  1. Lol, I’m not feeling too positive about this motor right now
  2. Think it’ll be ok to clean up and try running? Is mouse piss that strong? I can clean up the cylinder good enough but the piston looks like it got hit with a hammer. I don’t see any cracks near the liners up top
  3. What the hell is that on the piston? Looks like shavings almost. Wasn’t too coarse when I touched it. Looks like the mice chewed the top of the piston. Gah. Frustrated.
  4. Well, got the front head off. Cylinder 3 is ugly. Real ugly. Piston is rotten? I’m trying to upload a pic of what it looked like before I vacuumed it off
  5. Oh man, I haven’t seen anything with DEF run better than the old stuff. We’ve got a loader at work that just failed yesterday in the middle of a cargo ship cleaning out the bottom of one of the holds. What went? The DEF fluid pump. What went last time it failed in the middle of a hold cleanout? The DEF sensor in the bottom of the tank. These ships are so expensive to unload and a hiccup like this costs 10’s of thousands of dollars. Cranes, loader rentals, fixing the broken loader, demurrage for the ship sitting idle etc. Such a hassle. Yet all of our old iron is getting shipped over seas. It’s maddening. I see so many nice old r models and old cat excavators/loaders sitting in the port waiting to get loaded on the next car ship that gets sent to South America. Sad.
  6. What would be the proper lube to use for the studs?
  7. I wouldn’t mind freshening it up a bit. A good hone and new pistons, rings, wrist pins and bearings wouldn’t be the worst I guess. I’ll do what it takes to get it running, for the most part. Realllllllly hoping it doesn’t need sleeves though. That might be where I draw the line, but I’m not there yet, there’s still hope haha. Yeah, this is just a toy, it won’t be pulling anything heavy, if anything at all. And if it does, it won’t be for long at least. I wouldn’t mind getting a tag along for my old Massey Ferguson backhoe, but it’s not really necessary and probably won’t happen anyway.
  8. Believe me, I appreciate your support!! There’s not a ton of us who are into these old trucks. I’m fortunate that I’ve connected with a group of guys who are willing to help and spread their experiences and knowledge!!
  9. With luck I’ll have time tomorrow to pull the heads. I’m anxious to see what’s under there!!
  10. Yeah, all of what you said is true. I’m really hoping the liners and pistons don’t look too bad when I get the heads off of my motor. Would be nice to just break it free and put it back together
  11. Keeping the filter then I guess. Do you have a part number for the canister by any chance?
  12. This one’s a non turbo. I can still get the canister for the luberfiner as far as I know, so I can just put it back on. I like the way that big ole can looks hanging off the side there anyhow
  13. Can this get changed out to a spin on set up? From what I read I don’t think it can but I figured I’d ask the folks who know
  14. Anyone knowing if I can change this Luberfiner canister set up to a spin on? Just one line out the bottom, so no bypass I think? If I read it right, think I read you can’t do it because of the no bypass.
  15. I do too. It seems like a really good deal for a complete truck, even if just for the driveline. Best part is, it runs and has everything I need to make it work in mine. Just a pain in the ass to get it to me at 9 hours away. I’m gonna wait until I get the heads off this week and really get a good look at the inside before I make any decisions. Really hoping I can get this one going as it’ll be less work and money, but we’ll see I guess
  16. My eyes are are up here, jojo hahahaha. Couldn’t help myself
  17. Got some stuff done today, but didn’t get the heads off. Can’t work on it tomorrow after work but hopefully can on Wednesday. Can see the mice made their way into the exhaust ports as well, little bastards.
  18. What’s the baby quad? 5+4? I have a duplex in mine. Honestly, I wanted a triplex or quad, I really enjoyed shifting gears when I drove the old b81 my old boss had years ago. I mean, who doesn’t love shifting gears?!
  19. I’m really hoping that the liners are in nice enough shape along with the rings. This is just a toy and I don’t really want to rebuild the motor. I’m going to see what I have when I get the heads off and go from there I guess. I would probably go for 67R models Mack listed above before I rebuilt the 673 I have. A running 237 would sure be nice. That seems like a good deal as long as I can get it here cheap enough. A running truck to pull the motor out of is is a big plus for sure too. I’d probably just swap the whole drive train at that point. It would be easier to pull the cab and nose off and do it all at once I imagine. Here’s to hoping that the engine I have is clean enough to re-gasket and put back together.
  20. Awesome, I’ll be sure to call and order if I do end up rebuilding. Hoping to know what the inside of the combustion chambers look like today.
  21. Good news. I hope I don’t have to do it though. I’ll drop that little section in the middle and clean it out for sure though.
  22. Well would you look at that! I didn’t realize they had all this for these still. I hope I don’t have to get into sleeving this motor, but if I have to, good to know they still make parts. Do you know if there’s room to drop the oil pan with the motor still in? I’ll get under there tomorrow to look. There’s a good machine shop close that could do the crank if need be. Man, I really hope not. I’m really hoping for a nice clean up and breaking it free without busting anything. Would be nice if all I needed was a gasket kit!!
  23. How’s he use the thread to hold them on? Man, I wish I would’ve paid more attention to some of the stuff my grandparents were doing when I was a kid.
  24. I would really like to avoid that if possible lol. We’ll see I guess.
  25. All the washers appear to be good and stuck to them. I’ll double check though
