I think the only proprietary thing is the actual diagnostic software, and how it implements with the manufacturers documentation/parts catalog like Impact or any other software bells and wistles their software has. The SAE 1708/1587 standards are not proprietary, you can actually purchase the standard from SAE and read just how every parameter has to communicate. If the diagnostics were truly proprietary down to the design on the ECU, nobody but the vehicle manufacterer would be able to make diagnostic software/hardware. I believe the DOT mandated heavy vehicle manufacterers adopt this standard in order to prevent such things from happening.

There is the "hackster" community that has been growing very rapidly in he past 10 years with the introduction of very cheap microcontrollers iike the arduino and rasperry pi boards. A lot of open source software and hardware makes it possible to make these "toys" with a little know how for very low cost. that ELM325 chip is only $10! Pretty crazy if you ask me

I know but why does it have to be an underground world.  I don't think they could do anything about it if someone developed their own interface.  I looked into this before and remember reading where unless renewed the proprietary rights expire in 20 years?  I really don't know much about it, just find it interesting.

    Yup

lol...I knew they were.  I ask two mechanics to check them out.  My new now ex mechanic that would help out from time to time and I had it at the mack dealer for pooter updates and ask them to check them out. Both said they looked fine.  It's really hard to find good help these days!

  3. UPDATE!  I messed with this for a while before giving up a replacing the air manifold on the firewall.  Got the quick connects out of the manifold and the o ring.  Cleaned it all up, trimmed up the lines etc. and I believe if I could have found the exact o ring I could have repaired it, but good luck with that.  The o rings get hard and crack.   Went all over north Alabama looking for that thing. If its not perfect it will not seal off.

  4. Good afternoon!  Having problems with my 05 CV713 AMI 370. Just started all the sudden and seems to be related to the windshield wipers? Sounds crazy but I got in it this morning it started fine, turned it off came back would not crank.  I get power with switch on to dash, everything except wiper motor. Messed with it all day, thought I found a bad switch connection at solenoid and put a new connector on it, started up and wipers worked fine.  Shut it off and came back a few minutes later it started up but when I went to turn the wipers on I got a lighting bolt, not wipers with 1-6 code, no power to starter. lighting bolt only comes on when you try to turn wipers on, turn wiper switch off lighting bolts goes off but still have problem. Turned it off and now it will not start again and no power to wiper motors.  Solenoid is good/new and you can jump it and it'll start right up.  Any clues???  Anyone??

Time to come over to the dark-side :SMOKIE-LFT:  and drive a truck that makes Prius drivers swear out loud?

The payback is that you won't have to shift that T300 Mack transmission so much. AMI-370 is a good program and candidate.

Yes sir I'm very impressed and really appreciate that thread!  I've got to see if it'll be worthy. Got a few repairs and adjustments first and that was the plan all along.   Might be my winter project.

Your OCD getting rubbed raw on that AI engine? Or liking it?

It's not bad.  Seems to have plenty of power on the top side but a little sluggish coming out of the hole. If I'm loaded and on a slight incline it seems to want the low gear to get going and it's supposed to have 4.64 rears.  The mack trans is what I'm not thrilled about, it's a lot different than the Eaton fuller 8LL in my CH.

  7. I do a lot of sight work and the extra foot print would be helpful.  After several phone calls and emails I did find out what the off set should be.  For an 05 Granite CV713 with 18k fronts it's 2.75".  Depending on your set up it could be different.  I found this website to show the side by side difference in tire sizes https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=315-80r22.5-385-65r22.5 . There's not a huge difference between the two.

Extra temps caused by the charge cooler maybe caused manifold studs to loosen a little, causing the exh manifold gasket to leak? My old 2 valve endt676 motor is notorious for having the exhaust manifold nuts loosen. Been a while since the truck has had the lock tabs on it. Glad you're running again!

    Great looking dog too!

Thanks!  I agree with you too.  It only makes sense.Wished I'd thought about some lock tabs, at least all my studs came out and I got some new ones back in.  Might pick up some locks later and put em on.

Happy 4th of July to everyone!  God Bless America!

Pull your valve covers, maybe you have a bent exhaust valve not closing all the way. With engine running, apply pressure to each rocker and see if somebody isn't working right... A quick visual comparison can quickly rule out potential mechanical failures. A valve not closing would also let combustion continue in the exhaust pipe, which would be hotter than completed combustion. And it'd probably sound like an exhaust leak. Because it kinda is.

Did you check the intake with pressure or just with soapy water?

I went ahead and took it to my mechanic. I didn't have the time to pull the covers but I'm leaning toward a bent valve or something to do with the Jake.  The drive is about 45 min and the warmer the engine got the worse it ran.  The cold start was  good. Made me think might of had a stuck valve that unstuck but the further I got down the road the worse it got.

I did not use soapy water on the intake side.  It was more of a visual, touch and feel, and not to mention the old dollar bill for vacuum leaks.

I'll post what he finds when I hear something. As always I appreciate everyone's help.
