  1. Between the two, rather have the 71. The 53 series with the higher rpm range is just awful to hear.

    We had a couple of 671/238 in trucks had 353, 453 & 471 in equipment & a 8V71/318 In a truck . & ya after listening to both series on a daily basis for years i prefer a 71 . less of a squeal than the 53 series .

& the reason why i am half assed Hard of hearing now ..

You could often hear me say this @ home after being around the 74' GMC 9500 S/A Lowboy tractor or the burner(which had a 353 Jimmy) feeding a burn pit on a clearing job most of the day (@The dinner table @ home) WHAT DID YOU SAY ?? I STILL HEAR THAT 238 & 353 SCREAMING IN MY EARS!!! ;)

  3. The first time I'd ever even heard of this model was on the internet. The doors and dashboard from the 4200/4300 give the appearance of an early 9670.

It doesn't look like it sits all that low.

Jim the 1st time i herd of this model IH Was on the Net also . Matter fact looking @ the pics Tom posted here maybe the pics i seen on the net possibly on FB ? Hell i dont know i slept since then ..lol .

Mike i'm guessing here but with a 903 Cummins i guess they would have a 13spd behind them in this model also ?.

  4. Thanks For the Info PZ .

Im not big on Cab overs unless they are low like an MR/MC Mack or a White Xpeditor.

Due to the fact of a Mild case of CP In my left side makes it tough for me to get in & out of a C/O Truck .

But this is one Cabover I Would like to have Myself & by looking @ it i may not have that hard of a time getting in & out of this truck say like a IH 4070 Transtar or 9670 IH .

But if i did have to learn a certain way for me to get in this truck i would learn how to maneuver my left leg just right getting in &out. & thats a fact . :thumb:

  5. I Cant speak for Tri State Mack in Memphis Now but back when Dad, Pop & Myself dealt with them they were pretty straight forward with us .

Pop & Dad had been dealing with them since 1968 when Dad had a Couple B Models including my namesake .

I Hadnt dealt with Tri State Far as buying parts or service dept since April 2005 when Pop passed .

I Have been down there since to pick up parts for buddies of mine that still deal with them .

Alot has changed down there. Alot of folks that i knew in the Memphis Office are gone & retired .

Matter fact Out my 5 days in the gym , i'm in the gym 3 days with one of Tri State Mack's Retired Salesmen

. He traveled quite a bit & has some good stories to tell . I Like sitting @ the table after a workout drinking coffee on those mornings listening to some of his stories .

I'm still trying to get him on here ..lol .

  6. Hope you Nail their balls to the wall & Make an example out of them !!

As many know here I was raised in the excavation business & on the farm . & made a decent living doing so till pop passed in 05'

When i was growing up i didnt have time to play around much as i was either on the job with my grandfather & great uncle , their buddies they sub contracted for & their crews or on the farm in a soybean or hay field or the pasture .

It made me a whole hell of lot better person than some of these hoodlum Thug Rat Kids now day .

I Can tell some stories about folks my age (as kids @ the time) One story : About 25 years ago Some kids That lived in subdivisions near clearing jobs Pop & his buddy he sub contracted for were doing . Kids Were Spoiled ass brats from the 1 of the Rich suburbs of Memphis,TN ( Collierville,TN) That Poured Sand down the 50 Gallon fuel tank of a Burner (Air Curtain Destructor/ACD) & Locked the engine smooth up . We actually got lucky as one of operators seen the kids who done it running away (After he cranked the engine& it started locking up ) .Also seen their Dad light their Asses up with a Elm tree Switch ...lol . Mom & Dad didnt like the fact the judge told them they had to pay for a brand New 353 Detroit to be installed on the burner . (yes this went to court) Meanwhile thank God Mr Bill had a 2nd ACD .

Also had 2 Dual Tires on a 1066 Black Stripe IH Farm tractor Stabbed along with the tires on a 8 Yard Reynolds dirt pan on a Lake job In Germantown TN (Another of the well to do suburbs of Memphis ) That was around 20 years ago .

We couldnt prove that one but think kids from a nearby subdivision done that one too .

I Bet Any Spoiled ass rich brats couldn't hang an hour in a Open Hay field Throwing Square Bales & make an honest days wage if their life depended on it .

  7. I Dont know myself i was wondering the same

I Have always been around & drove manuals in a class 6-8 truck .

I was told by the State of TN Recently If i want my B Class CDL Back after getting my health back in good shape I would be restricted to an Automatic due to the Mild Case of Cerebral Palsy in my left hand & leg , left side in general .

. it has been 8 years now if it was 5 or under i would just have to take the written test but now i gotta go through the whole thing again .

(i wasn't restricted before but now they told me no exceptions)

(i lost them in 07' Due to health reasons & couldnt pass the DOT Physical) But now i wont argue with them i just want my CDL Back so eventually i can get a Single Axle dump to go with the lawn service i'm starting next year . Plus an automatic will be easier on myself due to the left hand .

    :mack1:

  8. Nice Pics Randy . :) We used to do the same here in the back woods of Millington & T County . But if we were in Memphis tearing a house down it went stright to the dump because the Memphis /Shelby County Inspectors here would have a Ticket writing party .

