I wouldn't touch anything with a Cummins unless that new one far more reliable than the current ISX. My buddies MP10's will walk all over tuned ISX600's.
And every time ours goes down, Cummins has no parts and everything is on back order.
And just had to replace the SCR catalyst. $6800. Yet I can get the SCR and DPF for my Detroit for $1600 for both???? Won't be any more red in our yard.

What are you all complaining about. Pretty soon you won't be driving at all. They will all be autonomous.
I don't care what they do with new trucks, because they aren't trucks to me anymore anyway. They are ALL JUNK.
That's why you should keep enjoying the old Mack's. They were the last of the real trucks and you will never have them back. Ever.

Yes, they were a very well built truck made for logging and mining. There were two dump trucks built, the rest all loggers.
But unfortunately they came to the game right at the end of the big fat trucks being used for BC logging. So the company was sold.
They could be had with any engine, but they loved the power to fuel efficiency of the Mack V8. The power train was also sub frame mounted and slid right out. Was a really good design.

Can't answer your question, but I have driven many mid to late 80 R Models with Mack 12 speeds behind the E6. So yes, it was done.

After seeing these numbers I'm wondering how I ever pulled 140,000 pounds up and down constant 8,10 and 12% hills here for all those years, with my little E6 350.
We even did a test on a 300 mile trip. And the E6 350 took less than 30 minutes more compared to a C15 475/1850.
This one is an 88, 4 valve and the odo has rolled over zero twice.

On 1/12/2017 at 8:10 AM, HeavyGunner said:Like it's been said on this thread before consumers want options and don't want to pay more for them simply because it's a Mack. Every farmer around here has a 475-550 horsepower engine in their trucks. Do they need that much? No but they not unlike myself like to have option to lay on the go pedal when we need it. If Mack made a 15 or 16 liter that is durable and has power they could possibly take some market share from Detroit. Word around the fuel pumps that I hear from drivers and mechanics is DD is the most reliable def/dpf engine but they just don't have the grunt. I drive one every day and am always blown away when I drive my neighbors truck pulling similar weights with a 444 Cummings at how much better it pulls the weight than my 2014 DD15 does. All day long foot to the floor to try and maintain speed, other than shifting it seems rare that your foot ever leaves the floor. I hear the MaxxForce engines have all kinds of problems and I've heard similar things about Cummings, so come on Mack marketing team, keep the MP10 price it competitively and make some options available on your trucks.
DD Detroit doesn't have the grunt? Yours must be sick because mine is the closest thing you can get to a C15 Cat power wise.....and I also have an ISX600.
The DD16 600 2050 torque pulls like crazy. And so does the MP10 605.
I never did understand the issue of putting a bunk on the Titan. And how they talk about having to "engineer" it.
Local dealer around here have put all kinds of Pinnacle 60 in mid rise bunks on Titans. They just get the subframe and air ride for the Pinnacle and bolt it all in.

What's even sadder is Titan or not, Mack is already no competition in the severe service market.

Still I've yet to see any official announcement of anything getting dropped.
I've only seen the same press releases that Kscarbel2 has posted.

Wow, funny how they parked all of those in the exact same spot for pictures?
Those marketing guys are good.

Now I know the real reason why the Titan, MP10 and D16 are being discontinued.
Another "expert" on another internet forum is now saying Volvo bought Paccar.
So I guess they are dropping these models to pay for Paccar. Bahahahahahaha.
-
And Consumer Report's just dropped them from the top spot on their list and named the F-150, Focus and Fiesta the most unreliable vehicles in their classes.

I don't know? Someone from southern Ontario said he saw the one with the walking floor?
-
An insider friend of mine just sent me these pics. Sorry about the small images, they were taken on his cell phone and he must have the settings low.
He said a heavy haul fleet in British Columbia, Canada is testing this black one. Could be the new replacement model. It has the new Volvo/Mack global cab. Said the cab is testing well and is liked by the test drivers.. No mention of engine though.
And just like how International used the code name "Project Silverback" when designing and testing the new Paystar replacement, which we now know as the HX, this one is using the name "Voltan"
There is also a very popular bulk hauler fleet in southern Ontario that currently has the other one for evaluation.
That's all he could tell me.
-
I can't see why we can't get the 550/1850 rating for the MP8 over here.
-
Logtruckman.....one thing you can probably verify about the under cab air filters and those side mounted pre-cleaners.......that is one area the Titan shines.
My friends that have them report they replace air filters on their other trucks two to three times before they need to replace the ones in the Titan. So there was one benefit to the raised cab with that intake setup.
And unfortunately they also had the same problem as you, with the grill and breathers peeling, and the breathers corroding.
Still, will be sad to see them gone, but like everyone has said, they should have been offered with better sleeper options and priced competitively.
-
This doesn't surprise me. I've been pricing Mack's for next truck, but prices are way out of line. So I showed dealers the 4900 Star I spec'd, same as my current one, but with the DD16 600.....fully loaded, leather interior, heated seats, full gauge package, dual breathers, light bars under cab and on breathers, air ride, etc.
What did they counter with? A rubber block Granite with the base interior, low back seats, no gauges.....for 20 grand more, LOL.
Ya.....I wanna get out of my loaded truck to get into a plain jane fleet spec. NOT.

Thanks for the info.

Yes logtruckman.....we have two trucks with Tuff-Trac. A Sterling and a Freightliner 122SD and that suspension rides almost as good as my air ride truck and neither of them have failed.
That's why I thought the M-Ride would be good.

I love Camelback, but they are also expensive to rebuild here. So you are seeing M-Ride fail? I figured they would be good because they look very much like Tuff-Trac and we ran a few of those and they are bulletproof.
Chalmers is good too. I have that on my ponies.
With a twin steer I would look at all options, but on our SPIF lift axle trucks it is air ride only! Air seems to be the only way you can keep the SPIF reliable. They work a lot better off air than load cells.
-
Isn't that one of the best shows on TV? Much better than the tonight show. He shows some damn cool stuff.
-
I had that first one (HMX) in my Paystar. It did ride good for rubber block. The second one with the big blocks holds up better in logging.
And the last one is the same as Raydan Air Link. Hendrickson bought them. And did also offer it as a conversion kit.
Funny thing about that Raydan Air Link though.....I had Mack reps at the Truck World show tell me years ago that they didn't like that because it puts too much stress on the frame because it has only that one mounting point at the pivot.
But I can't see how it could be too bad with both axles having transverse torque rods?
That's why I wanted to see what your opinions are.
-
Yes you are right bbigrig. Doing some pricing on other options but so far no one is even coming close to what we can get another fully loaded 600 h.p. 4900 Star for.
Seems like everyone still keeps ordering rubber block. I'm no longer interested in those, LOL.
I'm waiting on some pricing on one with M-drive, M-ride and Mack rears.
Thanks for the info too FJH and j_martell
Titan to be Discontinued
in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion

It could come down to our dealers too Mackpro, as my area seems to have the worst anywhere I have ever dealt. But my area sources parts from the Cummins distribution centres in Thunder Bay, Mississaugua and Montreal and they all seem to always have stuff on back order.
And I still can't figure out why Cummins emission equipment replacement prices are SO much more than Detroit.
Everyone has products that fail, but you know how that goes.....when you keep getting stung it's hard to put your faith back in them again. At some point you try to stop the bleeding.
