I was thinking the same thing. It was definitely to the gauge, but I don’t think this is the correct spot, though I’m not entirely sure it’s a return line, just a guess. It’s got plenty of pressure at it that’s for sure. I don’t see where the oil would be feeding into the turbo other than that line, so maybe a feed?
-
Went to the oil pressure gauge it looks like. Removing the line off big red now.

Hi guys. Well, she’s alive!!! We fired her up just now and went without much fuss. Only thing I have an issue with is I have oil coming out of a tee’d off fitting coming out of the turbo. Looks like the return line to me since the line goes down into the top of the oil pan. Anyone know what this fitting should be hooked up to?

Quick update. Fuel lines are all sorted out. Air intake is on. Have to paint up the air cleaner from big red to go on the green machine but the tube and intake tube on turbo is all on, so I can at least start it. Have to wire up the starter, pull the studs out of the PTO and put the plate from the other transmission on the PTO hile, fill it and then I should be able to start it once I get fuel going back into the pump. Will need a little bleeding since I had to remove all the fuel lines. I’m also going to grab a 21 SI si for wire alternator and get rid of the genny/voltage regulator too. Will have to sort out belt size, but that should be ok. Going to remove the Bendix governor from big red and replace the one on the green machine. Then it’s glass installation time. I’ll drive it around the port a bunch to shake it down then I’ll get it home and get all the wiring done. Will make sure the oil, water and air gauge work before I drive it too. Need to pull the driver seat from red and put in green once I get the floor bolted back in and get the mats cleaned and reinstalled. Still smells like cat piss, so really gotta clean them well. Have to bolt door handles on also. I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff l but you get the gist of it. Getting closer. Hope you guys are doing well.

I have a service manual at home, will look though it when I get a chance. Not sure why I didn’t think of that, d’oh!

Yes there is. I have the right routing to and from the filter but just making sure everything else is right

So, it appears I have some fuel lines that aren’t right with the switch between the two trucks. If I understand right, the fuel line coming out of the spin on filter should go directly into one of the fittings at the bottom of the lift pump. First pic with my hand in it shows the engine thats in the truck.Second pic shows the old engine on the ground. The line I have in my hand is coming from the “out” side of the spin on. I’d imagine I need to plug it in to the forward fitting? This pic shows the canister (secondary filter?) filter. Looks like the line coming from the top goes to this point on the injection pump. Where should everything be routed to? Thanks for everyone’s help.
-
Ah, nice. That was definitely a question. Thanks!

I’ve got two fuel filters on this engine. One canister type right above the injection pump and a spin on filter on the drivers side. The spin on can be seen in the pic. I do know where one line off of the spin on was plumbed, to the drivers tank on top of the tank, I took the line off the old truck and am letting the elbow fitting soak. Would there be a pickup tube on that elbow fitting on top of the tank if that’s for intake? I’m very thankful for all you guys and the help you’ve all given me along the way with this project. Can’t wait to drive this thing!

This is an online bar room. We’re all here just having a good time. Some of us youngins’ get to learn something from the old timers too haha. Got some more done today. Radiator is in. Got all the air lines hooked up except one off of the governor. Think I’m gonna take the governor out of the red one and put it in the green one. Need to switch air cleaners too, as the red one has the turbo and green one didn’t, so they’re a bit different. The red ones air cleaner has a b-81 type with the air coming in from the top, just not the long stack. The green one gets the air from behind the canister, where the cab vent is on the red one. Still need to figure out how to plumb the fuel filter. Not really sure how it was plumbed on the red one and I didn’t take pics of it before I ripped everything out.

The good motor is in the truck now but the old one with the burnt piston is still sitting on the ground as seen in the pic. Maybe it’s time to make it a little more stable.

Got some work done today. Got the shifters back in the trans. Got the clutch linkage back on and clutch working. Some fuel lines and air lines hooked up. A few more lines to hook up and we can get the radiator back in and plumbed. Made a little progress. The brakes are caged, so might mess with those next time too. I’ll pressurize the system and see if there are any leaks maybe.

yep, he had the right idea with the heal bars for the injector removal. They came right out. Hope to have it running in a couple weeks. It ran great when I pulled it out of the other one.
-
Yep, engine mounts match right up to the old ones. Same engine just has a turbo on it compared to the old 673 that was in it.

So, there’s two “ears” at the front lower part of the block on each side that have 3 whiles each. I should’ve gotten a pic from the motor that’s out, but I figure we’re gonna make plates and attach to there for the front lifting. Will along the rear like we did last time. Can see the bolt that holds the fuel line bracket on. There’s two more hole one either side of it just below it. Added a better pic

I figure I can use the luberfiner plate on the drivers side. Gotta figure out a good spot in passenger side
-
I’m tempted to use the manifolds to lift by. Someone talk me out of it. Or not.
-
Wish they put “eyes” on these motors from the factory to hook chains to. Would make it a hell of a lot easier to pull those things. We fabbed up some plate steal to bolt to the heads to pull the one out of the green one, but all the manifolds were off of it so it was easy. I don’t really want to take the manifolds off of the running one if I can help it.
-
Quick update. Engine and transmission pulled in the green machine. Gonna pull the drivetrain on big red and throw it in the green machine.
-
Oh nice. I’ll have to see what I’m up against once I get it all apart and ready to pull. Will probably use the 8k extended forklift I have at work to pull it I think. I haven’t worked on it in a couple weeks, need to get some time on it. Would love to have the body off of the green one before the new year
-
Yeah, tough time of year to get motivated to go outside and work on cold iron
-
Nice. I’m gonna have to fab something up I guess. I saw this pic online. I like the idea of the pipe for a spreader. Not sure I like how all the weight is on the exhaust manifold. The oil filter housing bracket looks like it works well enough for the drivers side

ENDT 673 Liner has pitting, I don't know how???
Craig N replied to Joey Mack's topic in Engine and Transmission
Ever find out what caused the pitting? -
One thing I’m noticing on these 673’s is a lack of “eyes” to hook up a chain/spreader bar to pull them. Most newer motors I’ve seen have plates bolted to them with eyes on them to fasten chains. Gonna have to get creative I guess
