Removing steering wheel

Recommended Posts

Best way I know is to loosen nut behind wheel(ah, well, the little hex not the driver LOL). Leave it on the end of the threads to protect them. Have someone lift up on the wheel and someone smack the top of the threaded shaft with a BFH. Should "pop" it loose. Maybe a touch of PB blaster to help it along. MIght take a few shots, but likely come right off. I have only removed one wheel like that and it was on a loose steering box in the garage.

Don't think the column actually comes off the box, so you'll have to drop the box off the frame and lower the column down through the floor.

Hi Larry,

Recognized your B61 from Wellington where we spoke a few minutes last September. Your suggestion sounds good, i'll try it, thanks. Yes, I imagine the housing comes off while the steering "rod" remains attached to the box. I just want enough room to paint the interior the original green instead of the red someone before me did.
