Yes Sir, you are quite right. This all goes back to Mr. Newton, "Every action has a reaction, equal in force but opposite in direction." Very often, experience is the best teacher. You can tell a child, " don't mess with a dog while it's eating." but until it experiences the reaction, your advice will likely be ignored. A truck can be a pleasure to operate, but unequally dangerous. I shall be forevermore thankful to those who have given me the true value of their own experiences, along with their advice. " Don't mess with a dog while it's eating, watch your overhead for power lines and cables, get your rig level before raising the hoist, make sure the safety is unlatched, etc etc." Safety around equipment should be everyone's concern, without having to worry about offending someone.
From my aviating days, this was my ruling guidline;
"Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect."
This applies to everything in life.

I like that Old Iron, it's easier for my old eyes to read!
Ditto.

DOES ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR REPLACING 4" AIR INTAKE HOSE, (FROM MANIFOLD, TO FIREWALL), HAVING TROUBLE LOCATING ITEM. FOR 59 B61. THX, RUSTY
I used a little lateral thinking in my B61 and used 4" SCAT/SCEET aircraft hose.
It's fairly cheap, can tolerate heat and is reinforced and flexible.
What more could a man want??? (well..........)

I've been told that the wiring is VERY IMPORTANT to the accuracy of the gauge.
Searching the net it shows wire of 5ft and 10ft (I think). It must not be cut shorter.
Comments??? Rod.

Hi Guys. I would like to get a couple of Mack 12AK2189 rim clamps if anyone has any lying around in their shed.
Thanks. Rod.

I have been traveling about 160 miles per day pulling 49000 pound loads. Prior to that i was running empties and lighter loads locally. I figure it is the differance in the weight of the loads but just wanted to be sure someone is not stealing fuel from me or that it could be due to engine problems.
Personally I think your last statement is a distinct possibility.
Can you use a dipstick and check your levels after a run and before your next one. Do this over a lot of runs.
Most of my mates reckon they are more fuel efficient with a load ON.
You may have a fuel leak, but this would be evident, so check the underside of the bonnet (hood), all around and under the engine.

Looks good, But does it work well as a walking platform behind a cab? Also can it be obtained here in the states.
Thank you!
mike
I have the aluminium as a walking platform behind the cab and I made mudguards for the rears from steel checkerplate.
Good material - looks good.

Hi Thad,
DownUnder, we call it Checker Plate (or Checkerplate).
In Google, just type in "checkerplate" to see images.

has anybody had an experance with this stuff? http://www.dynamat.com/index.html would it still be worth painting it with lizardskin and some layers of dynamat?
Thanks Monty
Hi Monty. I've put dynamat on my firewall and under the floor.
To be honest, I cannot notice the difference. Still insert earplugs and wear earmuffs.

I have been threatened within an inch of my life if I do that naming thing after her. I tell you, "no sense of humor sometimes" with that woman.
Man's Best Friend
A dog is truly a man's best friend. If you don't believe it, just try this experiment: Put your dog and your wife in the boot of the car for an hour. Then open the boot and see which one is really happy to see you!
Rob, please don't tell her this joke. Believe me they DO NOT have a sense of humour.

Hi and welcome.
I've spent a couple of days (there were no nights ) in Anchorage and also a beautiful place called Nome.
Fantastic part of the world you have. So different from DownUnder Australia.

Rob said;
"Buy American my ASS! I've tried to. Corporate greed has made in nearly impossible to support our own. Amazing that it is less expensive, or more profitable to manufacture these items half way around the world, ship them that far, and have an acceptable margin of profit."
Could not have said it better myself. We will live to regret this CORPORATE GREED. It will come back soon and bite us all in a BIG way. Prepare!!!
We (countries) should look after our own!
As a side issue, our local country town supermarket has just installed 6 self-serve checkouts.
Supermarket giant can't understand why our local community is boycotting them. Hello.... we want jobs for ourselves and our kids.

Hi Barry, Can we have a link to the Mack Museum added (probably under the LINKS section).
I think this would be invaluable for guys researching their trucks.
Thanks. Rod.
-
Did you make the sun viser or was it on the truck before,? i like the era looking ones, i am going to try to make one out of stainless one of these days
I bought the sunvisor from a local manufacturer here in Sydney. I think they are a must - look good too.
-
Wow...didn't even catch that.
Really sad, as I've never really though about it, though my locks work well I know the vent windows are easy picken's to get into these trucks. Are you at a show? or is that the resident parking spot? I could see if it was well a traveled area that you want security.
Yes, it was at a truck show. Obviously, when I'm in attendance, the truck is open and I encourage people to actually hop up and sit in the old girl.
So many people can relate to a B61..."my dad used to drive these"....."I had an uncle who owned one".....are common comments, so if people can see and touch a bit of family history, then they are really pleased.
But if I need to go for a wander ie toilet break, I lock her up.
At home, no locking is required. We have a very good "neighbourhood watch" (my neighbour is an old bikie leader ).

Hi Rod. What is the cable around the door handle for? To keep "onlookers" out?
Rob
Correct, Rob. A length of stainless steel wire encased in plastic and padlocked to the muffler upright support.
Things have been known to "walk" so when I'm away from the old girl, I lock her up.
The door key locks work (sort of), but I don't want to be stranded with a broken key in the lock, so this is a very acceptable alternative.
Well spotted. I've also seen other oldies with this method used.

Very artistic Darren. Thank you.
I know the owner of the Trident in the background of photo 1.

C'mon "Mates", we have to put ourselves on THE MAP (see Site Related Topics - the top one is pinned).
At the present time, there are only 3 of use on the Aussie map.
We have to show our "American friends" that WE are a FORCE to be contended with
Just remembered what will repel them - VEGEMITE
Blimey, they are talking about visiting and one guy (maybe more) is even immigrating
We love our sunburnt country (even the GAFA), so let's show them where it is.
We can do it.

I live in NJ and will be moving to the central coast in NSW with in a few months time. I have been working on a 1970 R-400 for the last 5 years and was wondering if they ever made any 400s down-under and if it would be worth it to ship it over Thanks Pete.
Hi Pete, Sorry, I can't answer your question re R-400, but you and your Mack are most welcome.
As it is a 1970 model, you would be eligible to keep it left hand drive, and conditional registration (ie historic) if you joined a club. (registration is then about AUD55).
I live just south of Sydney, but there are quite a few Mack guys up where you are going.
Good Move
