  1. Hello! I'm not sure, but I'd say you have to put some load on the engine, otherwise you have no chance to get the exhaust temperature high enough. Once I had a similar situation (OK, with a Skoda!), and I had to go out on a highway and while my buddy was driving I was connected to the car with a service computer and had to tip in a "secret code" for the burning to start. From then on it worked fine. Good luck and have a nice day Paweł
  2. Yeah, once I was driving behind an european tractor that was bobtailing. Everytime now and then he was spinning his rear wheels, that was a little scary!
  3. 84superdog - you say it so often I'm getting used to that thought, which is a good thing :-) I'd suggest you start taking pictures of your machine right away! And I mean guts - the radiator, insides of the hood, under the cab - stuff like that. We could write a book about modelling the Superliner together! Thanks for your comments and have a nice day Paweł
  4. Hello everybody! Thanks a lot for your comments! Paul - I'm glad I could show you something new to you. That's what models are good for! Matt - yeah, and it took me a great deal of researching to get it right! Timothy, Superdog - thank you for your kind words, gentlemen! Thanks for reading and have a nice day Paweł
  5. Thanks a lot, other dog! Very interesting photos, especially that partially disassembled one. So now if anybody has some photos of the old D7E, I would appreciate them a lot! Thanks again and have a nice day Paweł
  6. Hello! Well I sure would like to know what the pros say here, too! As an engineer the first thing to say would be: Good for what? Short wheelbase could potentially make tighter turns possible. Longer wheelbase would probably make the rig more stable when going straight. Then again - longer frame means more weight you're carrying with you that you have to pay for. That's physics - but there are also regulations, so that also depends on where you're going to use the truck. Anyhow - welcome to the forums, and have a nice day Paweł
  7. other dog - are those old dozers D7's or D8's? Could you take some close-ups of them for me? Some day I'd like to build a model of a Vietnam-era Rome plow and the references are pretty hard to come by. Thanks a lot in advance and have a nice day Paweł
  8. Larry - thanks a lot! gearhead204 - thanks for your comment! I agree with you - those air brakes are no longer healthy... But then look at my baby - does that bulkhead look right without all that spaghetti? I say no. Would like to put at least SOMETHING there, but I know it won't look right before I understand the machine and what is going on there. Thanks for reading and have a nice day Paweł
  9. Hello! I've been fighting with the air brake plumbing for some time. Neil (fifth wheel) helped me a lot - thanks again Neil! I'm basing my build on the photos of Neal's truck. For now I installed the threadle valve and the quick release valve for the front axle: I also tried to build the double check valves and the stoplight switch: Unfortunately in the end they turned out to be still too big... I wil have to do something more simplified to squeeze it in by the cab mount - oh well, happens all the time! So thanks for reading and have a nice day Paweł
  10. Hello Vlad! Beautiful pictures and some really classy trucks there! I just wonder, why did they put the national star upside down on the door of that Mack in the first pictures? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day Paweł
  11. Ron, Ken - thanks a lot for your comments and for your kind words! Have a nice day! Paweł
  12. Hello! I was struggling recently, so trying to break through the crisis I built a detail that was pointed out to me by 85snowdog - thanks a lot, Keith! That's the clutch cable. Somehow this detail doesn't show in other truck models? Well, it's present in my model. It's also mighty hard to find a good photo reference of this one on the net. Anyway, here it is: Did I get it right? Sure do hope so, thanks for reading and have a nice day Paweł
  13. Hello! Great work on the truck! I'd also recommend some other colour than black - how do you feel about red or gold? As for the radiator - it works better if it's black, so you best make an exception here. Good luck with your project and have a nice day Paweł
  14. I wish you good luck with your truck, Vinny! Have a nice day Paweł
  15. Hello! Vlad - thanks a lot for your comment! To tell you the truth, I don't feel like modifying the wheels... But I might try the idea with those wheel nuts - have to come up with an idea on how to do it nicely. Vinny - sorry to hear about your problems. Is it more a leak of some kind or do you have missing components? Maybe you could post a thread with pictures in the Air&Brakes section of the forums - I could get a look at how it looks like in your truck and somebody could help you to solve the issue? Thanks again for your comments, have a nice day Paweł
  16. Hello! Agreed - just getting an air brake schematic for a tractor isn't so easy If somebody has such a schematic please post it here! Thanks in advance, have a nice day Paweł
  17. Hello Vlad! I want to finish it soon, too! I hope to put the cab on the chassis permanently soon and then I'll work some more under the hood. Thanks for your help and please stay tuned! Have a nice day Paweł
  18. Hello Vlad! Very good info here - thanks a lot! I already tried to build a valve like that, but now that I have new info, I think I'm going to refine it. Could anybody please help me with which line goes where? I'm especially interested in the lines that go into the cab. Thanks a lot in advance and have a nice day Paweł
  19. feticello122, Vinny, Superdog - thanks a lot for your kind words! Vinny, Superdog - would you be so kind as to post some photos of the treadle valve of your trucks here? I'm desperately trying to figure out the brake lines that run from there. Thanks in advance and have a nice day Paweł
  20. Hello! It's been a while! I finally found my men-up pills and glued the exhaust stack guards to the cab. I also experimented with the cab mounts and so finally I dry - fitted the cab to the chassis: Pleased to report, that the hood meets with the cab OK. Looking under the hood - I also managed to mate the exhaust to the turbocharger: Before I glue the cab on I would like to sort out at least some of the lines on the firewall. I even posted a separate thread asking for help, here: http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/35368-brake-system-components-on-a-r-model-cab-please-help/ But if you have any photos showing how the air lines go from the treadle valve back into the cab, you're more than welcome to post them here, too! There is also a check valve and brake light switch somewhere - wonder if it could be shown on my model. I also plan adding the clutch linkage. So - back to the workshop, thanks for reading and have a nice day Paweł
  21. Keith - thanks a lot for the picture! It's really valuable to me - you don't find a photo of a detail like that on the internet! You're right, I'm going for the detail. My model has a Cummins Big Cam II and a Fuller Roadranger tranny. I have to look at the clutch some more. So thanks again and have a nice day Paweł
  22. Hello Keith! Thanks a lot, very good info. Do you happen to have any pics of this area? Thanks again and have a nice day Paweł
  23. OK - can somebody tell me, what that thick pipe is, running parallel and under the "3" arrow, parallel to the steering shaft? It shows white on the photo I posted. I'm guessing it's the speedometer drive shaft - is that right? Where does it go on the other end? Thanks in advance and have a nice day Paweł
  24. Hello! Does anybody have a picture or a drawing that would show a Cat dozer (preferrably D7D or D7E) from the underside? Such pics are very hard to come by. And I'm not sure I understand well how the rails around which the tracks go attach to the body of the dozer. I believe there's a spring under the hull front - how does it look like? Thanks in advance, have a nice day Paweł
  25. Vlad - thanks again for your help and for the photos. The first one you posted - I already looked at it, but couldn't quite figure it out. The second one helps a lot. turckster - thanks a lot! Can anyone tell me the exact designation on the threadle and check valves on the Superliner? Or maybe someone could post some more photos here? Thanks in advance and have a nice day Paweł
