The tach on my 88 MH stopped working recently.  I noticed the inside of the tach drive on the engine was worn out and the end of the tach cable wasn't really grabbing enough to turn the tachometer.

I called several Mack dealers and said replacement tach gears weren't available.  Thank god for ebay NOS parts that still pop up from time to time!

Looking at the pic you can maybe tell how worn out the old one is inside. I also replaced the cable with a NOS i found on ebay also.

Got the new drive gear in. Everything works like its supposed too now.

Iubed all the new and old cables and connectors up with this grease.  Shop that rebuilds speedos and cables recommended it in case anyone is ever interested in what grease is supposed to be used on the tach/speedo cables.

Dont mind Joseph there, hes just here to help.

does Joseph pick up your parts and run off with them.  One of mine did that up til a couple years ago.

Yes he does!

Hes a English lab and loves to fetch things even when I didn't throw them. I have to watch him around anything with a good chewable handle on it. Hes a great buddy tho and a heck of a shop dog lol
