  1. how did you use the studs to help jack out? The injector studs or head studs?
  2. Air hammer is coming out tomorrow!! I’ll vibrate and pry at the same time and do some wishing and hoping at the same time haha. I was really wondering if I should pull them apart after I have them out, not while in. Just thinking I should clean them up, but not sure what to do really
  3. I’m gonna go ahead and pry more tomorrow, maybe put the air hammer on the side of the injector while I pry. Hope to get them off without having to pull the valve covers or take any head bolt nuts off. If I have to I’ll double nut the studs and try to pull them out, but won’t unless I have to.
  4. Anyone think I should take apart the injectors? I can get that big nut off the top then it looks like a flat for an open end wrench in there with a set screw of some sort at the top. Is it worth it? Should I fiddle with them or leave them be?
  5. Oh that’s good!! I can get the heels in there, I’ll just put some extra leverage on them. Only 2 left, I’ll get ‘em. The ears are super thick, and old steel is good steel, so I’ll give it hell. I do, but I don’t know if there’s any room to get it in there and I don’t know how much I’d get it to move while it’s sitting on the studs. I’ll keep at it!
  6. Yeah, I can go easy with it and see. I can’t believe how stuck they are. The others all came out with very little persuasion, but I’ve been prying these with all my might
  7. I was wondering about heat. Might have to try. I’m worried about ruining the valve cover gasket but I can probably repair with some RTV if I had to take off the valve cover. Thanks for the help!
  8. So, do you think there’s any chance of breaking the ears off using the heel bars? I can get some leverage on them if I add some wrenches too. I’m using 18” (give or take) heel bars so could probably double the leverage. The others came out with minimal effort with the bars (one 12” even) but these last two are real stubborn. I’m trying to avoid taking the air intake and coolant manifold off to even think about getting a hammer and punch in there. These injectors are sitting on studs so not sure how much I could really get them to move with a hammer and punch anyway, but it might be just enough to break them loose. I was reading another thread about oil filters that you helped on about 10 years ago. Thanks a lot for helping spread the knowledge around. A hobbyist like me really appreciates the help from guys like you who don’t mind helping.
  9. Well, I’ve got 4 out of the 6 injectors out and they came out relatively easy with the heel bars. There are two (2&6) that are being super stubborn. I’ve been fighting with them for a bit now and can’t get them to budge at all. I’m gonna wrestle with them more today and I’ll spray them down once again before I leave tonight and fight with them again tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice on here.
  10. Oh wow. I’d jump all over that thing. Know anyone in your area that would be interested in hauling it up here? If the price was right for the haul I’d take it for sure. I’d drive down there to make the deal obviously. I’m actually flying to Virginia at the end of the month or beginning of December to drive a pickup truck back up here and have to stop in Allentown so could detour to you.
  11. Yeah, I’ll wedge something under the ears and get them out. Hoping the heel bars I have will work
  12. I’m gonna have at it with the heel bars tomorrow. I bet they’ll come out with some work. I haven’t taken anything else off the motor besides the fuel return and feed lines to the injectors. If the water manifold was off it would sure be easier but I’ll try and fiddle them out with everything in place still
  13. Engine is stuck, that’s why I’m pulling the injectors. Hoping to free it up with a nice mystery oil soaking and some persuasion with the wheels off the ground
  14. Yeah, I had a feeling I’d wreck the threads in no time doing it that way. I’ve got heel bars, I’ll get under the ears and work them out that way I guess. Thanks for the help!
  15. Hi all. I just picked up a nice b42 but the motor is stuck from sitting about 6 years. Supposedly ran fine when it was parked. I’m going to pull the injectors on the 673 and put some mystery oil/on blaster in the cylinders and let it sit about a week. Then I’ll jack it up, put it in high gear and rock the wheels back and forth to try and free it. So, my question is, can I make a slide hammer out of a long 3/8x24 bolt and thread it in to where the banjo bolt holds the return lines on top of the injector and use that to get the injectors out? Is that too much on the threads maybe? There looks to be about a half inch of threads in the top of the injector for the bolt to grab to. I don’t wanna wreck the injectors. Might try to find a puller that will go under the ears but figured I’d ask here first. Thanks for a great forum filled with tons of great info, everyone.
  16. Oh man, I wish you were closer. I really like that truck and would love to have it. Would probably cost too much to haul to Massachusetts I bet though. What would you want for it? It runs?
  17. I think the body is original and just had the driveline changed. The vin stamped in the frame is for a b42 and matches the number on the inside door plate, so I’m assuming someone just switched everything somewhere along the way. It has maxi brakes on it and I found the release on the dash once I got it back to the shop. It’s missing the yellow knob so I missed it at first. Got the feed and returns off of the injectors so I can pull them and get some mystery oil and blaster in the cylinders to help break it free. Gotta get the injectors out though as they’re stuck in pretty good. I’ll work on getting them out tomorrow.
  18. Hi all. As the title says, will it fit and will it work? Not going to tow anything with it, just bobtail around. Thanks!
  19. Here’s a question for you guys. So, I see the driveshaft parking brake hub on this truck, but I don’t see the hand lever on the floor anywhere. How else would that be actuated? That’s not air operated at all is it? I didn’t look long at it and was kind of an after thought. I can’t wait to get it home to crawl all around it. The brake drums are frozen to the shoes so I was thinking about the brakes and realized I never saw the handle anywhere. First thing I do when I get it home is get the drums free.
  20. Oh good news!! How were you able to tell the difference?
  21. Oh that’s awesome! I’d appreciate you finding out. No rush, though. I won’t get to start working on it for at least a week, so I’ll know better then. Thanks!
  22. Thanks, Onyx. Too bad that 350 I have is too big! Ah well. Hopefully I can get the 673 unstuck
