  1. I've got a '77 R-600 that I bought not to long ago, that although it is retired I would like to have it play on a dump trailer once in a while. It does not have a power divider air valve in the cab, which leads me to believe it does not have a power divider, but a friend tells me that Macks did not need dividers, they are always locked in (???) Right or wrong?
  2. I have to agree with Superdog, If you don't have to sell it, don't. You'll never find another like it. I'd retire it and take it out to play on nice days. Believe me, I've been there. Ican now only wish I had the things I've sold or turned down!!!!
  3. Don't forget, this is a TV show, if you don't sensationalize things nobody will watch. I'm all for taking a humble old girl and restoring and even dolling up a little. But like on all the other "reality" shows if you don't make it totally outlandish (scripted comes to mind) it will only appeal to those who really appreciate a nice old truck, and unfortunately there is only a small number of us, and we don't have the numbers to keep the ratings up.
  4. I gotta say, considering what they have done to some , it's not bad. Sometimes the KISS (keep it simple stupid) technique works very well. Of course we don't know what they did under the hood, but outside looks pretty good.
  5. Antique Truck Show, Uncle Sam Chapter,ATCA. Washington Couty Fairgrounds, Greenwich, NY.Trucks tractors even classic cars we love to see 'em. 9 to 4 rain or shine. Call Perry Young at (518) 677-2717 or Clarence Ritchie at (518) 642-9437 for more information.
  6. Doug, to you and the whole crew at the National meet, GREAT JOB!!!! This was our 2nd year and it was better than the first. One thing for sure, we'll be back!!!
  7. Was there myself, although we were late getting there,(11:00 Sat.) was still impressed. Reliable rumor had it there were 590+/- trucks, and they all looked great. What a great show, nice job ATCA!!
  8. I saw the '77 R-600 at a truck show, with a for sale sign on it, but nobody was around. I took down the number and called it when I got home. Ended up leaving a message because nobody answered. After a couple of weeks I tried again, and again left a message. After a couple of more tries I gave up, never any return call. Two years later, one day at work, I got a phone call. I am the shop manager at a local school bus garage, it was one of those days, it was right about lunch time, and the phone rang,"This is -------- " right away my thought was "ugh, another salesman," and right at lunch break, I almost hung up! Well, the "salesman" went on to say that he had a Mack that was for sale and that I was one of 4 people who had left messages two years ago and he had made up his mind that he was really going to sell and that I was the first one that he called. Talk about fate! It had sat for the two years, outside not run. I went to look at it. It still looked pretty good but the batterries were stone dead. I made an offer but he really didn't like what I offered. He promised to put new batteries in it if I would listen to it run and make another offer. Meanwhile I called a friend who knows Macks real well, told him about it, seems as though he knew the truck from the day it was bought. "If you don't buy it I will" was his reaction. Well, I went back, we got it running, and I fell in love. Well even though I bought it for $2000.00 more than I originally offered, I have been offered more than $3000.00 more than I paid for it. I think I'll keep it around for awhile.......I wouldn't sell my old family dog either. He's priceless, too
  9. Here in the State of Confusion (NYS) there doesn't seem to be a weight limit. I have my '77 R-600 registered historical, the girls at DMV asked ME if they could do that but after some phone calls, it all happened without a hitch. Ihook my drop deck up to her and load up my two restored Farmalls and take the whole mess to shows and the like without a problem. I've rolled right into inspection stations and been given the thumbs up and waved right through, so it's either my boyish good looks(ha-ha) or they don't have a problem with the set-up
  10. I've seen some pretty sweet old B models, but the R's of the late 70's and 80's, I ran a '74 R-600 for ten years and just short of 750,000 miles. It always got me home. About a year and a half ago I found a '77 R-600 with 148,000 original miles on it, was like finding an old friend. Obviously, I bought it!
  11. I asked our local Mack Parts guy and all I got was an "I dunno, go on line and see if you can find one." Lotta help that was!!!
  12. Since you are from Mass. you must be familiar with the former H.W. Webster Stores, A.K.A Blue Seal Feeds, We ran R-600 tri-axels for a long time. Believe me those old top heavy tankers would humble you real quick, but they would go anywhere, give 'em h**l you won't have any trouble.
  13. I have run into some discussion on whether or not Mack actually had an AM-FM radio for a 77 R-600 and now that it has come up, I can't remember. Any body out there have a bettter memory than I do?
