they dropped the pan on i think it was tuesday and inspected the cam and lifter, all is ok there. a bunch of the pan bolts were stripped out and a couple of the bolts had fallen out but we are on the home stretch now, i think he has got most the top end back together now, so we still have pan bolt holes to fix and slap the pan and oil pump back on.

In extracting the stud, it sounds like they are not comfortable or experienced in doing that type of work. That could lead to a botched job. Perhaps they would agree to have someone who regularly does that kind of work to come in and do it.

Mack built about 1,500 3208 powered DM's and probably all of them went to the military for refueling trucks. Then retired to be refurbed for fire dept. tankers.
Could be refurbed again into a crane chassis for sign work...
It could have been that the military ordered them with the short cabs - for whatever reason.

i wonder if the price is $750 because the drum has 8 yards of hardened concrete in it?
Take it across the scale at the scrapyard.

I always liked the Rawhide theme.

If nothing else, get the data plate from it.

Air is fuel too.
Add more air (oxygen) and you get a bigger bang.
With a gas motor, if you add more air, you have to add more fuel to keep the ratio correct. A diesel will happily take more of either.

It seems to sit fairly low, is it a U-400? There are few of those.

"This happened because the connecting rod bolt came loose and the rod came off the crankshaft journal."
I have no experience with this engine but finding a complete rod bolt when there is a thrown rod may not mean that the cause was a loose bolt. I have seen it before and I believe (and others have agreed) that when a rod starts hammering due to a bearing going bad, the pounding can cause a bolt to loosen. If that is what happened, it is possible that the problem you have now also caused the previous failure.

Yeah the b61 is looking like a dud with the double frame breaking down so I can use it to repower this truck and have one solid unit. Funny thing is the 42 has a b60 badge on one side of the hood and b61 on the other
That's the B-60½ .

I didn't know these were that sought after. I have a First Gear B=61 and was pleased to see the price, but then realized that it is not the same. Not as detailed and the hood and doors do not open. Was this a special model, or maybe an earlier version?

Are the Cs fairly rare? I've only just seen pics of them. I like them, and if I could find a driver for a reasonable price, I'd certainly consider scooping one up....
Here are the numbers.

A small amount of leftover gas would not hurt anything. Some people add gas to their diesel in the winter to keep it from gelling.

Check the starter before you buy one. If the series/parallel switch is gone it may have already been changed to 12V start.

Interesting and very nice.

An experienced plow truck drive with attitude can use a wing plow to shear off mailboxes along with their posts, and flip them end-over-end and send them for a good 50 feet or so.
Years ago I saw a driver clip off every mailbox along Ellicott Creek Rd., Tonawanda, NY. Damnest thing I ever seen. Wish I had a video of it.
I know a guy who used to be a wing man on an Oshkosh plow truck. It was a two man crew, one drove and the other operated the plow levers.
He said that by the time you hit the third mailbox, you're laughing so hard that you can't hang on to the levers anymore.

It actually does have a little bit of a bulldog look to it.
