  1. Is this just an old maxi can but could still be S cam?
  2. Good to know. Just leaf springs really like a pickup truck.
  3. This is good to know. It seems ok but I only drove it around the pit for a bit. I’ll have to drive it around a bit when I get it back to work. I guess I’m not really sure I even have wedge brakes. They just looked different than anything I’ve seen so made an assumption. I’ll have to see when I get it I guess
  4. Oh that’s sweet!! I’ll really have to check it all out when I get it home. Has a big ass air tank on the driver side for it.
  5. I’m supposed to go pick it up Friday or Saturday so I’ll get a bunch of pics for sure. I guess I don’t really know if it has wedge brakes. I just saw these tiny little cans underneath and just made an assumption. I’ll get the body up and get some good pics
  6. Well, shows you what I know lol. I just saw big springs on the green one and thought camel back. I’ll get a good pic of it tomorrow at work. The rear on the green has “Mack” cast into the pumpkin on the back. This is the only pic I have of it right now
  7. Oh that’s good to know! No, they’re different style. The single axle looks like a more modern setup, I believe with camelback suspension. The dual axle has the rear ends that look like they’re flipped on their side, if that makes sense?
  8. I was surprised at how well the air assist steering felt too. Sure is a big difference from Armstrong steering. Felt like modern truck steering
  9. She worked a pit for the wash plant quite a bit I guess. I’m tempted to put my body on it and paint the dump box. Has wedge brakes though and my single axle has maxi’s so not sure what to do yet.
  10. Uh, thanks, I think lol. I got it for the same money I can buy a piston kit with liners and bearings for. Hope it works out
  11. Gonna try and remove the second head tomorrow and see what’s going on in there
  12. Hopefully have the donor truck Saturday. Really nice running ENDT 673. Air start, air assist steering. Runs and drives real nice. Duplex transmission. Dump body works well. Frame is nice. Stops really well. I might just put the nice body I have on this chassis. Not sure what I’m doing yet, but the price was right and it runs great. I have a video but not sure I can load it on here
  13. So, the two cylinders that let the oil by, they look real good. Top of piston too. Anyone think the rings are stuck in the piston grooves to have the oil leak by like that? I’m probably gonna tear this whole motor down. May not get rebuilt, but we’ll see
  14. Thanks for all the help on here!! I’ll keep updating as I make progress. Hopefully have some pics of a new to me truck tomorrow. I hope it’s what I’m looking for
  15. Well, I’ve let mystery oil sit in the cylinders (still only have the front head off) for about a week now and the oil has gone by the first two but still sitting on the #3 piston that looks like it got heated up. Will get the rear head off next week with any luck and do the same on those. The cylinder wall doesn’t look too bad either. Might be able to make this one work with rings. That said, I’m going to look at a donor truck on Monday that’s local to me. Runs great supposedly. Has an air start and is an ENDT. Do the turbos make much difference in HP? It’s a 10 wheel dump truck which gets used regularly for the guys stone wash plant. Has a quad box too which I really want over the duplex. Body is rough, but that’s fine since the body I have is nice. Gotta see how it is. It’s the right price too and I have a guy who will haul it locally.
  16. Having trouble finding someone to haul the donor truck at the moment, so might be looking to rebuild the 673 or put a 237/285 in. All options open still
  17. Not a bad idea. I’ve had gas motors apart and back together before, and I could probably do this one too with help from you guys. In the end I think it’ll be more expensive and to not have a warranty on my inexperienced work may not be the best idea. If I get a donor, I can make one really nice truck out of two and sell some stuff off to recoup some of the losses maybe
  18. Nah, I’m just a wrench spinner. I’ve been working on my own motorcycles, cars, pickup trucks, Jeeps, boats, backhoes etc., etc. for about 33 years, but I’m no mechanic haha. I did just get my 1966 Mack END 673/711 service manual in the mail yesterday though!! I’m excited about that for sure!! I’ve learned hat all these projects I get myself into all take way longer than expected, usually more money too, but it always feels good when you get it right in the end when you can say you did it yourself with some help along the way from the folks who really know what they’re doing haha. Man, those rodents can really do a number on things!! Victor to the rescue!!
  19. I guy who comes in to the garage is a diesel mechanic so I showed him the piston. He said he thought that it looked like it got too hot, that maybe it took on too much fuel. He didn’t seem to think mouse piss could do that to a piston. I know if I were to rebuild this engine properly, it would cost me more than a donor truck and that there’s still the chance that it’ll fail if I don’t put it together right either, as I’m not a diesel mechanic. I’m leaning toward a donor truck right now
  20. Yeah, it’s been off sometime in its life I think. I’m debating on whether or not to disassemble the whole motor and go through it or just buy a donor truck with a running motor and be able to sell some of the parts that I have left over when done
  21. Hope fully I can get her free without breaking any rings!
  22. I’m gonna get the rear head off and see what it looks like in there I guess. Then I’ll start with the whack a mole while I’ve got someone putting pressure on the crankshaft. Got some cleaning to do for sure. I did a little research and I guess dog piss can cause aluminum to rot out, so my thinking is the mouse piss will do the same. Hope the rear cylinders don’t have this going on lol
  23. Really hoping someone on here says something like “yeah, that’ll clean right up” or “it’s ok if piston 3 looks like it’s been hit with a hammer multiple times, that won’t affect much” or “If you can get it unstuck, just re-gasket and run it, it’ll be fine, I’ve seen a ton of these do the same exact thing”
