With old equipment, it can be interesting to determine because what may have been done to the vehicle by previous "mechanics". If the battery jumper cable goes from pos to neg you will get 24 volts out of two twelve volt batteries. If two or more 12 volt batteries have the jumper wire going pos to pos or neg to neg, than you still have 12 volt but much more capacity. Quote JimIt doesn't cost anything to pay attention.
