i can understand the use of dual wipers on an open cab truck for when it rains hard. what is the sense of having wipers on the outside of the window if you can not see out of it because the inside is covered in water?

Would someone explain what the hell was the idea of an open cab on a fire truck anyways. Thanks in advance, Hippy

    What is a drivers swag?

I asked Paul and this was his answer.   Hippy

A swag is  bed roll a bit of foam some sheets and blankets and all full covered in water proof canvas and goes straight on the ground

most times nice and warm and you can use the outside canvas cover as tarp to stay out of the rain when your stopped for a while

Another term for a swag was Matilda hence the poem or song Waltzing Matilda

  3. I understand some people don't like the green interior that sits there and stares back at you. But why do they have to paint over it in colors like they do? Overnite repainted our MB green interior twice, first green then tan and it was not very well done either time.  Hippy

  4. The best spot mirror l ever had came off a school bus. lt looked like a cat's eye and mounted at a 45' angle on the right front fender. You could see both down the right side and across the grill/bumper in one glance. Watch the lug nuts go round or check if a headlight or fog light was out too!      Hippy

Paul, My wife is from northern Maine (Aroostook county). She has always said they only had two seasons also. " Winter and damn poor sledding".   Hippy

  6. Junk. Solo clutches are intended for long haul OTR companies who has zero maintenance control when the steering wheel holder can't figure out that they have no free play. At the dealer I work at, we finally got it thru our sales dept to spec only easy pedal clutches. And we only put Solo's back in if warranty or customers request. They never work right and 9 times out of 10, easy pedals, when driven correctly, get double the mileage (similar vocation) as a junk solo clutch.

  7. Thanks for the tid bits of information. Having a real hard time sourcing pistons for the old girl. My local Mack guy is going to call Barry at Watts tomorrow, but does anyone know where I could get pistons for this, OEM or aftermarket?    4.875 bore with the 1.875 wrist pin. I found plenty of 2 inch wrist pin pistons available. I found PAI has the right config, but its a lower compression ratio piston I'm assuming for a turbocharged engine. 15:1 vs my 16.1:1. Any thoughts on that as well? Thanks!

  8. Hi all. Got our little MB torn apart with a confirmed cyl 4 blown head gasket. Sourced all the needed gaskets to do the job, but as the picture shows, I have more issues then just a head gasket. Once I source the pistons, (all are well cracked up) going to need the torque specs for the rod caps, I'd like to drop and check a main bearing while I have the pan off, so main bearing cap torque and I have a head torque procedure from 1973, but with the newer superceded gaskets, has the torque procedure been updated? Hoping someone can get help me out!

    Thanks!!
