  1. I took our departments type-45 to the local high school car show today (not a bad day at "work"). It was very foggy in the morning and I had to use the ol' rag technique a couple times to clear the windshield - so I've decided it's time to finally source a wiper arm/blade. The truck hasn't had one as long as I've been associated with it. Does anyone know what arm/blade assembly I will need? The wiper motor is a Vacuum actuated Trico unit. based on the windshield height, it looks like The total length of the arm/wiper blade should measure around 14" or so. It doesn't have to be the exact original one as long as it looks generally "period" and is functional. Any help appreciated.
  2. have you gone to see it yet? pictures?
  3. Mike Thanks very much this is super helpful! I sent you a private message regarding the high resolution/email. I find it super cool that this is a "factory" design and I'm looking forward to trying to recreate it. I'll post photos of what I come up with once I have some. Pete
  4. here's a better picture. Its not a horrible photo but If I can get a better one id love to have it for reference. -Pete
  5. Hello all, Does anyone out there in Mack Land have a better picture of this corner scroll artwork? Or possibly an engine still featuring this artwork? I am trying to reproduce it on the engine in the picture which was repainted without regard to restoring the stripes, lettering, etc. I don't actually know if it was applied by Mack (perhaps someone here knows if Mack did graphics on the engines they produced?) or locally. Any help appreciated! -Pete
  6. Ran across this collection of 3 Brockway trucks and lots of parts . Figured I’d post here in case anyone takes an interest https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/castro-valley-3-old-s-brockway-trucks/6977081545.html
  7. Has anyone out there made a modification to the floor to allow easier checking of brake fluid? I'm thinking of cutting a hole and fitting some sort of access hatch or plug so that the fluid level can be checked without removing the floor, or my current method of choice- reach up from under the truck and stick my finger in the reservoir (does this make me a human dip-stick?). Some may view this as a sacrilegious move, but I'm trying to remove barriers to safe operation in hopes that this rig will be cared for and operated into the future. -Pete
  8. PD came by the station today for a quick impromptu photo shoot with their '59 Biscayne. We're going to try and go down to the beach one of these days to shoot some more with a better background.....perhaps after the restoration of the lettering and gold striping on our Mack....
  9. I really like that siren with the front and rear reds. Good luck, its appears to be a great project rig!
  10. I've never been able to upload from a mobile device, but it works perfectly on a desktop.... maybe that helps. Would love to see your type-45 -Pete
  11. Just sharing for the love of the game.... Finding a "New Old Stock" piece that fits your rig is always a treat. They certainly don't package them like this any more. -Pete
  12. I might be interested in that carb if its the same as the one on my '49 Type-45 (EN-330) got a model #?
  13. Well that looks familiar. Although I will admit yours is quite a bit cleaner and shinier, none the less nearly the same simplicity. The principal differences being the horn setup and the pump cooler.
  14. Yes! That matches the 1962 California registration slip I have in the pile of papers I inherited. Thank you for the confirmation brother.
  15. can anyone name the specific make/model of this light? I'm on a quest to find one to replace the one that went "missing" from our rig. Pic is of the truck ~20 years ago.
  16. yeah that looks more like the one in my pic, and the hole pattern matches. Now I know what i don't have kind of disappointing actually because I think the other ones look nicer. At least I'm not the only one with a bunch of stuff that's been painted over!
  17. I was able to scan an old set of negatives which show some of the trucks details before it went off to the prison paint shop ~20 years ago. unfortunately the quality is not good enough to see the details, but the tag loos somewhat different that the examples posted here unfortunately. and there is a smaller second tag of some kind next to the main one. oh well, I don't think ill be subjected to a highway patrol inspection during the annual parade ha ha.
  18. Perfect, thanks j, id never have found that! Pertronix got me the correct part number for the +ground delco distributor, all good there
  19. I hope this isn't a stupid question but.... I can't seem to find any marks on the crank pulley/front cover that would allow me to check or set the ignition timing. Is there nothing to aim a timing light at? Am I missing something here? And a followup question - what should it be set to? I'm planning to freshen up the ignition system including a swap to pertronix electronic "points" but I want to make sure i know how to get it set up right before i take it all apart. -pete
  20. So far no luck on my search to find the VIN plate. I guess when it was removed for paint years ago it was "lost" forever. I have the number written down on old paperwork, so I may seek to recreate it at some point. My father and I had to do this a couple years ago as part of a '36 dodge restoration project. It was accomplished by acid etching on a zinc plate after masking it off with a transfer of laser-printer toner. with that eventual project in mind, I have a couple of questions: Would the plate on our Type-45 definitely look the same as the E-model tag pictured above? would the model stamp read "type-45" or something else? On the front of the seat bolster, passenger side I see the hole pattern approximately matching the dimensions given by J Hancock but there is a second set of holes next to it that I'm wondering if may have been the mounting point for an additional plate of some kind, perhaps fire engine specific? any info or pics of plates on type-45's greatly appreciated.
  21. We do plenty of high rescue work on ropes here on the coastal cliffs of CA, doesn't bother me but we have good equipment and lots of trained folks. I actually really enjoy technical rope work. I believe what that brave soul is using is called a bosun's chair and I thought it was illegal through OSHA but maybe that's just a CA thing... be careful out there.
  22. Wish that I could say ours was well done.. it's basically a big red orange peel. and they painted over a lot of things that shouldn't have been painted, while simultaneously loosing/failing to reinstall a bunch of fasteners. Additionally, the nice gold striping was never re applied. This all occurred way before I inherited the project but the legacy lives on.... but hey it could be way worse, and it still looks cool rolling by in a parade so what the heck. -Pete
  23. thanks for the lead, ill look into that!
