  2. By the way, Nizen machine does the engine work for Matt Pfahl, and is a very nice guy. There is a carburetor shop I used in Norwood MA called universal auto that rebuilt my carburetor in 2 weeks for $150 bucks. Never even flinched at it, said it is a very common one. Mack was specific on the engine parts, but the carbs had different applications. By the way, what motor do you have in that? The EN 401 is the same as my motor more or less just with a different bore.
  3. I just rebuilt an EN377 for an A40, yours is very doable. First start looking Ebay there is a lot of NOS parts for it. I used a guy out of New Haven named Pete Nizen from Nizen machine, he found me .020 rings, .020 rods, and .010 mains. He also did a valve job for me on it. I would be lying if I said it was cheap, the rings are made out of a special steel called unobtanium. The head gasket kit is readily available on Ebay. It can be done.
  4. Good luck to both of you on the new toys. On the stuck motor, you might have as good luck pulling the manifold, the valves can stick as hard as the pistons and you will not get a lot of oil down there. If you end up going deep into the motor it gets quite pricey, but they are such neat trucks they are worth it. There are a couple of resources on the east coast that would be helpful, if you want. Matt Pfahl has done a few of them and is a wealth of information. I would love to get some pictures of the floor on one. Mine is all but missing. PM me if you want.
  5. So I acquired an EN377 and a five speed transmission for my A40. I already have a 10 speed out ot the original truck which I plan on reusing. In the rod going back for the parking brake linkage there looks to be a weld which did not surprise me, But I look at the 5 speed that I have and there is some sort of a valve with air lines which have been cut as the drivetrain was a cutout. The only guess I have is did they have a valve so when you pulled back on the e brake it applied the service brake as well as the driveshaft brake? I think pictures will help so here goes.   7. I have a very good hood but no running boards. I am going to spend some time with a tape measure tomorrow. The fenders also very good shape. Some very minor rust down where they attach to the running boards, but that is all. I will send some pics when I get them too. I am curious if the difference is in width of the wheel well, or length of the opening. I will learn as we go.
  8. That not good. I am learning things the expensive way. I have fenders and hood that might be for a 30, and I need fenders and hood for a 40. I will have to try and match them up. BTW I am in Sharon MA and have seen your ad, nice project if I did not have one already.
  9. Are the 30 and 40 fenders different? I thought the sheet metal was the same, but the power plant and brakes were different.

  11. I have heard the A used a smaller version of the transmissions and the 237 requires a change to the full size. I like my little duplex and really want to keep it in there. I found an E series on Ebay one time with a White flathead motor in it. He had made a driver for himself and his wife. Had aluminum buds, aluminum air tanks, and even had jammed air conditioning in it. He sent me some pictures of it. It was a spectacular job making a truck to enjoy.
  12. What about the Cummins 6BT in there? A little modernization for reliability is certainly feasible. Those motors are cheaper than a lot of the original macks! Anything that makes your old ride driveable to enjoy is awesome. They do no good sitting out back rotting.
  13. Some chrome nuts on that old flathead, straight exhaust. It would be different.

  15. I am trying to figure out if the 401 is interchangeable with the 377. My fingers crossed maybe they used the same block and changed the bore or stroke a little. Have to call the Mack museum or something. Besides, there are a lot more of the B model gassers than the A models. Also starting to think about the Cummins 6bt. Would rather stay original, but want to drive the old girl.
  16. Hope at least it gets used, not sit there. That is where I went wrong, too long sitting because of too many projects. The nose I have for my A40 was going to be a wall hanging in a shop. 2 good fenders and a hood.
  17. He sold it Friday night. Really nice fellow, probably would help load too. lol. It is going on a pick up chassis for a guy doing a project with his kid. I will keep looking. For a double whammy I found out my engine is junk too. Big crack below the lifters, unrepairable. So now all I need is an engine and a cab. En377 or I think the 401 will fit too. Oh well.   18. May I ask where it is? If you do not want it, I am presently restoring an A model with a very poor cab. First come first serve, but I would jump if you do not want it. Thank you.
  19. I agree with all of you that it looks good, hence my interest in the cab. This I making me want to explore other options and I hate to back out of a deal after a handshake. The truck is in MA and it was her late husbands project. There is also an A30 that is in tougher shape, sadly not as bad as my cab, that comes with it. I had the 2 trucks for 2 grand and hoped to use a handful of A parts and the EE cab. I am glad for all the help. Like I said, trying not to do too much that will bite me later. If anyone is interested in the trucks PM me, It is the least I can do to help find them a good home. It just does not seem like it will work to put an EE cab on an A40. Thank you everyone. And if anyone knows where there is a decent A40 cab, please let me know.
  20. That is great to know. I will have to do some more research. The truck I am looking at is an EE. I think I can attach a pic, is this the long or the short cowl?
  21. That is a little more concerning. My buddy is a master with sheet metal and I am hoping I can talk him into helping. Perhaps we could hybrid the cabs together. My truck is basically missing everything from the floor up about 6 inches. Just way over my head to make this, and way too much to ask anyone to help with. What exactly is the belt rail you are referring to?
  22. Thank you. Those are awesome answers and really help. I am really enjoying the project and am trying not to do too much that could bite me later. I have to get in the habit of taking pics and posting them. Everyone seems to enjoy them.
