  1. I think they are still building Hinos in Woodstock Ontario Canada at the Toyota plant as well.

Knowing someone at a Hino dealer, it's extremely rare that a valve cover has ever been removed from one of their engines. Some of the engineering on the trucks seems strange, but very reliable trucks.  Lots of Hinos in the Penske and other rental fleets here.

I'd like to know his opinion of the anthem?  I saw somewhere mack took 3700 orders for it on day one. Can that be true ?

My salesman said more like over 6000 orders. Can't get a Mack out of the factory till end of January right now. Antham production starts at the same time.

Greetings fellow Lodge members, just need your opinion here.....

the air intake on my E9 gets in the way of everything, it lays on top of the 'V' from back of cab and splays out to lay on top of my radiator, PITA when trying to work...

so, my 89 MH E9-500 parts truck came with the back of the cab snorkel type air intake and the steel supports for a twin exhaust just like mine..... hmmmmm

I have been told by a reasonable source that the ram air effect from the snorkel is better than the 'slot' over the radiator.

now, this is for a restored truck, not for show, not for more power, not to look "Aussie".... but when I look through my collection of MH photos and factory brochures there are very few trucks with the snorkel... why was that???

assuming I go ahead with the mod.... the intake cyclonic or swirl inducing housing (and I know one of you will tell me the official name for it) has what looks like a decal on it, looks like a sideways letter "T", was that factory and what did it say??... also, I know it to be black, but gloss or semi-gloss??

    thanks for the help

As a fellow Canuck.....this was actually something that was also regularly installed at the dealer/branch side after delivery due to a lot of complaints with customers in MH E9 powered units that ran across the prairies in Canada. With a side wind customers felt the engine was not getting enough air into the under cab intake. Complaints were of both lack of power and black smoke. A good number of MH E9 powered units out of Toronto that hauled out west had this snorkel intake installed by the branch after delivery. It helped a bit, but not a lot. The under cab intake was thought to be too far under the cab in a side wind to suck a proper volume under load in. Doesn't mean it was the answer, but lots were installed as requested.

It's just me but I'd rather spend 20 hrs a day in an r model or Superliner than 5 hrs in anything new out there.

I've got the choice of both. That's why I mix it up. Sometimes I like the quieter smoother trip I get from our newer dogs, sometimes I'm not. Depends on my mood and how long the woman can last in the smaller spaces. Lol.  She enjoys both as well.

I watched the reveal myself and I thought "huh, just a vision with a bad facelift". All of this hype for this? But when I had seen this picture and thought that's not really bad.  I hate the hood mirrors and the grill was a little off putting at first and the headlights are not really doing it for me but the more I look at it, it grows on me.  I think its just something new we are not use to. Mack is not going to make the R models or Superliners, or B Models any more. That's a fact. They went for a new more modern look to set themselves apart from the rest of the over the road trucks. Its a bit harder and tougher looking than the rest of the Areo trucks out there. It may just get them some extra sales... or not. I'm withholding final decision until I see one in person.

Agreed....we just wanted a better sleeper environment for our guys living in the trucks weekly. I get to drive around in a bunked out Superdog. I get It, its an attention getter but 13 hrs in a small cab gets to you after a bit and after years of doing it. I enjoy a run in one of our Pinnacles and my poor wife whacks her head on the cab roof exiting the bunk almost every time...lol.  For the record I loath taking the Volvo out.

When Mack sold the "MS" model later versions offered a four door option called the "Team Manager". It was marketed to utility companies and emergency services. Shortly thereafter, the "MS" model was discontinued. Perhaps Mack is going to offer a four door "LRU" to the utilities. In order to be a fire chassis the "LRU" would have to meet stringent NFPA requirements regarding fire chassis that are not found on commercial trucks, such as dual ignitions, rollover protection, etc. I doubt that Volvo and Mack would want to invest that much into a chassis that would sell in limited numbers. When the "MS" was sold, Mack offered a fire chassis version of the "R", "MC", and "MS" chassis. I know of one "Team Manager" in the fire service, a 1999 "MS"/KME in Washington, NH.

The team manager was a bit of a flop. The truck wasn't robust enough for what most fire units of the day required.  The City of Toronto ordered 2 team managers that they never put into service. After the pdi and delivery to the city the trucks were found to be underpowered and had issues with handling and stopping once fully equipped. Even the factory plastic air lines in the chassis needed to be changed to braided at the dealer level as per Toronto spec. The 2 of them were sold and shipped to a Caribbean island. Too small for full size needs here in Toronto.

This LRU has potential and a better back bone to build on. Not even comparable to the up to 36k lb gvw available on a Midliner chassis.

I'll get some pics up soon. The salvage title is because it was an abandoned vehicle and was towed away and impounded. The owner was notified and didn't want to pay the tow bill and storage so we filed for a new title through the state. They won't give you a clean title for it without DOT inspection, I don't want to put the time and money into making it legal because DOT are assholes around here and probably wouldn't pass it no matter what just because of its age. It's not a bad truck at all, definitely a candidate for restoration in my opinion.

Post some pictures. I'm sure you will get some guys private messaging making you offers after that.  You can decide from there.

  8.

They only made 64 of them. What would you estimate it would be worth in running condition, but needing some work. Also has a salvage title.

That's a tough one...would have to see some pictures and dig into why it's branded salvage. There are lots of guys on here that would restore that truck if it's a worthy candidate for show.  Can't let that one get wrecked.

  9. A Mack sales friend of mine had an issue years ago with regards to a deal for multiple heavy tractors going into a fleet he sells to annually. The customer needed 16k front axles on the over 10 tractor deal but could supply the needed heavy front axle for the customer woth the Pinnacle platform. He had to spec Granite tractors with the 16k front axle to be compliant to the customers specs.

He ended up losing the deal to Western star who could supply the 16k front axle in a well priced pack of units.

Would you believe the Granite tractor spec cost more the a similar spec Western star.  The Pinnacle with a 14k front was in the proper price range. As soon as the spec had to be turned to Granite he lost the deal due to pricing against Western Star last year.

I believe you can now get a 16k front on a pinnacle.  Good timing