That's a nice hole! Does the state give you much trouble about that? We've done that for years, but a couple of years ago the city owned landfill hired an illegal dump inspector to go around and make sure everybody in the city limits abides and brings debris to the landfill for $30/ton. If they catch us outside the city limits they call ADEQ (Arkansas Dept. of Environmental Quality) on us. It's a big racket, if you ask me. All they've accomplished is now there's a whole lot of burned out houses that the owners can't afford to demolish.

Sounds like Here Jake The good ole boy system . Is that Helena/West Helena (Phillips County) Your talking about bud ?

  9. I've put a few hours on a 1066 rolling rice levees on my uncle's farm in Brinkley. Good old tractor, for sure!

Yes Sir i had quite a bit of seat time on a 1066 IH . Matter fact when the muffler finally rusted out i took a extra exhaust stack we had for a D5B Cat & put it & a Rain Cap on the 1066 & Straight piped that DT 414 IH . It sure sounded good when it was in a hard pull loading a 8 yard Dirt pan . ;)

They Turned me loose w/ an 806 IH When i was around 8 years old Cutting Hay i could just reach the pedals ..lol. . Then a 1370 Case Disking a Soybean Field . I Like many that was raised around equipment could drive before i got my DL. :loldude:

I would had much rather been on a tractor in the field pretty much by myself than on a dozer dealing w/ a GC superintendenton the job that changes his mind every 5 minutes ...lol .

(Maybe that's why i liked loading trucks in a dirt pit Or driving & Cutting grass now ..i didn't have to deal with Supers day in & day out ...lol )

  10. That's awful. I moved a lot of dirt back in the day with a double barrel TS 14. Great machines. I guess they blew it up for fun right before they scrapped it. What a waste.

Yep i pushed a Few TS14B Terex Back in the day w/D8K Cat . Could hear those ole 471 Jimmies Screamin over the dozer Especially when they pulled the grade loaded.

I Could had kicked my old man in his arse for telling his buddy id operate the push Cat for him that Summer . I Was 17 & Actually begged the old man to let me Cut, Rake & Bale Hay with the 1066 IH Black Stripe w/ 4 post canopy we had not only for the Excavating Jobs but for the farm as well . Said i needed a change of Scenery . Needless to say i didnt win that argument ..lol .

  11. Based on my personal experience, I would encourage any kid to follow their heart first when choosing a career, whether it's a skilled trade, maybe business management, or even politics. Just work hard and be at the top of your game. Enjoying what you do for a living is a great feeling.

I will Support him in anything he wants to do . He sees me Cutting Grass & Hauling Recaps now . He sees i still cant get the Driving out my blood even on a Under CDL Truck ...lol

1 Things for sure he has a good work ethic already .As he asked me last year about this time how many yards did my friend have to cut . i told him . He would help us some during the summer . So last year he talks to the neighbors & is cutting both Neighbors Yards on each side of him. His Mom helps him w/ trimming hedges but he does most of the trimming & cutting .

Looks like he likes Doing Yard Work & also working in the garden w/o complaining . so thats a plus . Lord only knows which path he will take weather it is a Skilled trade , Business Management or Politics . It's still too early to tell but 1 things for sure i will have his back & support him in whatever he wants to do .

  12. I Said i'd never get a Facebook too & Now look . What made me get a FB Was my Family Scattered Across the Country .

Plus i have buddies who are like brothers to me & their kids think of me as Uncle Mack as i helped raise em . (& some of the girls i have to keep my guns cleaned for lol )

Then there is my buddies that i go back with from Kindergarten . Matter fact that's how 1 of them found me ...lol With 1 in particular We were tight for many many years till he moved to California . I Kept in touch with him till about 2000 then its like he fell off the face of the earth for a few years . then about 2006 he reappears , finds me on FB & Come to find out lives about an Hour East of Me. We talk just about everyday .

Then there is my Boy Who is 12. i dont talk about him much on Facebook for reasons i'd rather not go into . Yes i pay my dues & i do see him (but like i said i wont go into details ) I Have his Mom on my Facebook . We remain on good terms & talk about 2-3 times a week . It amazes her that My boy has got the Truck & Equipment Fever . i told her it didnt surprise me @ all as the Dirt just didnt get on the Hands in my Family but it got in the blood . Cause all we know is Farming, logging, excavating & trucking . It's like a fever ...lol. . He & His mom live South of Memphis in 1 of MS Suburbs of Memphis around some more Family of mine . So when i'm down that way I Kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone & Most of the time . & See all my family Weather i have to meet them somewhere in the Vicinity or am i going to their house . Depends on weather i'm on Personal time or not . But i make time to stop even if its nothing more than to eat lunch or dinner w/ them .

I Really wish he would go on to College or Vo tech School & learn another trade that's not so hard on the body . But i keep drilling into his head if he still wants to be around trucks , learn to Build Transmissions & Not take them in or out just build . He likes School (which he damn sure dont get from me cause id rather been in the field @ his age). So Maybe Just maybe he will go on to Votech or 4 year College to learn how to work without using his Back .

He likes Music & Learning To play the Guitar from my Youngest Brother . My Youngest brother went to the University of Memphis on a Scholarship from Bolton High School . Has a Degree in Music & Teaches Music now . So my Son's Mom told me that our Boy wanted to learn to play the Guitar so i told her id help pay for it & she mentioned my brother . i usually dont like dealing w/ family on issues like this but in this case i'll make an exception .

I Could go on about My Son but i have rambled on Enough .
