  1. yer used to drive a 1972 r 600 carting logs back wheels would come out a full tyre width when cornering good in the mud never caused any dramas we used to call it walk about suspension passed regerstration every year no problem 4 the six years I drove it so I don't think u have a lot to b concerned about regards ray
  2. hi Paul just seen pictures of your truck nice solid old workhorse u can't go wrong with then beat them around all day every day still come back 4 more they will still be going when a lot of newer stuff has layed down boss used to say even when they brake a leg they still limp home pretty well sums them up, they look good painted up also. good luck with it - Ray
  3. yer there is a long shaft pump and a short shaft at least on the 285 coolpower motors had one start leaking bad so mechanic orders one in puts it on every thing is running out of alignment by a couple of inches pull it back off and compare it to old pump which which is a couple inches shorter shaft just another trap when your not in the know regards ray
  4. yer I would go 4 the 12 speed but be carefull early ones are only low and direct on air switch later ones direct and overdrive a gear 4 every situation I found better behind the 237 the coolpowers seem to fall on there backside under 1400 rpm a note on the 6 speed the one I drove was overdrive box 2 stick passenger side stick was direct neutral and overdrive stick closest to driver standard h pattern reverse 1 2 3 4 5 wind it up before shifting into overdrive was a big gap cheers ray
  5. yer good 1 log loads in that area from memory 142 l one log loads off the same dump 18 meters legal load they were 25 meters logs used all back roads to avoid scallies the picture of white mack the road fell away coming up out of there had to get bulldozer up behind to push her out ray
  6. that's hoe the boss felt Paul, sad part is I got put into a 1984 mack, no where as good up in the hilly country a bit faster on flat country new driver in old 237 done 2 loads and lost of logs flattened the cab level with chassis which also twisted like a piece of spaghetti driver jumped out reckon he would have been killed if he didn't it was a complete wreck bent twisted broken every part engine block snapped in half any way (picture of it, the white one) when I drove it. The green one is the newer one I spent the next 4 years driving. cheers Ray.
  7. I would keep it they are almost bullet proof drove a 1975 model logging in some very hostile places for 6 years in Australia 237 engine 2 stick 6 speed only had a alternator catch fire bearings collapsed in it still made it to the worksop half hour to put another one on and back to work the boss had 5 newer macks not a patch on this one he said if he could still buy these new he would buy as many as he could get cheers ray
