  1. I had just fired her up to move her from one shop to the other, and as soon as I had air pressure I noticed a pool of green coolant on the shop floor. I shut down and inspected all the usual things without avail. Absolutely no history of leaks or running hot- this all of a sudden. Really good size leak too. I finally trace it to the top of the engine- where the two valve covers meet in the middle of the head- there is maybe a quarter of an inch space here- and the fuel infector lines run thru the top of this space. Water seems to be hemorrhaging between these valve covers. Anybody seen this before?? Does it mean I've got a head gasket blown (no other indicators of that-yet)? Is ther a freeze plug in this location I can't see?

    Any help would be appreciated- I'd really like to run this thing to Cookville later this month.

    Hi Dale, You may want to check if your engine has a water gallery (for want of a better word) that runs the length of the engine, between the inlet manifold and the heads. Mine does and right in the middle of this gallery is a rubber joiner about 2" long and about 2 1/2" in diameter. I know because mine has just started to leak and I will have to replace it very soon. If the bonnet (hood) is still on, you may have to use a mirror to see what I'm describing.

    Hope it's only a minor hiccup for you.

  2. OUCH!!!  Them gassers were killers!!!!

    My B gets around 9-10 bobtailing and 8 or so with trailer.  That is very liveable for me....especially for a 45 yr old truck.

    Just done a big trip in my B61, which I have just got (historically) registered and I'm happy.

    It gave me approx 7.7 mpg (US) or 9.3 mpg (imp) or 30 litres/100km.

    All this bobtailing, Duplex and 20inch tyres. Max speed 36mph (60kph). Smokin'

  4. On Sunday, 28th Aug 2005, The National Road Transport Hall of Fame, situated in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia, celebrated its 10th anniversary.

    According to newspaper reports;

    "Thousands of people lined the Stuart Highway... to watch what trucking enthusiasts have dubbed the largest transport parade in Australian history."

    Up to 10,000 visitors were expected to hit town for the parade of more than 500 trucks tipped to be up to 12km (7 miles) long.

    It was expected that the parade would take up to two and a half hours to finish.

    As a very proud participant of that parade, I must say it was mind-blowing. Spectators lined both sides of the Highway.

    There were approx 40 B Model Macks there in all their glory.

    I have posted some photos in my gallery, but don't know how to place a link here.

    Regards to all from Down Under.

    Comments: Recently in my restoration of my B61 I have had to call (by email) on Barry from Watt's Mack for parts.

    The service I received was second to none, considering these were international orders.

    Thanks Barry for excellent service.

  6. Guys

    I have a similar problem with my driver's door (RHS in Australia!).  Have half done it and got all of the window down but....

    Glad I read this post, it looks like I have a couple of little things to do to get it right.  Was following instructions that were slightly off!  :pat:

    Hi Andy, Will we see you sand gropers at The Alice in 2 weeks time? Hope so.

    Regards, Rod.

  7. Hi all. I have a 673P and have a sneaky suspicion that diesel fuel is making it's way into the oil system. The oil seems to be thinner and sump quantity increases.

    I may be seeing things, but has anybody else experienced this? I have just had my injector pump overhauled, so I don't suspect this.

    Comments?

    Regards, Rod.

  8. Hi George. I've just taken both of mine out to replace the glass for my rejuvenation.

    The only thing I would add to the above suggestions are;

    1) I found no need to remove the inner door handle and window winder. They come out with the panel.

    2) DO NOT remove any of the screws around the window winder or along the centre of the panel (I did and then found that these held the winding mechanism all in place). Just remove the screws AROUND the panel.

    Regards, Rod.
