  1. My Son is 32 ,, he’s already regretting getting rid of a couple trucks,, Time Keeps Rolling Along!
  2. You are so right,, we can’t save everything,, I remember my Dad saying the same things when I was a teenager about T models . Lol, Life goes on .
  3. I’m going to try to set the cab on this week, since I don’t have a wiring harness ( it has literally Zero wiring) I’m thinking it might be easier to wire up with no fenders, doors on it .for easy access.
  4. Yep ,, My Dream trucks are a LTL or a B73 There’s no telling how many I passed up ,, And no telling how many got put in a scrap yard. But I’m Blessed to still have the one I learned to drive on ( LJ ) and a couple more neat trucks along the way.
  5. Yep ,, same here, B models,, Willys trucks, Chevelle SS ,, I’ve hauled them all to the crusher at one point. Luckily I hung on to a few,, but like you, I could have restored the ones I kept with the money the crushed ones would be worth now.
  6. Yes! I have thought of that a bunch! If you have seen some of the pictures of old Hennis trucks my Dad drove from about 1960 till the mid 70s , From A50s , H Models, Bs , Fs, U models and Last Rs .I would not have a clue where to look for any of them,, Probably junked years ago! And to find the Rarest of all ,, The C was extremely lucky! It probably got saved by getting put on a farm for over 20 years near the NC/SC line ,, I would say they used it very little,, and it never got driven on salted roads. I put off even going to look at it for a few months. When my Dad passed away suddenly from a Heart Attack in 2007 , My Son was 17 at the time, he drove it to the Cemetery to his Funeral .
  7. Yes my son has always been interested in WWII , I had 2 uncles that were in Pattons company. While in middle school he did a video of my uncle telling about the war from The Ship ride over till the Battle of the Bulge . He has tons of WWII stuff. The Jeep is a 42 Ford . That was TRULY the Greatest GENERATION! ( My uncle with his back to the picture,, Patton in the Jeep)
  8. Yes that is the C ,, I’ll try to make the C story short,, in 1965 Hennis Freight bought a few C models , they sent 2 to the Asheville terminal,, 8889 ( Single axle) 8890 was a “ Screw “ as my Dad called it .I remember riding in it setting on a bucket, because it has no passenger seat, I was only 9 or 10 I could care less about a seat! Dad hauled paper with 8890 up into the 70s when they traded in for Rs . There shop for this area was in Spartanburg SC , it was sold there to a Chicken farm, they added 3 ft and put a dump on it . Fast forward to the late 90s ,, a friend of mine that knew I had a LJ , saw it grown up in the weeds ( Bed had been removed) . He called me and told me he saw the back of the cab of a LJ ,, And I should check it for a parts truck. I tracked it down and when I found the owner we put our stories together and , I took Dad to look to confirm it was his old truck,, we bought it . Towed it home,, I cut the 3ft frame section and put it back to original wheel base,,I restored it and had a local sign guy make the decals ( Dad did not know I had them made,, I put them on and drove it to his house for Father’s Day in 2006 . So once again the Coke LJ got put on the back burner for a few more years, but it all worked out great.
  9. I figured you were busy,, But your still making progress! That tank looks great.
  10. Every once in a while you’ve got to drag it all out and clean,,, today was the day !
  11. Yes, they are smaller, the aluminum frames take up a lot of the space. Not really sure why they changed the design on the L, H & C cabs . I’m sure there was a reason. Hopefully someone has more information,, Just curious. Thanks
  12. I had a local guy cut the glass about 20 years ago, using my old glass as a pattern. Yea the C model and H model I have don’t have the aluminum frames like that standard L cab. I like the look of the aluminum when it’s shiny!
  13. Finally got a few hours today to install the window frames and windshields .
  14. They came out pretty good,, I started out with 600 paper and worked my way to 1500 ,, Then used the 3 grades of Rouge with a buffing wheel, I’m satisfied with it .
  15. I got a couple hours in on it this afternoon, I’m going to try to clean & polish my windshield frames next, I have all new rubber for it , I took them out about 1996 so I have forgot how they go back,,, I maybe asking for help !
  16. A little more progress today, cleaned the aluminum trim and installed it.
  17. Yes ! Took it over to a buddy of mine who helps me with Trans & Rears ,. Luckily he’s got a press big enough to get it apart.
  18. I’ve been digging out gauges, air horns, all kind of boxes that’s been in the shed 25 years, lots off cleaning now. ( Superliner has parts on the way, could have been worse )
  19. Superliner is in surgery now! Will Have a Biopsy on it in the morning! Thanks for the encouragement, not sure when I’ll be able to drive it ,, just plugging along. I would like to go to both shows maybe with the C Model. Ride over DoubleClutchinweasel , any time.
  20. Both the guy that drove it for the welding supply and my friend that bought it from them in 1969 ( both gentlemen are 88 years old) Said it wasn’t a bright white on top, they called it creamy, it was so faded when I started driving it In 77 I can’t remember. So I had it mixed a little “ Creamy “ . Thank you!
  21. A little more progress today,,, Well Maybe,, Got the white painted on the LJ , then shucked a rear diff In one of the Superliners,, MONDAY!
  22. Yea I’m still going with the Coca Cola , even though it’s a black and white picture, you can tell the fenders on the ho-jo picture were black, and when I started driving this LJ in the late 70s the fenders were yellowish orange, I just have never found a picture of it with a Coke logo on it , The fellow that drove it from 1966 to 1969 here in Asheville for Pioneer Welding Supply confirmed the colors I am using were correct, and Pioneer Purchased it in 1963 and replaced the engine with a new reman 220 , but never repainted it . The state of North Carolina has the information on the owners before 1963 ,, But will not tell me, I have written them a letter and the reply is they can’t give out confidential information. As for the fenders, I’m sure I’ll get motivated and find or make me a good set when I get that far along.
  23. Replying to Bob ,, Still not sure who’s idea to paint the truck these colors when it was new , all the old guys I new said it was Coke , But it also looks like the old Ho-Jo picture. I’m going back with the original colors. As for the fenders that will probably be my last project on this ( and I am not excited about it, you are correct! ) Thanks for the complainants! Vlad , Yes you are 100% correct about the input of the people on this site, I have already met some in person, and talked to. Great people I would have never knew had it not been for these old Mack’s.
  24. Thank you so much for the comments! Looking back now it’s great Memories, And the trucks are just the material object's that we can relate our Family & Friends to . From the time we spot one of these old trucks , bringing it home, to restoring it we have memories of all the people who helped us. My Grandson never knew my Dad, But the C Model and all the pictures of it and Dad( My Son drove the C Model to my Dads funeral, he was 17 ) Tie them all together. Same with the LJ , Hopefully it will create good memories for My Son & Grandson and Friends long after I’m gone. Vlad ,Keep having fun, Make Memories! i
