of the truck it self but the sleeper cab/ vizor/ and the one large trumpet on top just to name a few of the oddities .

Back home again after a four month slumber. After checking it over it fired right up after very little effort. I had a friend go with me to drive my car back. He said,”Damn, that thing is fast!”. I thought I was just chugging along and shifting it easy, keeping the RPM’s down while I got used to driving it again. The speedometer is a little off and I was just moving along in traffic, but he said we almost hit 80 a couple of times. It really doesn’t feel like it at all.

But, now to get a few things wrapped up on it for its first real truck show at Yankee Candle on 5/5!!

any idea of your next appearance at a show?? have been looking forward for weeks to may 5th since you wrote of having high hopes of the B 73making it debut there. due to conflicting events same day I can't make the Deerfield show.  the Knights of Columbus , to which I am a member are hosting an important gathering ;;;Darn . 52 weeks a year/ 365days a year seems everything takes place same day.

I was going to Covington with a load of wood chips one time, 1979. I was driving a '74 Transtar with a VT903 in it and halfway up this really steep hill called Buffalo Ridge it just quit. Like it was out of fuel. Stopped dead in the road. I knew I had plenty of fuel, I think it was 4 loads I could run from Dillwyn to Covington before I had to fuel, maybe 3, but anyway I knew I had plenty.

However, even though I knew I had plenty of fuel and there had to be some other problem I looked in the fuel tank anyway and there was no fuel to be seen. Then I went around and checked the tank on the passenger side and fuel was running out of the top of the tank as soon as I unscrewed it. About that time a car pulled up behind me and I told the man in it that I was broke down. He offered me a ride to the nearest phone to call headquarters, and I accepted. This was long before cell phones of course. I told him just let me go put that fuel cap back on and set out my triangles first.

When I walked back up the hill to the truck I put the cap back on and noticed that the fuel had gone down a lot. So I got in and tried to start it again and it fired right up. I went on to Covington and dumped with no problems then went by the shop so they could fix that vent. I just loosened the cap a little until I got back, but it had sucked the left tank completely empty and the right tank was still completely full.

before the days of the poppit ball vent , tanks had the 1/4 copper tubing which came straight off the 90 degree fitting = out couple of inches then had a towards the sky bend which looped back down 1 1/2.  never had to worry about a ball sticking; only situation was the darn bees making a nest and clogging the pipe! LOL

besides all the fun; think of all the history you are saving. also rattle in vent is definite better. little metal ball lets pressure out and keeps foreign from going in.

apologize Sir didn't intend to double up on your statement. I did NOT read back that far.

Latest update, I'm just waiting for tank rubber. Meanwhile I took the vent out of the old tank and shook it. Nothing happened. Then I tried to blow through it. Nothing happened. I wasn't even sure if anything was supposed to happen, because I'm not even sure how they work. But I cut the bottom off of an aluminum can and put the vent in it and sprayed carburetor cleaner in it until it was covered. Now when I shake it it rattles, because it has like a check ball in it that was stuck. And I can blow through it easily now, so that's good.

And I tried to take a cab marker light off because it wasn't working but the screw is stripped in the screwdriver slot and won't budge, and that's bad. But at least the light started working, so that's good. If I can get them off I'll see if I can find LED lights the same size and replace them all.

And I should probably replace the generator that's on it with an alternator.

And I will have to find a starter soon, because the Bendix doesn't engage about half the time, so you just have to keep trying until it does.

besides all the fun; think of all the history you are saving. also rattle in vent is definite better. little metal ball lets pressure out and keeps foreign from going in.

Are the aluminium fuel tankers sealed or lined to cart gas/petrol? Or just bare aluminium?

possibly there isn't a need for sealed/lined tankers : 1- product doesn't stay in the tank for days or longer ;2- the owners of the tankers don't care , they don't use the product. and yes they still must own a gas vehicle to which they fill up at a gas station =after the delivered product sits in an under ground alum storage tank . in that case , we ALL put gas in our private vehicles which came from alum storage tanks. crap gas stored in alum tanks.

As has been pointed out, other equipment uses aluminum for tanks. I wonder how much of the "not approved for Gasoline" has to do with emissions and venting requirements for gasoline and roll over requirements for the same?

My old step tanks from "back in the day" state for diesel or gasoline, but the lower bungs are not to be used for gasoline. (I.E. no cross over or gravity feed).

also "back in the day " the gas like many items today was very different. wouldn't consider the hose/  suck the gas from tank in today world.  if reason is for mechanical reasons it's understandable. tank needs to have a pump  etc, the algae stories many prove other wise .
