  7. David, Most of the trucks/ blokes move it to the right hand side to reduce the noise from the exhaust. Door? why fix it ifts not broke? i guess all the mounts etc have been set up for that thats side, it is a pain in the arse, but getting in and out is easy and you can use the door to heave your self up as you know it wont swing out far. looking at it a 2nd time its got a collection of all different bits of old macks. -Monty
  8. Hi Mate so you have got your self an R model.? it be this for example http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140352921652&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT have been looking at it. ill tell you that it is not a 74 model, unless some one has replaced it with an old motor and a quad box. i think that was originally a flitnstone mack and someone has put a fiber glass bonnet on the old truck. good luck with her mate, you can check out my gallery for my R. -Monty
  9. remember to take some picks we love picks
  10. Hi Fellas. Just wanted to ask all you smart and knowledgeable blokes what is the best way of flushing and cleaning the coolant/water out of the radiator and engine block. I have been told to get it hot flush the old water out, fill it up again with some radiator cleaner get it hot again then flush it out and fill it up with the mack premix lime cordial, i can get the Mack cordial at cost so that healps with the $$ also i would think that it would also be a good idea to put in a new water filter -Monty

  15. The Mack brand needed a change.. what a load of s*^t have you had a look at kenworth? they have been making the same thing for how long? obviously it has been working and consistent, something that people rely apon day in day out, you obviously have not looked very wide, or dont know the market very well. In Australia there are more kenworths than macks on the road, city to city B doubles , there are more Kenwoths hauling road trains than mack, there are more kenworths hauling timber from the bush than mack's. there are more kenworths operating in the most demanding enviromental conditions than mack, Kenworths are hauling 400 tonne coal trans, 200 tonne plus hauling salt from the salt flats etc.... These areas outlined above were the domain of MACK's, the R and the superliner were rock solid, dependable, reliable, stable. people knew what they were getting So why is this so? with the introduction of the CH, Australia made the CLR with the mack v8 bigger bonnet and higher cab height for beter ventilation & air flow. people were soon not very happy with them and started looking around. so people switched to kenworth, kenworh had been very solid for a very long time, consistent, robust, reliable and have stuck server since, late 90's mack produced the Titan, to compete with the Kenworths and westernstar, the Titan went back to the Superliner roots, and what operators wanted that hauled road trains, and heavy loads in extream conditions Mack Australia in the early 00"s introduced the trident for double road trains, and in also introduced the french cab over which was a flop. yet kenworth are still being consistent, same boring old model line up etc Now Mack Australia have reintroduced the superliner to compete with kenworth for the T650 and the Titan for the T908 & C08, they have to claw back everyone that did buy macks and have gone to some thing else. Mind you i am not in the game only an observer so if Mack did need to "rejuvinate its brand image" it has taken a very long & expensive way of going about it. Yet still boring old kenwoth have just been doing the same boring old thing of being consistent producing a quality product. so thats my 5 cents worth oz dont have 1 & 2's any more
  16. Well Done Barry, keep putting the picks up it makes things easer to work out what i want, all ready got me eye on some things. -Monty
  17. Well Mate, Standing around with mates drinkin beers, you can tell everyone what you did, how you did it. thats why you got A Mack to restore. how bout some picks of this beasty? -Monty I find that a lot of businesses help me out pricewise, when I tell them that I'm not in the industry and the part is going to help restore an old truck that is on conditional registration (ie not going to be used for earning money). ill have to try that Rod, what sort of things have you blaged using this scam hehehehehe
  18. Thanks Mark, there is not much of a rust problem at the moment, it does not rain that much in dubbo at the moment but that sure is a good idea in the future, this is what they do for the salt mines in WA, it sure is a testament to the old R's thats pretty impressive 3.3 mil k's and some 43 years later, thats a nice list of mack's in your gallery Mark. Looks like that power steering is the same as in my mack, it looks pretty new so it must have been changed in the last 10yrs or so. -Monty
  19. Graham What part of oz do you live?, would like to see your other Dogs. if you look in my profile youll see the dog i am currently restoring. -Monty

  21. Hey Rob, the dark green would be fabulous, googled Sikkens in aus and no luck only decking paints, give us what you can or a variety of paints suppliers i am painting the chassis using this brand http://www.protec.com.au/ and ill be using it for the cab, bonnet hope fully they will be able to match the code. thanks for you help, you should post some picks of your puppys on your profile. Hey Mr Oz. fab shot of the cab, like the washer bottle, can see why you put a plastic front on it, filling the bottle would be a pain. -Monty
  22. Hey Mark Have you painted the inside? is the color the light green or the dark green? just after the inside paint code, thats all, have some bits that i want to paint. very nice paint job, may be the yanks can get some inspiration from our paint schemes, havent spotted any that look like our rigs, heheheh -Monty
