As I posted in another thread, I'm looking for a small to medium box truck. Currently have a few CL trucks lined up to go look at, including a Mack Midliner. I'd love to find something like this little MB-400:

Seems anytime a MB shows up, I don't have the money or it's on the other side of the country! Top characteristics are diesel engine, manual transmission, and under 26K GVW (or usable at under 26K, I believe I can plate it at under for private use). Air brakes and/or lift gate would be a huge plus. My wife would be totally ecstatic if I'd happen to come across a B-cab :) Overdrive would be nice but I'll mostly be moving personally owned stuff around in a 100 or so mile radius so it's not essential. Prefer single axle.

OMG! What a thing of beauty! ha   .....Hippy

.....it seems as though it was just yesterday that those silver Craftsman lawn & garden machines were being sold.

We have three silver and black 18hp B&S - 3spd hi/lo garden tractors. Two for pulling in the stock class and one for mowing. Both pullers were picked up for $50.00 each off CL several years ago. The Mrs. does very well with hers, (one 1st, one 2nd, and two 5th place championships) plus more ribbons and awards than Ricky and l put together! ha   .....Hippy

  3. Take a set of automotive battery jumper cables, using only one cable. Go from the frame to the cab to check for a bad ground. I drove an Ottawa yard tractor with an air ride cab. All most every time you backed under a trailer, the cab would squat down and lose ground thru the cab hinges. We installed a large ground cable near the cab hinges and it solved the problem.   .....Hippy

  4. First truck was a '77 R600. 300+, 10spd RR, manual steering, 34,000lb camel backs, 36" crawl thru, (1) 4" straight pipe exhaust. Back when it was fun to turn NH to MD twice a week!  haha   .....Hippy

I would first check that + power is in fact making it to these locations, put the ground probe on a solid ground such as the frame or negative battery post. If you have power checking it this way.  then you have a bad ground. (most common electrical issue) check the grounds or simply add in a new ground from  the frame up to where ever you see the panel ground is at. Can never have to many ground wires.

Once upon a time l spent over an hour getting a tail light (1157?) to work. Turned out to be a bad ground. l check the ground first now!   .....Hippy

  6. l'm on my second pair of Red Wings #1412. Wearing them seven days a week l got three years out of the first ones. Two and a half on this pair so far. With the wide (extended) heel l don't roll the boot over like l did with the logger style. My back and legs don't bother me like they did before. The RW salesman called the logger style the " Cowboy boot of the northeast".   .....Hippy

You mean you don’t have the douche bag “trucker” in your truck stops that have to walk around with a head set on jabbering like an a$$h@le and hold everything up because of his very self importance?  If you don’t I envy you.

Or standing at the receiving office window yelling something other than ENGLISH into the phone!   .....Hippy

  8. Whats with all the cars? My first legal ride was a '64 International 59 passenger school bus converted to a camper. The guy at the drive-in movie theater always thought l was trying to sneak in a load of friends! haha   .....Hippy

  9. Find a local independent diesel repair shop, maybe the one your friend will deal with. See if someone from the shop will go with you to look it over before your friend talks money to the owner. This is what l did when l first started out before l bought my '77 R612 when it was five years old. Gee it's been that long ago?! lol   .....Hippy

The worst thing with the drivetrain is sometimes starting out on a  hill it decides its in the wrong gear and in the middle of starting out it will decide to downshift.

I find the same thing with the Volvo. Trying to get out into traffic from a side street or a driveway. Stand on the pedal to go, the truck moves then, nope that's not the gear we (TCM-ECM) wanted to be in! We'll get back to you when we have selected the proper gear. I understand this all takes only a second or two but it seems like five minutes with a line of traffic coming!   .....Hippy

  11.  Ricky told me........It's a HSA or Hill Start Assist. It's only used on manual automated transmissions. The button/switch is to tell the transmission to tell the ABS not to hold the truck when the brake pedal is released on a grade. The percent of grade is programmable into the TCM up to three percent grade. The Volvo I sit in and aim has one with an IDrive 12 speed.    .....Hippy
