  1. You're preaching to the choir, my friend. Driving a VW diesel every weekend to Maryland when my mother wa dying, the tolls were as much as the fuel for a 600 mile round trip. Try having a 4 BR house on Long Island 2 car garage (separate) on a 100x170 piece of land and paying $9000/yr in taxes. Looking outside Chatanooga a few yrs ago and saw a bigger house, smaller land half the price and 1/7 the taxes. 5 1/2 to retire. I count the days. And VERY happy I don't have to pay these thieving tolls with an 18 wheler.
  2. I find it odd that is is under $1/mile. Unless he is fitting something else on it and squeezing it tight, I dont see how either. And I try to be honest and explain that the thieving Govt agencies here charge up to $14 per axle over the George Washington Bridge and $7.50/axle to cross the bridges to Long Island. I CANNOT wait to retire and get the Hell out of NY.
  3. Would I have to swap rims for that, though? I was under the impression I would need tube tires for these types of rims.
  4. Made in 67, I think it carries a 1968 model year. I am told this is THE FIRST CF open cab made and the first with a diesel .That "roof" and side windows are bolted on and will be removed. I have an estimate of $2700 to ship her home. May have the dealer selling it do the fluids, belts and stuff. He is glad its going to a good home and I may get a break on that work. Now if anyone in the NYC area has a place to store it, you can let me know on that as well. My FDNY CF is next up to go for repairs. May need that trucked to Hagerstown, MD. They are 11R22.5 tubed tires. Anyone have a place to get them cheap, I'd appreciate it. Stay safe.
  5. Hey, guys. Looking to buy an antique on the West Coast. while I am told the rig runs great, I would like the fluids changed, belts changed and a good look around. Shipping may be a tad expensive, so I may drive it back East. (It's diesel....lol) If I can get a god price on transport (low boy, train, etc.) drop me a line. P.S. Moderators if this is in wrong thread, plase move and accept my aplogies. P.S.S. It is a MACK...
  6. I think Rockville had a sedan cab.
  7. A POS. We are our own worst enemy. I cannot wait to leave NY. Maybe we will read how all those illegal guns were turned in by criminals in Chicago due to their having to go to jail for having illegal weapons. Yea, right. However, Texas aint taking no crap. A politician there named Toth wants to pass a law giving state law enforcement powers to arrest Federal officials should they try to arrest a Texan for weapons, should the moron in DC pass his BS laws. Now THAT'S the Americans we need.
  8. Then they're must have been 2..lol. There was a red an white B sedan tandem axle identical to that sitting in that lot. Obviously, paint was faded to boot.
  9. Was this the rig sitting on the Suffern/Mahwah border (rt 202, I think) right before the underpass?
  10. Thanks, Paul. But the vehicle must be registered and driveable. And I think its too big for them. A guy from my VW club restored a car there. Would love to do it there ... Thanks again.
  11. I'll check that tomorrow, thanks. My pal is going to bring a few filters and a pressure fitting or something like that to cover the gas cap and I would assume (Yes,I know) it will push the fuel up ( I was only paying half attention to what he was saying as I was driving). If I cannot get the bodywork done, I may either sell or scrap it. I would much rather not, but I have no time, tools or talent to do it. I was recommended to a big diesel/collision tech school in Cleveland, Ohio from the school outside Pittsburgh. Seems PA Dept of Ed. removed rust removal from its curriculum. Many thanks for the offer, but it's on Long Island, NY. in western Suffolk. Unless you have a weekend to kill (I'll pick up the hotel bill..) it may be kind of far.
  12. Thanks, Brother. I do hope you are wrong, but only for my sake..lolol. I have talked to an FDNY mechanic and my buddy who works on almost anything and everything. Varies from replacing all fuel filters to an air leak in fuel, to possibly losing prime. My request to have a vocational school do the body work struck out again. Trying one or 2 more places and hope I strike gold. But I would like the rig running good mechanically so it wont be a burden on the school... You're on deck, Paul..........lolol
  13. As usual, you guys are tops. I got in return for some services a FREE Interstate 8D-MHD battery. Connected it, second try started right up. Ran good for about 10 minutes (even for being started once in over a year), but then idled rough, white smoke out of the stack, then stalled. Would not crank over even spraying WD-40 down the air intake. Leaning towards air leak.... suggestions? Thanks again. I'm HOPING the arranngements I am making with a vocational school in Pa to do the body work comes through (though i know 41 Chevy can do it.....lolol). However, I would like to have it mechanically sound to drive it on the lowboy. Some posts on repair and restorations, you guys make it look so easy, but not my talent as much as I wish I could. So is it now an air leak?
  14. 2 cells read recharge after a long trickle charge. Other battery on trickle now. Will pick up at least one new battery tomorrow. And I read them wrong. 8D MHD. Interstate has them online 188 each Thanks for the help.
  15. Well, I still may need your help on the bodywork, paints covered....lolol. Anyway, busy as Hell and finally got the trickle charger on the battery. Got the hydrometer (thanks) and on each battery I had 2 cells in the recharge range. I know what the answer may be, so please forgive me for a stupid question. With the charger on 2 amps, the meter was reading between 75-100% the minute it was put on the battery, am I correct in thinking that is the % charged? I would think so. So even with approx. 25% to charge, 2 amps should not overheat the battery being the size that it is. I was told 2 days to charge it, but I am thinking that would be if it was dead? Again, forgive me for the dumb questions, I love cars and trucks but cant fix them. Thanks again.
  16. Could imagine what he would charge for my rig. But worth it. lol
  17. Get a hold of Mike @ FDNYTrucks.com. If theres a serial number one or both of you have, he can more than likely verify it. He is also on here as well. But he is basically the guru of Mack fire apparatus.
  18. Along with no place to put it. Next new set, I'll D/C them too. I'm told of an Interstate Battery outlet near me. Sort of like the Hostess thrift store, but for batteries and a big discount. I'll see how that pans out. Thanks for the tips. See ya on firepics. Stay safe, Brother.
  19. Ahhhhh, I have paint covered. Heavy stuff I agree. Working on an arrangement for a vocational school in PA. However, if it doesnt work out and your tools are portable...... lol. $ee what work$ out. Time doe$n't help either. And a Happy New Year to you and yours.
  20. Maybe the Mack Museum may have info?
  21. Wasn't aware of Westbury having a B. I don't recall seeing too many B's on Long Island with no doors. Bay Shore's HQ was kind of low so roofs were out , I was told. Both rigs had seats over the hosebed, however the other B 's seats were removed. Looking on the compartment door next to pump panel, the word "Penataquit" was over the "Hose Co. 1" still on it. I was told Valatie replaced the 500 tank with 1000. And thanks for the condolences. Wouldn't be a fireman today if it wasn't for him. If only he fixed Macks.....lolol
  22. Thanks, Paul. Hows your diesel and bodywork skills? lolol
  23. Originally 1 of 2 identical rigs ordered by Bay Shore. This went to Valatie, near Albany. Now Westbury's. My dad (RIP) used to drive this rig.
  24. Well, it was suggested to trickle charge both battteries over a 4 day span (2 days each). Put them in, and let it run. Odd thing was, one battery held a charge for a while, chargicator was 100%+ and rig still would not turn over. Was told one battery with 1400 cca should have did it.
