  1. Here you go Bad Dog. Here is a pic of one of your Mercury Superliners we were talking about. I scanned it out of the first issue of 1982 Canadian Bulldog Magazine. I sure miss those Canadian issues.....it was nice to see all the new Macks sold around our own area. You think this may be that one Detroit powered unit? Sure is nice looking anyway.

Hopefully you can give us all the background on this unit. Wish I had a pic of one of the V8 F797ST models. They would look sharp in that colour scheme.

  2. Ha ha, kinda figured you guys would have at least seen that truck. I took those pics (unfortunately had to take through the fence)when i was at the last Ritchie Brothers auction by Bolton a couple weeks ago. It was parked in that area. One hell of a truck. Looks well taken care of.

Possible I've seen you bobo. Spent my share of time in the plant and hauling up to Hearst and Kap. You work the Superliner?

Ya, I like the north. I hate going to southern Ontario (no offense to anyone, just too hectic and busy for my liking.)

I find the moose are much safer drivers than most 4 wheelers in Toronto and Montreal.

  3. I'll be damned Bobo.....I just looked at the pic after you said that and it is a Star. I must have been sleeping last night, lol.

So now the rumour and mystery continues......

I do agree with sponsorship dollars though. Remember the first season of Ice Road Seatcovers when they went to Alaska...every time they went in Carlisles shop they would zoom in on all the Craftsman banners on the walls, the Craftsman toolboxes, then they made a point of explaining the installation of Diehard batteries in all the trucks. Then next season all the banners and tools were a different brand. Ya I bet they just replace all their tools every year for $hits and giggles.

  4. I was just going to ask about that Titan.....I heard a rumour.....that pic confirms it. Bummer.

Also wondering.....on the golden road they haul into Canada. Is there some kind of border guard or customs point they cross on the bushroad? I can't see them crossing on a public road with two trailers wooded up to 175 tons. I've been to many parts of Quebec but never around there.

I have a friend that has a Titan self loader log truck with pup, 605 MP10. Last time i talked to him he said it is working great.

Also have heard very good things about the MP10 from my mechanic that works at a Mack/Volvo dealer in southern Ontario. He said they have had less issues with the MP10 than the MP8.

  5. Quote: "they would still be building engines, trans.etc of their own design. Without assistance from a foreign country,as they have for 111 years"

When did Renault become American? Sounds foreign to me. I think Volvo will do good for Mack. I mean in todays climate.

We have to remember, there will never be anything like the old Macks. Not in trucks, cars appliances, etc. Todays norm is throw away junk. That's just how it is. So while they may not measure up to the old stuff, you have to compare Volvo/Mack to the other stuff that is here today. We should praise Volvo for not going to Mexico like EVERYONE else. I've owned International and they closed the Chatham Ontario plant and moved to Mexico. I wouldn't buy another. Look what Freightliner did to Western Star. I think when you combine the technology that Mack has brought to market, with Volvos european technology, they will once again rise to the top.

Everyone else was sharing their oppinions, so that is mine.

  6. Oh Lord, please let me win the lotto so I can buy that poor Transtar, yank that ugly a$$ bumper and visor off, strip the paint and give that poor old classic it's dignity back. What are some people thinking?? Seems to be these show truck builders are just in a competition to see who could build the ugliest, most useless pile around.

I need one of them trainsets in by bunk too, so it can circle me all night while I sleep, LOL. To each his own I guess.

  7. Our dealer here started using them on the pre-ASSET trucks. We're always grossing over 140,000 pounds on 10 to 12% grades and with the E-7 454/460 and E9's in the CH and CL's. They had a slight shake when pulling hard and they determined it to be caused by a lack of intake air. They did seem to help. I know they were Mack parts and we had a local body shop cut the hood and install. I'll see if I can get a # during the week.

  8. Thanks guys. I was just wondering this because I never saw many DM800's around here, but the RD800 was real popular in Canada. Still a few hauling logs just north of me, with the planetary rears. The DM600,and DMM are everywhere, pretty much own the ready mix market here. The only DM800 I ever saw in person was about 20 years ago. A guy that I recently hauled for with my dump truck had a const. business years ago and he had one that used to be a float tractor with a winch on it. When I saw it 20 years ago it was retired and pretty much nothing left (it was scrapped not long after). All I remember of it was it had huge frame rails, big 58 or 65,000 rears on camelback and a V8 Detroit and two sticks. It had to be late 60's or early 70's I think.

I do know the RD800 was introduced in Canada for 1982. I have the 81/82 Bulldog magazines announcing it. They were built in Oakville, Ontario. Say's production scheduled for Feb. 1982. The EM9-400 listed as base engine.

Another thing I noticed, in the vol.82, no.1 issue of Bulldog, they show a project in Sri Lanka where they shipped a bunch of steel hood DM686SX's to, and you can see a couple steel hood's with center mounted cabs like the RD800. One has breathers on both sides and Australian style snorkels.

So basically I was just wondering if they had similar frames.
