  4. I would like to get more road speed and lower my rpm's. I have a '82 R Model with 3.65 rears and a 5 speed transmission. According to the speedometer it is running 62 to 65 at 2000 rpm's. Which transmission could I put in it to get more road speed at lower rpm's. I would like to run 70-75 at 1500 rpm's. Also I need a low hole to start off on a hill loaded 80,000+. I'm asking the experts on this one. Thanks.

In the 80s many of us where putting 13spd's with the 3.65s and 3.87s to help torque load on the bullgear and the 2 step overdrive help with the 300 stay in the power band with this tall of a rear........but back then first and reverse where not very low for take off on a hill and Mack didn't have a two step overdrive then..

Mack does have a nice one now...... look at a 3113LR21

If you had 4.42s or 4.64s the Mack or Fuller 8spd would be good combo

  6. I have a question about a truck I drive at work, the beast at question is a 1993 Mack DM 690 SX, 58K rears, double frame, MaxiTorq Extended Range 7 speed, 317K miles, tag on motor says EM7 300. What I have read online is the EM7 is a computerized motor, but this one appears to be a mechanical beast having fuel lines going between each injector to fuel pump / governor. Accelerator pedal uses a mechanical bell crank & rod setup that rivals the complexity of a Rube Goldberg Invention to get power from governor. So my question is was the EM7 a mechanical motor in 1993? Or is it computerized and I just do not realize it.

Also, anyone have good experiences with these motors?? This one drives like a real dog, no power whether empty or loaded, shows no unusual signs of smoke, pyrometer never reads above 750 deg F, coolant temp never above 180 deg F, just CANNOT climb a hill on the highway to save it's life. All filters / oil serviced regularly in the last 7 years that we have had the truck.

Can I expect this kind of performance from this engine / tran combo or am I in need of some major repairs in the road ahead????

This engine runs 1050rpm's to 1750rpm's (It is gutless) the 7spd goes from 1:1 to .60 overdrive you most likly have 5.02 rear,,

but will not help when you shift to high gear

look at it this way you now know what we had to deal with years ago with a 237 and 5spd on a long hill

  7. They were built in the fall of 2003, but badged as 04 models if I'm not misaken. At least they were marketed as 2004's. I've been on the hunt for photos of these for several years now. There are five in my area that I know of. The two green roll-offs that James mentioend above, and three red tri-axle dump trucks.

I remember reading an article that said they would be limited to a quantity of 300; however, I had a chat with the gentleman at the assembly plant last year, who did the pin-striping on them, and I belive he said they only built around 110. Maybe Mack 3P could shed some light on this.

The gentleman also said they were built in red, green, black, white, and one blue one. (I've seen all but the blue one, either in person or in photos).

Dave, take a ride to White Haven,,,,,1 mile in from rt80 on sr437 on the left side across from the Napa store.

They have a green one with a 370 ,,10spd and a J&J Dynahauler body that came from Allentown also.

Maybe when your up there,,,,you may catch Savage they run allot of CHN's for your other collections.

  8. 96 RD686sx with a stock Bostrom frame and a Mack vinyl seat. It's a company truck, and when I was put in it, it had a broken seat that was replaced with a stock set up. Now it seems like the seat won't slide all the way back on the track. Im 6'2 250 and the way the seat is now, my knee hits the turn signal if I run any air in the seat. It just seems like the cab space is smaller. Wtf? The old 86 rmodel I drove was alot more comfortable than this thing. As of now, I have bungee cords wrapped around the seat frame holding the seat all the way back in the track, but isn't locked. This surely can't be "just the way it is", could it? I wanna get some ideas of what to do with this thing so I can be comfortable driving again.

There is two sets of mounting holes in the seat base or and in floor,, Mack did this to keep the seat from wearing a hole in the back panel,,,they mite have put new seat in the forward mounting holes

Or someone slid the steering wheel (adjusted) closer....

  9. Dave said....

Here are a few I've caught. The first two are the same truck, this guy has 3 of them, one identical to this one, and one with a Bibeau body, all are red.

    Dave

Yes Joe and Bob (J&R) has three,,, all 427's, two with 10spd multi reverse and 4.42's they came from Allentown and the one with the bibeau body came from Scranton and has a 13spd and 4.17s

Just so you know in case you go and make them an offer on one of them :whistling:

  10. Did the Mack E-7 start out as a Mack in house engine. Some times on this site I here people refer to it as a renault engine. It is interesting that the E-7 came out about the time as the renault > than 50%ownership. Amy thoughts?

The E7 and E9 is Mack and Renault working together...But Alot more Renault ,,Mack needed the push into

the 21 century,,Mack had a V8 2 valve that was killing them and they had the 6 cyl 2 valve that was stuck at 315hp

The E7 (Not sure of e-teck)..... you will find the Renault Diamond (casting) on the block only, and many turbo's Mack uses has the Diamond casting

The boldest statement from Renault was casting RENAULT in the aluminum bell housing of the E7..

The E9,, the heads share Mack casting and Renault casting Diamond

  11. I am thinking about taking my cab off of my B87 tractor.I don't think the rust is anything major but I just want to know that I get all of it.There is some rusted out where the air cleaner mount to the cab,and along the back of cab has been repaied before. My family is the orignal owner of the truck so I want to do it right.Any suggestion on a good body man.Truck is located in Phila.PA Will travel to have good work done. Thanks Mike Durkin

Mike,,,,,, Have you talked to Art Cooper over at H&K

He should be able to steer you in the right direction.....Just dont let Art do it or it will come back GREEN

What I would do is install a cross member in the area of the back of the battery box...........

Is that frame patched(welded) in the area of the battery box and is there a patch (welded) on the frame behind the cab on the passenger side???

My thought on the fame welding is the tensile strength is weakened from heat and will make the frame act like a rubber band

Is that drive shaft made too long and the slip yoke, not working like it should.. Bottomed out?

This could be the reason the rear trans seal is puking

P.S Your air compressor is puking oil

  13. Mack trucks #10105

Received a speeding ticket in Kansas

Received a ticket for bad tires on a 1998 RD

Received a ticket for no mud flap reflectors on 2009 GU

They have 115 drivers and only 5 trucks...... they need more toys

    Volvo Trucks North America #335611

Received a ticket for no warning buzzer on a 2012 GU

Received an OUT OF SERVICE for an oil leak on a 2012 Volvo

Received a ticket for no headlights on a Volvo

They have 107 drivers and 87 toys to play with

They both have accidents listed,, I never like reading ,,,but it happens

On a lighter note Paccar owned Kenworth had drugs in it in California

  14. Yes, the pictures of him in his truck were taken June of 2010. When I was talking to him, he said a couple of months before, he had his spleen removed, The doctors told him if they didn't remove it, he would die, if they took it out, he had a 20% chance to live. It was not long after you saw him at Litiz, he decided to get a flu shot and 2 days later, he died. He got sick from the shot and never recovered.

His cousin Neal Deblasi drove Bobbys truck in the funeral which was a nice tribute.

Thanks for the rest of the story,,,,,,,Was a good man and always a Mack nut

  15. Where can I find some specs on Mack turbos? I have several new and used turbo's, and I would like to know which are the better turbos.

With Borg Warner turbos,,,,,,,I call them directly give them the part #s

They will give you the flow rate,,Also what the maximum boost it will produce,,And what housings are interchangeable

If they are Garret,, I would do the same.
