Thank you, thank you, thank you, these are the diagrams I've been looking for. I'll double check the spaghetti line placement in diagram 1 tomorrow. I installed all new o rings in diagram 3, purchased them as a kit. Diagram 2 & 4 looking for a rebuild kit, just haven't come across it yet. Thanks

Easy to find online, just google it..good luck.

The trunnion cap  and seal on the oil style is different and was only offered for a short while  and It was  absolute mistake DONT GO THERE! The greased trunnion will self vent thru the back via the back seal its a one way check valve in its self putting the vent on the cap is OK how ever we used to put a grease nipple there and push grease thru there this forced the grease right thru the flutes in the brass bushing out the back , for  those the lazy ones that wouldn't jack the truck up ,  it would at least get some grease! just how we would do things !

    My opinion!

The seal is also diffrent on the inside its an actual oil seal

    That totally makes sense..

Macks..  I would think in a perfect world, it woud be ok..  But, when I started to fix these Dogs 23 years ago,  We only put grease in them.. grease is nothing more than oil and a thickener..  Im sure you have seen the back side of a saddle when the truck is sitting, and the lower edge of the saddle is right up to the flange on the trunnion tube.  Which means the brass bushing is worn and the trunnion bar is flattened on the bottom.   My point here is...  how could oil stay in there?  the rubber seal is just pushed in by hand, so it's not a press fit..  anyway..  with all the postings on this...  to me ...  none of us is wrong or not knowing...  I'm just happy that there are this many guys that actually grease the trunnions..  and coversations like this will help someone get more life out of their camel back suspension..  jojo

My thoughts exactly, bran new ok but a little worn,no way,I’ll just keep on pumping grease but I will now jack up the back axel like the book says, well at least sometimes ..lol

What year is that book MACKS?  I like it, and hadnt seen that info before...   Thanks,, jojo

1985,so what do u think about gear oil or some other liquid type lube in there, would it even stay in and obviously any grease u pump in there will mix with it right..

Well we are all learning things today

Thanks for sharing that, Im guessing everyone just pulls the plug out and bunged what ever they thought was right in there

    Paul

It also says to jack up rear axle to remove the load on the bushing before servicing..

So I've decided to go ahead and have axle surgeon come out to replace the tube . I appreciate all the insight. And yes taking the weight off is the best way to get that grease all the way around the tube and saddle.

Good for you, that’s the way to go,get it done right and don’t look back..

Am I to understand the proper way to grease a camelback is to jack up on the frame so the suspension and axles are "hanging" off the frame with no weight bearing on them, and grease that way? Or are you saying to place the jack on the A frame tube just inboard of the U bolts and jack from there until the wheels are off the ground? I truly don't know. I have always just greased with the truck sitting on the ground normally.

Same here,if the bushings and bar are not worn what good would it do since there is zero movement plus there are grooves cut  in the bushings for the grease to flow into and move all around the bar,I just grease the chit out of mine and yes it gets past the seal and even squirts outofthe trunnion cap a little, works for me she’s tight as a drum..

So by looking at those two pictures above

It looks like none of the small bits have O rings to seal them up, is this correct ?

If so I  gather this means once they are worn they go in the rubbish bin

Or is there rebuild kits and how would someone check these are or are not working as they should

I think I might have to get my workshop manual out for these, I  have looked before many years ago but I seam to recall it was pretty vague, mind the way my head has been of late it could be I just dont remember

It would be good to have Dynatard that actually works

I reckon reading in the advertising blerb it was like 400 hp of braking effort on the E6, might of been the E9

Either way I reckon that should still be a lot more noticeable than just making the noise

    Paul

Well keep us posted, would love to have a decent engine brake on my 96 cl,as I said it’s pretty useless as is..

starting fluid ;; old school , didn't think that technic was allowed or used anymore. very light on the spray also. have to be cautious suggesting that type of test in todays world. too much or spray hitting hot exhaust will change purpose of test and fire extinguish test will take place. or inventory check on first aid kit.

    Well that’s me,old school..😏

my problem was the opposite. background noise blocked out close conversations.

they are currently set to block background noise around 50% so i hear everything about equal.

What brand did u get,the over the counter hearing aids from Bose popped up on my f book feed recently,Bose always made decent stuff..🤷‍♂️
