  1. Not really much new, pretty much just a nose job on a two decades old design. Normally a European maker would be replacing this 90s design for the 2nd time by now, makes one wonder if Volvo is considering leaving the North American market...
  2. The 400HP engine should be conventional torque rise and will probably need more than 7 gears, so you'll probably have to swap your 18 speed in there too. The other option would be to have the 400HP engine's fuel system recalibrated as a Maxidyne, not sure what all that entails.
  3. A KT in a 5 axle dump would be overkill. But it'd kick ass pulling a 17 axle South Dakota doubles set at 170,000 pounds GCW!
  4. That wide ratio transmission needs a high torque rise Maxidyne engine, so in an E7 you'll be limited to 300HP but probably a bit more torque. If you want to go to a 2004-06 Maxidyne they had up to 370HP ratings, but the engine accessory layout is a lot different and they used electronic controls. If you go to a conventional torque rise engine like an E7 350HP you'll need a closer ration transmission to go with it.
  5. Two problems. The first is philosophical- Cummins prefers to make engines and not whole vehicles. The second is practical- It takes some huge equipment to build and move a near ninety foot long locomotive frame, so everybody except EMD and GE strip old frames and build a new locomotive on them.
  6. I suspect Ford is afraid to build a real "back to basics" Bronco, the profits are in $50k loaded SUVs done up like living rooms inside.
  7. Volvo really needs to find a new ad agency!
  8. Put in most of my trucking miles off the interstate- US12, US52, WI29, US169, etc....
  9. Truman deserves credit for bringing world war II to a successful end. Eisenhower? Nice guy, but I don't ride the Interstates much.
  10. IIRC, Karma TDI has DPF delete pipes and there's DPF delete "tunes" available too. Or you could just let VW buy it back and get one of the new 2015 TDIs...
  11. Chicago to Louisville is around 300 miles... I'd take the thousand+ dollars a person they were offering to give up a seat and head straight for the car rental kiosks!
  12. That's too often true- I can see building econoboxes that they don't make much money on in low wage countries, but $50,000 pickups?
  13. You guys are living in the past... Mack has built a 12 liter engine by now, and with 4 valves per cylinder to boot! They even have something called a Maxidyne that only needs half as much gearshifting, and you start the engine by pushing a button on the dash!
  14. As long as you want to blame someone who has no control over the current Korean situation, why not blame the presidents during the Korean War, Truman and Eisenhower?
  15. We're talking about where the corporate headquarters is, not where the jobs are. For example, Ford is incorporated and has headquarters in the U.S., but sells about half their vehicles outside the U.S. and makes vehicles on 4 or 5 continents.
  16. Just a heads up, the EPA is finally allowing the sale of the 20,000 new 2015 VW TDI diesel cars that have been stop saled for nearly two years. They're marked down to $5000 under MSRP and come with an 11 year, 162,000 mile warranty on the fuel injection, emissions system, and engine. FFI: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=475719
  17. In some ways it's inevitable that with just 5% of the worlds population, we can't expect to be home to all the world's largest corporations. But some of these losses shouldn't have happened, like Fiat making off with Chrysler... But as broke as Chrysler was, no one else would have 'em.
  18. Having taken over half the truck makers, the largest wholesale baker, and most of the auto industry... They must know somethin'!
  19. The foreign companies end up owning most everything because they think long term, American managers can't think beyond the end of the quarter, with all too rare exception.
  20. Maybe we should stop this stupidity...
  21. More like the French finally wised up and pulled out of Vietnam, took us a couple more decades to learn the same hard lesson.
  22. With UP paint on it, maybe EMD finally got EPA approval, I hope.
  23. Reminds me of the Vietnam War, somebody did the numbers on that mistake and figured out that it would have cost less to put the Viet Cong on the federal payroll and order them home on paid leave then what we spend killing and maiming them.
